  • A favorite among steelers, this classic song evokes the soft, lilting sounds of the islands. "Sand" was written by the great steel guitarist & saxophonist Andy Iona in 1930. The tuning is B11: lo to high C#,D#,F#,A,C#,E. I used an "Aloha" 1950's Steel Guitar. Various island images accompany the audio. visit my website for more info: www.rosscosta.com

For a long time this was my happy place song from the age of 22-24 which was about 14 years ago now... I'd just close my eyes and dream about my imaginary life in Hawaii and used to listen to this every single day for at least a couple of years...but i still listen to it occasionally now.

thank you very much for your compliment ! andy iona's 'sand' & 'how'd ya do' are the reason i started playing steel guitar. i was a student of jerry byrd's back in '79 in honolulu. i don't have very many songs that i can play but these are the quintessential steel guitar standards...
      thanx again. aloha🤙😎

Pretty much the quintessential Hawaiian song. Love those key drops...puts me in mind of Henry Mancini's 'Lujon'.

@@rocker0215 Is this song part of an available CD? I'd like to obtain one if so. I just recently purchased a few Buddy Merril cds...such a good player. Thank you! ~ JP

    Aloha, Ross
Great to see someone from Ka'a'awa giving it a world wide thumbs up, while sharing a classic tune on the steel, and you do it well!
Also, real nice that you gave Jerry Byrd a spot in the montage.
    You made my day, dude!

I'm a music man myself-barbershop, to be exact. So harmony of any kind floors me. LOVE the visuals, and that Gus Khan cover. Done some of his stuff, but not this one.
Mahalo, and aloha from the-OK, Garden State. But STILL an Island fan. "You'se" go!:) Will check your website. WJ
