  • 🌺Did someone give you an amaryllis plant for Christmas and you’re thinking “now what do I do with it?”
✅If you have a waxed amaryllis bulb it is a “one season” only plant and can be discarded when it finishes flowering
✅Waxed amaryllis bulbs are hydrated with nutrients and then sealed with wax. Once the nutrients are used to create a flower it can’t be rehydrated for another season!
✅Amaryllis bulbs planted in soil can live for many years and rebloom and flower again next December for Christmas 🎅
✅After the last flower finishes blooming cut the flower stem 2”inches above the bulb but don’t remove the leaves! The leaves will be needed for photosynthesis and to harvest the suns energy for nests years flowers!
✅Move the amaryllis outdoors when the weather warms up and continue watering through the hot days of summer!
✅In September, remove the dry yucky leaves and move the amaryllis plant indoors to a cool dark room or closet, and stop watering it!
We want it to sleep and become dormant
✅In December or 4 weeks before you want it to bloom, move the amaryllis to a bright sunny room and begin watering again. Your amaryllis will rebloom for Christmas!!

I received anamaryllis two years ago which was glued to a wood slice. After the flowers were gone I thought I would just throw it away. My son suggested cutting it from the wood and planting it. I did cut it from wood and removed as much as possible of the glue. The leaves have grown huge. No flowers yet but have seen a few things on UA-cam to try to see if I can get flowers.

      Hi Trudy,
To encourage your amaryllis to flower, follow these steps:
Light: Provide 6-8 hours of indirect sunlight daily.
Temperature: Keep in 65-75°F during growth.
Watering: Water when the top inch of soil is dry; avoid waterlogging.
Fertilization: Use a balanced fertilizer at half strength during spring and summer.
Dormancy: After leaves wither, store the bulb in a cool, dark place for 8-10 weeks.
Pot Size: Use a pot with 1-2 inches of space around the bulb.
Patience: It may take time to rebloom after being forced. Consistent care will help.

What do I feed my Amaryllis bulb? I brought it inside and it’s sprouted 2 leaves that are growing rapidly.

Hi Priscilla, Thanks for watching. Amaryllis bulbs benefit from a balanced fertilizer, such as a 10-10-10 NPK fertilizer. You can use a liquid fertilizer or slow-release pellets. Apply the fertilizer according to the instructions on the packaging.
Start fertilizing your Amaryllis bulb when it begins to produce leaves. Feed it every two to four weeks during the growing season, which typically lasts from fall through spring.
Dissolve the fertilizer in water according to the instructions on the package. Then water your plant with this solution, making sure to saturate the soil but not let it become waterlogged. Avoid getting fertilizer on the leaves, as it can cause damage.

So , we will have the Christmas Flower and it soon gonna fade after couple months after, what should we do at that time, only cut the flower-dead stem or get back to another dormancy

      Hi and thanks for watching.
After your Amaryllis flower fades...Here's what you should do:
Remove the Flower Stem: Once the flowers have faded, cut the flower stem back to the base of the plant using clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears. This encourages the plant to focus its energy on foliage growth and bulb development.
Continue Watering: Even though the flowers have faded, continue to water the plant regularly. This helps the foliage to remain healthy and supports the development of the bulb.
Fertilization: Resume fertilizing the plant every two to four weeks with a balanced fertilizer. This provides the nutrients necessary for the bulb to replenish its energy reserves.
Sunlight: Place the plant in a location with bright, indirect sunlight to ensure healthy leaf growth. Adequate sunlight is crucial for the bulb to build up energy for future flowering.
Dormancy Period: In late summer or early fall, typically around September or October, gradually reduce watering and stop fertilizing. This signals to the plant that it's time to enter dormancy. Cut back on watering until the foliage begins to yellow and wither naturally.
Prepare for Dormancy: Once the foliage has yellowed and withered, usually after six to eight weeks of reduced watering, cut it back to about 2 inches above the bulb. Remove the plant from its pot if desired, shake off excess soil, and allow the bulb to dry in a cool, dry location for a few weeks.
Storage: After the bulb has dried, store it in a cool, dark place for a minimum of 6-8 weeks. Ideal temperatures for storage are around 50-55°F. You can leave the bulb in its pot or remove it and store it in a breathable container such as a paper bag filled with dry peat moss or vermiculite.
