Thanks for your videos! Down to Earth and informative! Just here for "winter bloom prep" advice, so thanks for the chill vibe! Also... My Mama has an Amaryllis (and many off chutes from her bulbs) that are the generations of flowers/plants given to my great-grandmother as a wedding gift. She blooms every Winter... Sometimes many blossoms... Sometimes a few... But, they are a gorgeous coral/orange color & we always acknowledge Grandma visiting us and blessing us with her love and beauty... Peace. xo
Good explaining from expert of Amaryllis so I will do to store AMARYLLIS in order to take blom for Winter and Christmas season. So Thanks a lot for your video clip. Very useful for me, I got these Amaryllis from a good swedish friend last Christmas (2021) Than I took care these 2 bulbs well - finally it got flowers in July - very surprising for me ✌ Now They are outside - at the balkony. So I will take them for storing before Christmas season wil come. 🎄✨🎀 Best Wishes from STOCKHOLM - SWEDEN😇✨
We had one in our house for years as a house plant. It never bloomed and it belonged to someone else before we got it so we didn’t even know what it was. Planted it outside one spring on a whim and it sent out 3 huge blooms. Luckily we live somewhere just warm enough for it to survive annually
In my zone 8b garden, I can either bring them inside to place in a fridge since we are hot in September or just wait until springtime and they will bloom outside in April and May.
I guess I goofed. I cleaned and trimmed all the roots off. The bulbs without soil are in the closet. Too cold here in NE Alabama to plant out till next Spring.
Thank you Devin, for the great informative video. I got a pot of 3 last Xmas and they had 12 blooms. I clipped off the dead flowers and left it indoors in indirect light. I'm in Virginia and is cold even in spring. All of them have 2 or 3 extra long leaves about 3 to 4 ft., so long that they are flopping over. Today is Sept 4 and I'm going to repot them separately. Shall I cut off the leaves now, like you, or should I wait a bit till the roots get their nutrition from the soil? Or instead of repotting, shall I just dry them out for dormancy? Thank you. Reply
Thank you for the video. I subscribed for more. I have my first amaryllis. Today is June 6th. Right now I have just the leaves but I have been watering the plant when needed. When would probably be the best time for me to prepare it for dormancy and do I need to re-pot the bulb before I do.
of course they're exceptions to the rule when it comes to growing species Amaryllis like the Beautiful . Papilio aka the "Butterfly Amaryllis". Papilio doesn't go completely dormant.
I have a question, I bought a few Amarilis Plants and they are amazing, I live in CNJ and the winter can be brutal, how long can I store the bulb once it goes dormin, I'm planning to go away for the winter so can I keep it in a cool dark place till I return?
I got my Amaryllis to bloom . I have 5. But for some reason each bloom only lasted for exactly 3 days. Would you know what would cause that? I got the bulbs from a reputable store.
Could I store my pot with a cardboard box over it in a room that's not too hot as I don't have another place to store it? How many months in the dark and does it need to be completely dry from now on? What should I do to the roots that are coming through the bottom of the pot? Thx.
So I am thinking about getting my first amaryllis. What is the deal with the wax covered and moss covered ones they sell online? Can I get one of those or do I need to buy a regular bulb? I know the wax/moss covered ones go 50% off after thanksgiving is why I am asking. thanks!
I'm confused, watched another person say that she let's the foliage stay on the bulbs until they yellow, then remove them. Does it make a difference with blooming???
So my Amarillis was given to me xmas time. Bloomed until January. It's February and I have no idea what to do with it. I've cut out the stem and dead flowers. But I see some leaves coming up from the bulb. So what should I do? take it out and put it away for two months?
sometimes the problem is if they're not able to get cool enough temperatures when theyre in dormancy. some gardeners recommend that they get to 45F for the majority of the dormancy to induce new flowers after wards
So many videos suggested,if your Amaryllis leaves are green, don't cut them, let them dry natural, what way is best to get flower, cut the greens or let it dry now ?
By the time autumn arrives your plants should have had sufficient time to absorb sunlight thru the leaves and it is likely that the leaves are finishing up at that point anyways

Oh no I was following this other UA-cam guy and he trimmed off the roots!! I followed that I trimmed the green and the roots!! Well darn it!!
You will be ok! They such great performers they probably won’t skip a beat

lucky! if i lived in a warm location id grow tons outside. their flowers are so gorgeous

Very cool!! Some of my other warm region friends have told me the same! I wish I could do that!
New subscriber here . I’m going for my first amar today. ☺️ thanks for the video.
sweet!!! theyre one of my favorite!!

Amaryllis are pretty resilient, they’ll likely still do well
This was so informative
thanks for watching dottie :)
I thought you were suppose to leave the green leafs on when you store them in the cool basement and just let them die down naturally?
I’ll test both methods and see what works better but I think they should be about the same
@@plantvibrations what is your recommendation on how long to keep them in the basement two or three months?
Thank you.
Reply
I would just let them dry out into dormancy and repot when you take them out of dormancy. You can leave the foliage on and remove later
@@plantvibrations Thanks for the quick reply. I'll take your advice.
You answered my questions!
:)
Thanks for the informative video, im happy for mine to bloom febuary/ early march can i let them soak up some more sun a little longer?
Yeah absolutely. Just plan to start the dormancy process around beginning of November
many thanks

I’d recommend bringing back inside last week of august!
I love your passion, can I store them in my basement
Yep absolutely!
Very informative!
Thanks for watching
Very good video 💝
Many many thanks

just picked one up online!! so excited i got one before they all sold out

You can leave stored for 12-16 weeks easily
Let it keep its leaves, so that it recoup the energy it put into its leaves.
👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💐
thanks for watching!!
I got my Amaryllis to bloom . I have 5. But for some reason each bloom only lasted for exactly 3 days. Would you know what would cause that? I got the bulbs from a reputable store.
I’d say place them outside during the summer so they can soak up as much sun as possible and fertilize monthly during that time
Could I put them into hibernation in November 🤔 as I’m away all December so don’t have to rely on anyone watering them when I’m away
Yes absolutely!
Isn't there a benefit to allow the straps or leaves to dry out and turn brown???
If you let them be all summer long they will have absorbed sufficient energy
Could I store my pot with a cardboard box over it in a room that's not too hot as I don't have another place to store it? How many months in the dark and does it need to be completely dry from now on? What should I do to the roots that are coming through the bottom of the pot? Thx.
Yep that’ll work. Leave it for about 8 weeks and totally dry. After the eight weeks repot in fresh soil and you’ll be able to bury the emanating roots
Had beautiful blooms but there's no foliage,is that ok?
Yep that happens many times. Foliage will eventually come
So I am thinking about getting my first amaryllis. What is the deal with the wax covered and moss covered ones they sell online? Can I get one of those or do I need to buy a regular bulb? I know the wax/moss covered ones go 50% off after thanksgiving is why I am asking. thanks!
The wax are fine if you only plan to keep it one season. I keep mine year to year so the wax isn’t great for that
Do I have to change my soil every year for it still looks good?
every 3 years or so is how i do it
Thanku for responding, I watch your advice before others, very accurate!!!
@@plantvibrations
This is my first year ! So what do I fertilize them with, please
Fertilizer in the summer!
@@plantvibrations so not now, thanks for the info dude ! Just an all purpose? And how often? Thanks again!!!
Do you use slow release fertilizer or liquid on your Amaryllis ?
I do not. I use Robertas bounty
I'm confused, watched another person say that she let's the foliage stay on the bulbs until they yellow, then remove them. Does it make a difference with blooming???
You can leave them on if it’s convenient. However by this time of year they ought to have absorbed sufficient light energy if grown properly
So my Amarillis was given to me xmas time. Bloomed until January. It's February and I have no idea what to do with it. I've cut out the stem and dead flowers. But I see some leaves coming up from the bulb. So what should I do? take it out and put it away for two months?
Hi Nora! check out this video on after bloom care ua-cam.com/video/vZQVN0Xm9uQ/v-deo.html
Can I repot before I do this?
Id repot after waking up
@@plantvibrations thank you!
I have one for three years, done exactly how you do them , and it has never bloomed.
What is the matter?
sometimes the problem is if they're not able to get cool enough temperatures when theyre in dormancy. some gardeners recommend that they get to 45F for the majority of the dormancy to induce new flowers after wards
Where do buy your Amaryllis ? Or names of reputable companies .
White flower farm
Why cut off the leaves?
You can cut them off pre or post dormancy
one person says take out off dirt you.are keep in pots
It saves a lot of space that way
So many videos suggested,if your Amaryllis leaves are green, don't cut them, let them dry natural, what way is best to get flower, cut the greens or let it dry now ?
By the time autumn arrives your plants should have had sufficient time to absorb sunlight thru the leaves and it is likely that the leaves are finishing up at that point anyways
Зачем это показывать без перевода очень глупо ведь не все знают другие языки
I wish UA-cam made creating subtitle easier for all language translatuona
