Hey! I have the same spec (8gb RAM, 512 SSD, i5 8th gen, MX230) still most of my games lag, even after following all the other tutorials on UA-cam. Its Asus X412 and the Windows is updated.
Make sure you run the laptop while plugged in to the power cord and make sure you are using the dedicated video card. Also check your GPU temperatures, maybe your laptop is overheating.
Remember that Valorant kinda, ruins your operating system stability , make sure you reset your PC after playing it, until they fix the anti-cheat system.
My advise with this laptop, or this type of laptop. Try to tweak the cpu using xtu or throttlestop. Limit it's clock in 2ghz - 3ghz. It will reduce the temps and also reduce stuttering. I have mine locked at 2.2ghz at 4 cores active. And it runs games and app at 63-67 celsius. And you may also consider undervolting it's GPU. Using msi afterburner and locked it at 1500-1550 mhz. (Mx230 max clock is 1531mhz tho) Now, my laptop able to run games for hours without lag and stuttering. You can look for the tutorials from youtube, like I did. Cheers .. And you can
It will run Unity, but "smoothly" depends on your Unity project. If it's a simple Unity project it will work fine, if you want to develop Player Unknown Battlegrounds on it, you will be struggling to say the least.

I have an aspire 3 with the exact same specs with only no ssd and my laptop is nothing compared to yours...my laptop struggles to run fortnite at even 720p...it cannot keep a stable 60fps and I have fps drops every 20 seconds
Buy an SSD. SSD are not that expensive these days and ensure you that you have a better computing experience overall. Games and modern operating systems kinda require an SSD nowadays, The game resources need to be streamed from the internal storage device and the poor HDD does not handle it.

I think it's definitely because of the 4GB of RAM. Because the RAM is too small, the system has to load stuff from the HDD/SSD from time to time into memory and when it does that, you get big FPS drops. If you had 8GB of RAM, then the system could load almost everything in RAM from the start and wouldn't need to access the HDD/SSD very often.

@@HoangAnh-qu6xd I really do not know for sure. But I can suspect that the game is not entirely well optimized to take advantage of all the cores. On top of that, the 1035G1 is not a very powerful processor anyway, being designed for ultrabooks. So I guess it could be a combination of factors, like poor game optimisation + underpowered processor.

As you can see in the video we got some spikes too. They are because of the poor cooling of the CPU (commonly used at this price range). Make sure that you are plugged in when you are gaming.

You either have the wrong settings or for some reason your laptop is using the Intel integrated video card instead of the MX230. Make sure you have the power cord plugged in and check your Nvidia control panel settings.

It's is nothing to be scared of, but if the temperature is reached while in stand by, you should change thermal paste (usually after 1 year). The laptop will still work but it will be more sluggish.

Having only one fan and one shared heat-pipe for both CPU and GPU means the thermals are not that good, even on lower-end hardware, but is nothing to be scared of.

It might be, though I am not sure, that the laptop switches to its integrated GPU. However, I think what's more likely is that for some reason you are experiencing a drop in frequency for either the CPU or the GPU. You should also check the frequencies, not just the temps. I also suggest you try a BIOS update.

I don't know what to say, but it sounds like you have an overheating problem, in the sense that your laptop cannot keep the GPU below 75C under full load. I suggest you check your system fans and/or replace the thermal paste. Also update to latest BIOS.

@@juanyosef6438 The "usage" stats represents if the game requires the gpu to be at 100% or lower. It is good that yours is a lower levels, because it means that your game is not that demanding and you can go higher in the settings.

@@juanyosef6438 It is because after you are playing for a while you have more textures loaded in the video memory. If it was a bad GPU it should have been reversed, as long as you play longer the GPU should be hotter and the performance should be lower. So in your case the games are the problem or maybe background programs. When you turn on your laptop let it sit 10-15 minutes before you start playing so in can scan for viruses or download updates without impacting your gaming performance. Enabling Game mod should remove this problems.

We didn't do anything in particular, the laptop performs this way out of the box. Maybe your game is installed on a slow HDD.

No, everything is as it was delivered from the factory. What we do is to install a fresh, clean version of Windows before any testing.

that's impossible, my X509JP mx330 cpu i5 1035G1 playing gta v with lowest setting still have big drop fps sometime, or it's because my 4GB ram?

It's a generic budget laptop so don't expect high gaming performance or long-term reliability. But yes, it's a good laptop for the price.

Yes is normal behavior. You need to be plugged in to benefit from the maximum performance. While on battery the performance is nearly halved.

Do you have a HDD ? Those drops usually happen if you have an HDD, not an SSD.

I am not sure if 4GB of RAM is enough. It might run of very low settings. The problem is the RAM, everything else should be OK for low settings.

Without a dedicated video card it is only good for non-graphic intensive gaming and old games.

@@juanyosef6438 The "usage" stats represents if the game requires the gpu to be at 100% or lower. It is good that yours is a lower levels, because it means that your game is not that demanding and you can go higher in the settings.
@@Notebcom I don't think so, because my game run around 20 fps. and then after 15 minute and the gpu % is rising my fps run at 40-50 fps
(my game that i played arma 3, bf 4, csgo, gta v) all have same issue with lower fps at the beginning then higher fps (40+) after 15-20 minutes.

@@juanyosef6438 It is because after you are playing for a while you have more textures loaded in the video memory. If it was a bad GPU it should have been reversed, as long as you play longer the GPU should be hotter and the performance should be lower. So in your case the games are the problem or maybe background programs. When you turn on your laptop let it sit 10-15 minutes before you start playing so in can scan for viruses or download updates without impacting your gaming performance. Enabling Game mod should remove this problems.

There is no specific SSD which is best for a particular laptop. Generally, Crucial MX series SSDs are the best bang for the buck.
