    I don't think anyone could overstate the importance of this project historically. It's not just a "product", it's a legacy. It's a living and universally accessible museum. I know that sounds corny, but how else is the character of these instruments going to survive history without the ability for people to feel what it is like to play them - or at least come as close as humanly possible. Just incredible. Musicians the world over should be grateful for this important work.

This is how I started and now I am almost able to play Lucas Kings Last Leaf Falls Original after not even a year of playing the piano. ^^

  • @pianist007
    @pianist007 7 років тому +235

    Bought it ! Right after installation I started going through the patches and I wasn't aware that the next minute was to come after 3 hours of playing and this is where I had to stop and head right to this box.
    The samples and the level of programing are top notch but I haven't seen a software instrument coming that close to the dynamic range of the real instrument it aims to recreate.
    That made me sometimes forget I was playing a software instrument and I can understand these reactions coming from the musicians on this video. This is not just a work of elaborate research, it is real instrument made by musicians who understand what musicians want. An instrument that makes them forget about everything unmusical and takes them right to creating ideas without much fuss and that's what the whole is all about.
    One thing that could be tackled in future upgrades is taking the pedal noise out of the reverb chain as it overpowers the sound on extreme settings.
    All said, this is a benchmark in digital creation of electromechanical instruments and the only thing missing on that thing is the smell of old wood, rugs and old furniture.
    Thank You Spectrasonics !

      @Maafa 1619 I think it's a joke based on the fact that no matter how much money you pay you're still not gonna learn to play the keys if you don't practice.
      Though if you don't mind paying an extremely high price, I hear Yamaha has self-playing grand pianos with internet streaming included. It's not a speaker, it's an actual grand piano with pianists playing the keys (which move automatically on your end, hammers and all) via the internet. The ultimate luxury.
      You're never gonna pull off recording something like Makrokosmos on those though. Though you can't on Keyscape either. Liking experimental music sucks sometimes.

      TehWinnerz - define “heavy weight”? Pretty sure Corey would smash any of those guys you just listed in gospel,funk, r@b, or neo soul. I have listened to everyone on that list so...yes In terms of jazz maybe he isn’t as straight on as those listed but he is with a question a “heavy hitter”. Jazz language isn’t thee only determining factor

      @@tehwinnerz5006 Well, not playing avantgarde jazz (that 99,9% of all potential listeners would not choose to listen to) doesn't make your music automatically "easy listening" which is quite a condecending term. Cory henry comes from the church/ gospel background, he is just not an avantgarde guy and stays more or less inside musical traditions. His appeal is his pure joy of playing and his strong emotion, something I miss with guys like Jason Moran, Craig Taborn or Vijay Iyer and also Keith Jarrett.

    When Herbie Hancock came on he brought a sound and feel different from anything im used too and was the only player to make me feel as if he was being programmed by an unknown force while enjoying the ride. I started laughing silly while my eyes were tearing up then I weirded myself out and thought “why am I laughing?” Then he stopped and just laughed the same way. Really opened my eyes and helped me understand to get out of my damn head when I make music and just flow and feel it. That was amazing and he is a true gift. They are all unbelievable talents and some might be better with chops but he really is childlike while he plays and reminds me how I felt when I first started. Learn to forget. If you pay attention to his face and body language he just reacts to the playing as if he’s watching a film and enjoying the journey and story. Wow. Great finale to this video. Masterpiece.

    Wow, sign me up. The Model E Rhodes is worth the price of admission alone. What a beauty. When Greg Phillinganes started playing the Model E patch, I was immediately transported back to the first time I heard the 1983 release of the Jarreau record on which this gorgeous EP was used. Then he breaks into "Mornin' and I was sold right there. You guys nailed it!
    I marvel every time I hear Corey Henry play. What an incredible talent. A real treat to hear him playing the wonderful recreation of the C7. Great sounding piano and a marvelous collection of some real classics.
