Anyone who saves pre OBDII cars from the crusher (the lowest bidder at such an auction) is a hero in my book, no matter how nondescript or "malaise" they might seem. Love this channel.
I'll take blink codes, vacuum hoses and all the other old shit over CANBUS, BCM, direct injection, CVTs, DSGs, and all the other modern garbage.

Thank You! I agree. Gotta try to keep the old faithfuls on the road. Because the tried and true ones are les and less each year.

@@highmileagehopes9860 No problem, I figured you had the same mindset lol.
Many are doomed by careless/clueless owners who either underinsure them and then make a claim or don't pay OOP for bodywork, then there's the cars that get donated or junked because the owner died/stopping driving. Stuff is infuriating. Also can throw inept or lying mechanics into the mix as well. Hell, a lot of bodyshops/mechanics won't touch pre 96 cars or will lie/sabotage them. Makes me think there's some sort of agenda afoot.

If someone would've told me even six years ago that I'd think it would be cool to see one of these squarebody Saturns out on the street, I would've put a dunce cap on their head. Now it honestly looks really sharp.

I like that body style. Water pumps on a lot of new cars are plastic. They will not last long.

The water pump on my moms car was plastic. Leaked everywhere at 40,000 miles lol and the stealership said she was out of warranty and couldn’t replace it for free.

just flew 600 mi to n c , picked up a 1999 sl2 5 sp saturn. perfect interior 124hp 4 cyl. cool ac, runs like a dream. paid 4k and worth every cent as the 2 other sl1 saturns i own run great. i like this style as well. One odd note.. that little radio set w cassette is desirable because the clock is reliable vs an aftermarket which is all digital bs. great cars!

Congratulations on your 1999! Sounds like a great car. Thanks for the info on the radio cassette. I still have this car, If I sold it I'd want someone that really appreciates Saturns to buy it.

S Series really do last forever if they’re maintained well. Timing chains, rust, and lack of oil changes are the only things that kill those cars. This one just needs some paint work and it’ll look great.

I just bought a dark blue 94 SL2 for $1200 with 156k. It's in phenomenal shape still inside and out and it's honestly a great little car except I don't fit in it well so right now it's on loan to my sister

    • @highmileagehopes9860
      @highmileagehopes9860  9 місяців тому

That's fantastic! The Saturns are very underrated in my opinion as they use a timing chain, get good fuel economy and cheap to maintain. Saturns inherently use oil and they don't hold much to begin with so it's a good idea to check it often.

Checking the Saturn car forum online : Seems your Sl2 dohc 1995 is more desirable than the Sl1's sohc's (they are prone to head's cracking) ...
Here's a post from a Super member of the Saturn forum: Re: What is the best year and model S-series?
Although I don't actually own one now....1995 SL2. Old body style, new dual airbag interior, and the last year they were still OBD1.
HOWEVER- Here's another Senior member who has a Sl1 1995-
Re: The Best Saturn S-series years
    '95 SL1 479k and counting
    (Yes, he has 479k miles....dang)
AND- If your Saturn doesn't burn oil- it was probably well cared for as far as fuel quality/ oil changes -The oil burning issues are basically from the rings getting carboned up and sticking. They don't break, they just get "stuck".
Build-up can be accelerated in a number of ways. Using low-quality fuel contributes to the development of these harmful carbon deposits.
Low-grade fuel is often saturated with contaminants that may result in not only critical engine component failure but also contribute to combustion inefficiencies over time.
Old Saturns never die, people KILL them, so check your damn oil!

You make a very good point. Great forum indeed for Saturns and I can't agree more, check your oil and keep the remaining Saturns alive! I have been changing the oil on this one quite often.

I remember my Saturn was oddly optioned as well! I had a 2002 L200 and it had heated leather, sunroof, lip spoiler on the trunk, fog lights but had steel rims and the 4 cylinder. I thought it was unique how it was optioned

There is used to be a website called saturnfans however it appears to be no more. There are however Facebook groups for Saturn SL cars that occasionally have cars for sale on there. I would check craigslist, offer up, Facebook marketplace, eBay. If you were closer this would be a great car for you.
