This year the Whiteout entrance will feature a light show which should be with the stadium turned out now that they've added Lion Lights to the Penn State Athletics app. I don't think the lights will be out for the West Virginia game because it'll still be light outside, but they'll definitely do that for the Iowa game.
Yeah. And it’s wasted on Iowa. We play Michigan at home this year. Biggest home game of the year but Fox wants to get viewers at noon so that’s when that game kicks off. Seriously when is the last time the white out was the biggest game of the year? 2019.

Last year, their biggest home game was against the Bills, but that wasn't the Blackout because it had to be a night game. (Although their opponent in that game was the Bengals)
11-2 last year. 110k+ in the stadium with at least the same number outside tailgating for the season opener. It's early, but this year looks even more promising.

i've been a college ball fan all my life, been to tons of games, including 2 at the big house, and i still haven't found a crazier atmosphere than a PSU whiteout. it's absurd how many people there are and how deafeningly loud it gets
No disrespect, Penn State's whiteout is awesome. Even if they were my favorite team, which they're not, I can't say the best.....have seen many phenomenal videos from other teams! Many other teams do something similar. U of M. FSU. Ohio State. LSU.......I could go on.....

I’ve played in Death Valley, I played in Penn state during the white out, I played in Alabama, I played at Texas A&M, but nothing had a more ominous vibe than Doak Campbell. To see the spear thrown into the ground, to hear 75,000 fans chopping along, I know it’s not anywhere near the loudest stadium but as far as vibes and just pure emotion, FSU takes it hands down
I went to an Ohio State / Penn State game in happy Valley about a decade ago. Great atmosphere going in, but once they lose, you can hear a pin drop leaving the stadium.

Penn State is an Academic school with a world class program and one of the first major universities to majorly invest in online courses with their world campus initiative. They were always going to survive JoePa. Joe Paterno just brought them some minor recognition in college athletics and brought in more money to the school and he even donated money to keep the Patee library going and expand it which is why his name is on it now alongside the original name, something he fought against but the school did anyway from what I’ve read, the school had nearly no confidence in The athletic program originally from what I understand and Beaver Stadium was constructed so far away from the core part of campus because they didn’t want it to interfere with academics too much. The school main focus is still academics and Penn State is still growing, the stadium the Jordan center the dive center the rodeo arena and agriculture fields were at the edge of campus but now the center is shifting from the old main and the hub/hetzel union building over to where beaver stadium is and they keep moving the ag program facilities farther out and even the research facilities aren’t as far from campus as they used to be Penn state is like the 3rd largest city in Pennsylvania now on home game weekends and even the hotels in my hometown an hour west of there get booked up on those weekends, it’s so bad people don’t bother with hotels anymore they drive in from the airport in Pittsburgh the day of the game even though it’s a 3 to 4 hour drive to my home town so a 4 to 5 hour drive to the school/stadium Even the whiteouts are a recent change/addition, you used to be required to wear blue preferably royal or navy blue or actual team merchandise that was nittany blue. If you wore white or silver you were frowned upon or asked to leave or move seats or not considered a true fan, it was fine to wear white merchandise other times but you were pretty much required to wear blue to the games until the early 2000s they were testing the whiteout thing around the time I was there in 2002-2003 but it hadn’t caught on yet most of the fans and students and parents still wore blue
What’s awesome is that in the tunnel number 74 (olumuyiwa fashanu) I got a signed auto graph by him bc his cousins in my class and I’m his biggest fan. It’s a girl in my class cousin and he plays at Penn state and got drafted first round! What more could u ask
