Nice setup Vince. I love Melnor sprinklers, mainly because they stand behind their products. I have several impact sprinklers and their tripod sprinklers and when a head malfunctions, I just call them and they mail me brand new heads as part of their lifetime warranty no questions asked. Great company, great products!
Thank you! I've had the timers for about a year now and they are awesome. The sprinklers that were sent to me are extremely solid and well made for sure. Way better than what I was using before.
You should get 2 rain bird inground sprinkler kits and then get a 4zone bhyve orbit timer that you can set and use manually but also on your phone. 2 zones for extra use. Then you could get extra parts if you needed to. Ive done this and its really great
I've been a big Melnor sprinkler fan since I was a kid. In fact i've been collecting their sprinklers off ebay for a while now and have a nice collection from oscillators to the pulsating/impulse Time-A-Matic sprinklers. They had that white and green color scheme in those days. Now it seems the quality isn't the same because its now all manufactured over seas. Now I did cave in and buy their small sprinklers on a spike that have an adjustable angle to them. And you can put them in series just like those pulsating sprinklers they sent you. I'll also add that they have done a good job keeping up with the irrigation trends. And I do want to try out their rain cloud irrigation controller because i can run it off my iPhone. But as far as quality, I would have to question that. I'd really like to see them start manufacturing their products here in the U.S again.
Thanks for sharing! I’d love to see more stuff made in the USA from a lot of companies. That rain cloud irrigation controller sounds cool. I’ll need to look into that.
I have two of those Melnor 4 port timers. They cost about $60 each. The functionality is pretty impressive for something that inexpensive. So far for me the Achilles heel of the timer is its connection to the hose bib. Not real strong there. I accidentally bumped into the hose that was attached to it and that connection broke. Contacted Melnor and they sent me a new one cause it was still under warranty. Very pleased with the timers and customer service.
Thanks for watching and for your question. Unfortunately, I don't have an update video. I gave this entire setup to a local farmer to use. I had since upgraded to an in-ground irrigation system.
@@TheLawngineer Thanks for the reply! Just made a budget automatic system for my front yard and having trouble reaching the corner. Probably upgrade to in-ground next year as well.
I ran longer hose so I could run around the perimeter of the lawn rather than running through the middle. This is a semi-permanent setup for the season… so I don’t want the hose to kill the grass in the middle of the yard.
@@TheLawngineer Have your ever looked into or tried a pump to hook up to your hose bib to increase pressure? I have seen people use them before and was curious if they worked to increase pressure and use multiple sprinklers at once.
Thanks! A lot to learn. That’s why we put out these videos. Just saw your question on another video. Any more questions, leave them in the comments and I’ll respond as soon as I can.
We are not adding any chemicals in the line. If you were, I would recommend doing so. Those units typically sit right at the spigot. In our case, the head differential between the elevation of the spigot in relation to the sprinklers is so that you won’t get any back flow.
@@angelf9800 if you have basement plumbing, then I would recommend a backlow preventer or vacuum breaker. Without one, you could create a siphon condition in the basement with the plumbing located beneath the hoses and such outside.

I actually use that same timer for my landscape company for watering new lawns.
I love my Melnor timer. Going on 3 years now with it for my drip irrigation

Like the vid the laying the hose in the sun trick works great for extension cords too

My MELNOR timer lasted one season.
@@andreabasney yeah, that's my concern. If they'll hold up.
Looks great. No digging. Love it.
Thank you!
Do you have an update? It seems hard to believe that you are getting adequate coverage with just 3 heads! If so, great work!

@@TheLawngineer Thanks for the reply! Just made a budget automatic system for my front yard and having trouble reaching the corner. Probably upgrade to in-ground next year as well.
Great video man. Did something similar with regular Rainbird Sprinklers. Looking to use up Tubing instead.
Thank you!
Great video. Similar setup to what I'm trying to setup.
Have you considered cutting the excess hose so that the water has less distance to run?
I ran longer hose so I could run around the perimeter of the lawn rather than running through the middle. This is a semi-permanent setup for the season… so I don’t want the hose to kill the grass in the middle of the yard.
Have you made a video on those beautiful evergreens??
Unfortunately, those are my neighbors. Planted before we moved in.
That's a nice setup for sure! Do you plan to get in ground irrigation at some point?
Would love to have an in-ground system. Maybe one day.
Any update on the sensor? I have 6 zones set up with melnor units and this would be super useful
I didn’t notice a difference using the sensor. Haven’t truly tested it out. I haven’t hooked it back up this season.
I think u need head to head coverage so IMO I would use the 4th sprinkler
I agree… gonna add the 4th one for my renovation. Thanks for watching!
How much impact will the hoses have on your lawn mowing? Will you have to disconnect and remove those hoses every time you mow?
I had these on the outside perimeter of the lawn. No impacts.
They sent you product? Ya, this will be an unbiased video for sure.
I can’t seem to find any info on the distance knob. Is this supposed to move freely? Mine does not.. I’m not sure if the adjustment is working on it
Should rotate. Mine was maxed out, so had to rotate clockwise to tighten. Depress the deflector and it should be easier to turn the knob.
do you water all zones at once or each at a different time to get better water pressure ?
Different times to get maximum pressure at each head.

Question
I know you are using water hoses
But do you need a backflow preventer when doing this.
We are not adding any chemicals in the line. If you were, I would recommend doing so. Those units typically sit right at the spigot. In our case, the head differential between the elevation of the spigot in relation to the sprinklers is so that you won’t get any back flow.

@@TheLawngineer what size garden hose did you use for your sprinklers.
@@angelf9800 they were all 5/8”
Hello, I think you need a pump, did you get one? and if so, which one did you get? Thanks
Not sure what you mean by pump?
@@TheLawngineer a water pump, like to strengthen the amount of water and the water pressure, do you have one?
@@Jad.Khoury no pumps here. Pretty good pressure just from City water.
You probably saved yourself $5,000 doing that as opposed to having a professional service come and do an inground system.
That’s about right. Got an estimate a while back and wasn’t far off from that.
That's the lazy way to install a sprinkler system.
