I think Planet Terror is what everyone thinks Grindhouse was, where Death Proof is what Grindhouse actually was.
Totally agree, I think that’s why most people didn’t like Death Proof. They were expecting it to be more like Planet Terror.
@@HyperionStars Right. If you watch old Grindhouse movies they were mostly filmed in one or two locations with a couple of big action scenes because that was all they could afford. Which is what Deathproof was.
Death proof is the better film its in my top five
I’ve seen both but I loved planet terror for the crazy factor and story as well , it all passes smoothly as well
Death Proof. It has a buildup throughout the movie and can drag, but damn if it doesn't have on of the best payoffs ever. Also Kurt Russell is great in it
Planet Terror is like a 2 hour comedy trailer.
Death Proof is an actual film that you can re-watch over and over.
Death Proof is garbage. Can't watch it for more than 2 seconds !
@@comrade3186 Pretty harsh.
@@immortannojoe9523 it is horrible
Death Proof wishes it was good, Tarantino’s worst & only bad movie
@@IdiocyShow did ur vagina tell u to say that????
I love both movies so much. don't make me choose! can't wait for Mr Wright to make "Don't" ;)
I am a guy who prefers Planet Terror, *BUT* ... between the two, Death Proof is objectively the one that feels the most like an authentic low budget grindhouse film: usually those had little money that could be spent on a couple of neat stunts or explosions, and thus the rest is mostly just characters sitting back, talking and shooting the shit.
Planet Terror's pacing is more conventional and modernized and like Edgar said, it delivers what the poster promises.
Being more authentic to a low budget '70s film is Death Proof's biggest strength... but also its biggest weakness depending from person to person, which is why I think it's so polarizing.
The BBC review imo said it the best: "There's plenty of fun to be had with Death Proof, but its imitation of a defunct, low-budget style of movie-making is perhaps too accurate when it comes to the genre's flaws."
I feel that answer: I believe that Planet Terror completed the “homework assignment” of making a true to form Grindhouse film, with just as much spectacle as advertised, while DeathProof totally works on its own, but also happens to fit the mold of a Grindhouse film.
One of the only times when Rodriguez edged out Tarantino...
even when by a brink!
Its Planet Terror
I definitely prefer "Planet Terror" to "Death Proof". The talking scenes in "Death Proof" just dragged on way too long for me.
Idiots will choose Planet Terror , smart ppl will choose Death Proof😂
First
I'm a massive Tarantino fan but not too huge on Rodriguez, but for me, Planet Terror is pretty damn good whereas Death Proof is one of the dullest, most obnoxious movies I've ever seen. It felt as if Tarantino intentionally wrote the most boring film ever, where about 2 plot points happen the entire 2 hours, just to say: "Fuck you, I'm Quentin Tarantino - anything I make, you'll bow down to me for and tell me what a genius I am". I'm very glad his other films are way better.
how is it boring? I just watched it first time and Death Proof was marginally better for me. L take
@@xxx_donvanvliet_xxx Exactly!
this guy is a director and has no clue what a grindhouse movie is.
