  • Hi Everyone ! 🥐
I finally made it to Vietnam ! During my trip I needed to make changes on a grade and I had to improvise myself as MacGyver to have a grading monitor that does a good job.
It made me realize that maybe, as colorist, we don't need such expensive grading monitor if we don't have funds for that.
I share with you my best alternatives for these expensive grading monitors and make you save USD3,000 ahah
    I hope you'll enjoy the video !!!

nowadays smarthphones or tablets screens are really advanced compare to big standar monitor. you can use like a second or third option after the main desk monitor.

    Thanks Frenchie CG.
I'm just looking for a travel option as a monitor and this was helpful. Appreciated.

IPads are used all the time in the post Production Field. I myself grade with my Asus ProArt 279CV. I also have an EIZOCG color accurate monitor. What's really nice, my EIZO has a built-in Calibrator. I did also want to let you and the viewers know that, you can also pick up a 43 inch OLED TV from LG. Just make sure that if you do decide to go out and buy one of these screens, make sure that it is the LG C2

Yes, that is pretty great if you have to pull out some projects while you are away :)

Hi frenchie! i own also an Asus but the PA329Q and I have contacted Asus support regarding several bugs I found (I don't have the preinstalled rec709 profile) and their calibration software doesn't work with Windows 11. Considering Asus's price, I would go directly to Eizo. What do you think? My experience with Asus and their support has been really poor.

Hi and thanks for the video! I am editing on DaVinci Resolve on my M2 iPad and I am on the fence to get a monitor but HARDWARE CALIBRATED ones are twice as expensive, so, is there a way to calibrate an SOFTWARE CALIBRATED monitor using my iPad?. Bests regards from a Venezuelan viewer in Panama!

      Hi Kake,
Do you mean you would like to calibrate a monitor ? Or do you mean you would like to calibrate your iPad to be a grading monitor ? :)
For both, you can use a color calibrator for this. I use the calibrite color checker display pro, it works well both on grading monitor and on other devices than monitors :)

@@frenchiecolorgrading Hi and thanks for the answer! I would like to calibrate a monitor using my iPad (my iPad is the only computer/device I have) and please let me know so far what are the options right now as I saw in your video something that looks you are calibrating an iPad. Bests regards!

How did you color calibrate your iPad? I have an iPad Air 2020 and I don't know how to calibrate it...if possible at all, not sure if only iPad Pro can be calibrated. Would love to get some help with that from you :)

I used the Calibrite Colorchecker Display Pro. You can calibrate other devices with it than a monitor.
I only have a normal iPad and not a new one, I don’t even know which generation it is and it worked.
If you can buy or rent a calibrite, I think you should give it a go :)

@@frenchiecolorgrading Oh i have the Spyder X but did you use a special software for it or was it just already included with the Calibrate?

Hello. You have good weather there, it's hot. There is a question. What kind of calibrator do you use and have you calibrated your Asus monitor. After all, there ΔE

Yes, I calibrate my Asus sometimes.
Out of the box, the monitor is already pretty on point, but I like to calibrate it taking in consideration the lighting in my room to get the best out of my screen.
I have a Calibrite Display Pro, it works well :)

@@frenchiecolorgrading Thanks for the answer. What about the settings on the monitor if you don't use the Calibrite ColorChecker Display ? What settings do you have on your Samsung monitor?

@@frenchiecolorgrading That is, you put the monitor on REC 709, gamma 2.2, and in particular, at what position do you have the blue filter. And what other settings do you change?
