  • In this video I cover how I replaced the front rubber cones, Knuckle joints and other surrounding parts.
    I have covered this from start to finish with the subframe attached to the car (yeah access was great fun!)
    This is part 1, part 2 (final part) will be coming soon

    It's amazing how many parts are still being made for so many old cars like the Mini.

      I know. There is more profit in parts now than the cars made in their day.

    Hi there doing this job right now how on earth do you get the last bolt out on the back side of the top arm ? I have tried all manner of sockets and extensions just cant get on it, great videos btw really helpful thanks in advance

    A little tip compress the cone while the car is on it wheels that way your 90% compressed. Then jack it on the tiebar bracket then axle stand. Again another good step by step vid. The way you took thet top arm out you cant do it like that on the autos you have to remove the pin altogether

      Good to know mark cheers. Thread in the cones were knackered too so it just wasn't catching enough

    DB, Top video, I guess it‘s just well it was so squashed or it would have been even harder to get out! Cheers Dave.

      Definitely Dave between the squashed cone and it having hi lo's it saved me a lot of hassle. Must be the first time on a mini that a knackered part has helped rather than hindered!!

    Great job ! Do you know what is the torque used for the big screw on top of the cones that you unscrew at the very beginning ? Thanks :)

      Mark i did consider springs but heard a few bad things about them dislodging over bad bumps and not giving as good a ride than cones. Will have to do a comparison of my own one day. Maybe another mini 😁

    Can you tell me if the front "knuckle" bushing at base of the hilo or trumpet can be replaced without having to compress the rubber cones? I need to do one on my '88 and have not yet bought the tool for compressing as my cones are still ok for now. Cheers.

      If you have a high low already on it loosen it as low as it goes, this should loosen the slack off to be able to get the top arm off, the cone should be able to be moved but will not come out unless you take the full arm off, they knuckle cup can be stubborn to get off so you would be best taking the top arm off to replace, hope this helps

      @@DBMiniDIY No hilo's yet...so looks like I'll need to get the tools and do it proper. Thx.

    Hey, great vid! Does anyone know the size of the thread inside the cone?

    • @DBMiniDIY
      @DBMiniDIY  4 роки тому

      Thanks, on cars after 1976 the thread size is 14mm. Pre 1976 it is 1/2 inch
