NO R&B SLASH SOUL ARTIST OR ARTISTS DOMINATED THE 1970'S LIKE EARTH,WIND AND FIRE DID.THOSE JUST THE FACTS.AND THEY THE BEST DAMN BAND EVER IN MY OPINION.
My Aunt, rest her soul gave me Gratitude and Graham Central Station's Ain't No 'Bout-A-Doubt It on vinyl for my 8th birthday. I still have both of the albums. To date Gratitude is the cleanest live album I've ever heard. On that note let's give the recording engineer some love.
The early 70s was a different time in that era. EWF was one of bands got this country thru times. Don't forget ,way of the world and keep your head to the sky. Songs which gave us spirit in our hearts. Togetherness and love for one another (EWF.( There music is for everyone)
This era was when their musicality was fresh, they weren't being forced to play "pop music" by the record company. This sounds as good today as it did 42 years ago.
bill bather. I dont think the people here know what you are talking about. I saw them on the Gratitude tour in the summer of 1975, at SMU's Moody Coliseum. Best show I've been to before or after, and that includes ALL of the 70's greats, Michael Jackson, Al Jarreau, Janet Jackson. Even some blue-eyed soul groups like Chicago, Toto, and Hall and Oates. Went to several KOOL Jazz Festivals. Saw the Commodores in Washington D.C. with LTD. The Brothers Johnson, the Isley Brothers, the Ojays . . . . NOTHING and NOBODY compared to this concert tour. As u say, complete with "the grand piano doing cartwheels and bassist Verdine White flying through the air.."
Yeah Bro. Sax player here, Andrew Wolfolk the sax player passed away a couple of years ago He was a dynamic musician and Human. He was the one that replaced Ronnie Laws from the original line up. The brass section was called The Phoenix Horns. They played on Phil Collins albums in the 80s I saw them with Phil a couple of time in L.A. E.W.F. was and is a very big part of my life. R.I.P.to the ones that left us way too soon. Peace and Love
I saw this when they had two beast drummers.Fred White and Ralph Johnson. And throw in Maurice on timbales, and Philip on congas.Pure percussion at its best🔥 They are the GOAT👈🏽
Give them credit. That particular lineup was together for 5-6 years. For 12 ultra-talented, self-assured men that’s a feat in and of itself! LOL Even the great Chicago (who NEVER took a break) had changes.

True Jazz Funk, not RandB in any way shape or form, this is Jazz and Funk at it's very funkiest. No other band has ever come close to the great EWF, nor will they, this is pure Funk with lots of Jazz thrown in in shovelfuls.
