He is definitely a great actor. But there is nothing to be proud of his English. It's just another language. He didn't know Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian and many more language. I am a great fan of his acting. His Feluda portrayal, his theatre excellence was really great.
I love Soumitra Chatterjee I respect Soumitra Chatterjee For me it is an interview This leads me to know Satyajit Ray His glittering personality His directing activities At the sametime Soumitras capacity to explore the world famous director
@@viruda21 I will not make any generalizations. I can only say that Bengali art cinema had a different origin therefore the kind of actors it attracted was of a higher intellect. Since you mention Salil Chowdhary, he was the only music director in Bombay Film industry who could read & write the western musical notation. He also did all the orchestration for his songs himself.
Command over English is not the only benchmark of a well read or articulated person. Command over any language is. Fascination towards English is a colonial legacy which, we, Indians , find very difficult to let go.
What a good-looking, eloquent and brilliant man Soumitra was...an absolutely legend. It's wonderful hearing these thespians speak about their craft and experiences. Great interview indeed! 👏
Wow what a treat! It's great to get insights about Satyajit Ray's style of directing actors from an actor who worked so closely with Satyajit Ray. Like most actors, Soumitra Chaterjee too totally believed in Satyajit Ray's cause and let hime be moulded by the great director! Looking forward to more such rare clips on Satyajit Ray. Thank you.
Satyajit Roy 's classic movies !!!! Best part of these movies ..great artist. .personality S S sir express it very very clean and clearly. .Cinema 's pride with power. ..Cinema 's pride with beauty. ..wooow golden times that was !!!!!!!

This goes to show that in order to be a regional actor one need not shun English. You can be equally good in more than one language, something that the Facebook "antels" don't understand and will accuse you of colonial hangover.
In 1998 while I was on my way to Vivek Ananda's house from central Kolkata Taltala walking, I met mobbed Mr.Soumitra at a temple...he caught my hand since I stepped into it in my slippers accidentally...proof(punk rock vest)/some English movie, elderly actor, collin glass-clear(alcohol) liquid, "hey boy what do you think you are doing here, don't you know that this is a holy place?"; BENGALI.😂😂
RIP My Hero. India has lost one of the most iconic and versatile actors of all time. Sad our government never gave the credit he deserved.
Why, didn't he get Dadasaheb Phalke ?

The bengali actors of yesteryears are so conversant in both Bengali and English. Awesome.
Because most were highly educated and very well read.
@@MaxKropiunik Indeed, unlike Northies. The legendary music director Shri Salil Chowdhury had an even better command over English language
