For the person who is considering his daughter to study in Australia - I agree with Dr Chiu that she should go to the UK until she gets a British passport - after that she can move wherever she wants. With a british passport she can easily migrate to all Commonwealth countries including Australia and NZ. I live in Sydney and I prefer the weather here rather than the UK but you should consider long term rewards for your daughter. Unless you want to waste a few million dollars AUD, going via UK is the fastest cheapest way to get a very desirable passport.
I want to add on the comment about kids - I was chasing the corporate ladder when I am younger, until I was made redundant and had my daughter. I realised that the relentless pursuit of performance is actually quite pointless. In priority health is always number 1, and having a kid makes you re-evaluate life. Academic performance does not equate to success in life and everyone has different definition of success. I spoke to too many of my old colleagues and they did not plan for their future and ended up with nothing when they left their jobs. What I would teach my kid is that they need to be more enterpernual and don't be afraid to fail, don't be afraid to try new things, and don't be afraid to leave a bad situation. Most important of all is how to manage money wisely. We are too conditioned in society to take shit (frog in water that slowly boils) and ended up with mental problem etc. I don't think anyone on their death bed would say that they wish they worked more, it was always about the things that they didn't do but wish they did. As parents our job is really to guide our kids until they are at the age of reason and hope they make good decisions - but realise that they have to make bad decisions in order to learn. The other job is to make sure they don't make fatal mistakes. I can go on forever about this topic as I spent years thinking about it.
Mr. Hung, I concur your assertion that academic performance does not equate to success in life. The soft skills and networking are the other imperative factors paving the road to success. For example, graduated from top-notch schools will give an edge to the kid. The knowledge from good schools add additional tools to the kid's hard skill tool box. I think it also elevates the kid's other soft skills due to the peers' positive influence and the classmates' diversified background. As parents, in addition to provide a safe, healthy and positive home/environment to the children, it is important to provide resources and guidance and being a positive role model to the children. Also, learn to accept the fact that the kid will not grow up as the parent wants. Yep. let the kids to gain experience including their mistakes and to interfere if disastrous repercussion may occur.
Most likely it will not pass since it directly involved in the livelihood of individuals, but that would certainly scare the sh*t out of the depositors.
