America's hippest puppets met the country's hippest rock stars when THE GOO GOO DOLLS paid a visit to the set of SESAME STREET on Wednesday, October 27.
Rock frontman JOHN RZEZNIK performed what is likely to stand out as one of the most unusual duets of his career when he and the band were joined by ELMO in a rendition of their song, PRIDE.
The 31st season of Sesame Street begins broadcasting in America in January. Generations of American kids and children worldwide have learned their first letters of the alphabet with the aid of Elmo, Big Bird and the rest of the motley Sesame Street gang.
The award winning series has long been hailed as one of the best education tools in broadcasting. And plenty of adults are regular viewers of the series too.
The Goo Goo Dolls comprises vocalist and songwriter Rzeznik, bassist ROB TAKAC and drummer MIKE MALININ. Rzeznik and Takac came out of the lively New York punk scene of the mid-1980s and spent years building up a devoted cult following around the States before the big time knocked on their door.
After several band names, they chanced apon an advert for a noisy little toy called The Goo Goo Doll in the back of a comic.
Years of touring a sevberal albums followed. But it wasn't until their fifth album, A BOY NAMED GOO, in 1995 that America started to sit up and take notice. The single NAME gave them their first bona fide hit.
At this time they sued their record label to get out of their contract and original drummer George Tutuska was replaced by Malinin.
Since then the group have built up a solid following and become one of America's biggest acts.Last year's album DIZZY UP THE GIRL resonates with the band's penchant for kickass power ballads. The song IRIS, which was from the album and used on the soundtrack for CITY OF ANGELS holds a place in music history as the most
played song by a group at multiple formats in any one week.
