The ability to freeze time in a Sonic game is actually an AWESOME idea.
Yeah, it's pretty cool how just a simple change can lead to some cool results
Reminds me actually of a game I never played: Superhot. It's main thing was nothing happens unless you move. Everything is paused till you move, including enemy projectiles
its possible in early sonic cd prototypes

I've got 4 emeralds in Emerald Hill and 3 in Chemical Plant but for some reason I can get FIVE, IN EMERALD HILL and under very specific circumstances and just get 2 in Chemical Plant.

Even though he wasn't introduced until the next game. You can play as Knuckles in this game. The original Sonic and knuckles, will allow you to play as Knuckles. You would just have to attach sonic 2, to sonic and knuckles. Allowing you to play as Knuckles.
