I get where the customer is coming from here. Ageing is a part of life, whether you're a person or a paving slab. A patio doesn't have to look new to look good. If they want the character of the ageing stones without the slipperyness then this looks like the perfect way to go.
Very well said. Aged, reclaimed look that has lots of character and beauty of imperfection are very much in and the preference of many. I've polished quite a few silver and copper items only to realize that I preferred unpolished look with patina in matte, different shade and loads of character to polished, shiny, new look. I can see tastes may be very polarized here and from Nick's point of view, the patio wasn't clean to his standards, but as much as light stone was pretty, I can see why the owners might feel them to be a bit lacking in vibrancy, or even concrete like to their taste. Very interesting job for Nick and a great success, If I may say so - it's not easy meeting specific criteria that requires artistic eye and skillful hand. It's way more difficult to match desirable level of clean that customers envisioned than to clean the tiles to perfection. Well done Nick, job very well done. You might be dubbed 'the king of wabi sabi pressure washing' by your satisfied customers some day. :)
The full quote from Harry Selfridge is "The customer is always right, in matters of taste". And I think that fits here. :)
I didn't know that, thanks for teaching me something new, great stuff ❤️
You're right. It might not be everyone's cup of tea with these particular results, but if the customers are happy then that's all that matters.
"The customer is always right 'in the matter of taste.'" That second part has been mostly forgotten in this age but it's the actual phrase.
You can only do what the customer wants, you did a great job on your part!
I think your customers love the contrast between the black on the stone and the white of the pointing. But as you said...it is their taste and that is what makes them happy. Good job putting the customer's desires first. And the before and after shots...you could definitely see a difference. Great job, Nick. Thanks for sharing, and have a great week. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hi Denise, very well said, thank you ☺️❤️
That one would have been very hard for me to do. I have OCD tendency when it come to cleaning patios etc... it would have driven me mad.
😁 I'm with you 👍
I kinda like it. Almost looks like slate in areas. ❤
Wow Nick. I can only imagine how much you struggled with this job, leaving it in (in your opinion) a sub-standard state.
Once again though, delivered exactly what the customer wanted, and left them happy and thats what matters!
Thanks very much for the upload, have a great week :)
Well said! Cheers Al 😍
Each to their own , I actually like how it looks , Was surprised at how much lighter it got after the wash.
love the weathered look. this highlights the age of the stone.
Ok controversial opinion here but I can actually see why they like it, it's aged look with now clean pointing is quite attractive in its own way 😊
However while I can see their point of view I think the original colours via the clean ones they do have is more to my taste 😊
As you say customers opinion is what matters after all they are the ones paying you 😁
Hope you and your family are doing well 😊 just 4 days left and the kids are off here for 10 days 😭😭😭😭
Love and hugs to all 🤗🤗
I see where you're coming from for sure 🙂. Many thanks as always Polgara ❤️ big hugs 🫂
Like some of the others in the comments I like that look as well. It is the customer paying so they should get what they want, even if it isn't to your taste.
As long as the pointing was light, I think the darker look went very well with their house, actually.
I like it. You have the customer what they wanted. It doesn’t matter what we want.
Don't get disoppointed about it. I like the way it turned out. Looks clean and that is what really matters. Thank you for the video. Have a bless week by our LORD. The LORD Father loves you very much.
Amen.
Thank you ☺️
Even without hypo it still looks a good finish, brings in a new meaning to crazy paving.
😆 indeed 😍
I get what they mean, it's fitting for a cottage garden, just needed the slime gone, good job ❤👍
I have to admit I can see their point of view. They have lived with it for years, so to them it looks correct. Even for me, I think the black stone (at least while it is wet) looks quite handsome in the surroundings there. The pointing cleaned up nicely, which I think is good. Personally, I would have liked to see the brick coping clean up better, but doing that without also bleaching the pavement would have been difficult. And they may like the bricks as they are.
The black color is more fitting in with the age of the home and the design of the patio! The white areas are rather off-putting here. Good on ya Nick!
Thanks Cleopatra 💕
I can kind of see why they like it😂. I also wonder why people dont completely clear the area of pots, tables etc for you. Of course, if they are elderly or unable to then that is different but I have seen you moving things almost all of the time!
That is an interesting situation. They started with used materials, that were even black, and then later, seeing actually cleaned stone, prefer the very aged look. That is o.k. They have made a knowledgeable decision, based on experience. I think I'd probably prefer black over what I sometimes think of as Dalmation, when the Black Spot is well set and refusing to come off. (Did read an account by one power washer, where he found if he puts on hypo first and then power washes with a turbo, he can..sometimes with three tries and increasing concentration of hypo, get off really ingrained Black Spot.) However, this was a choice of aesthetics and I'm glad they are now content with what they chose. This is more like creating a theater set scene. 7:06, watching how it goes, like the livening of the brick colors and it is true, there is a definition of clean. They won't be worrying about safety, as in slipping from algae. They have also kept something rare and unique.
Looks better than it did, good job. Glad the customer likes it
I miss Lee's van waffle :-) Well done for posting that, great that the customer communicated hat they wanted and you went with it - I bet it was hard not to clean it perfectly as normal.
Some people like black spots on their pavers - Some people like pink & white spots on their favourite work clothes 🤣🤣 Each to his own hey Nick 😄
🤣 Indeed 💕
There's a slight difference. Ppl are all so different. To each his own like you mentioned. Good job.
Well done Nick tailoring your services to suit your customers needs. That's why you get repeat work 👏🏻
Thanks guys 👍
I actually really like that , it gives it character . Good job 👍
Good Afternoon Nick 😊 It’s like an itch you can not scratch. lol The best thing is you have made them happy ❤
Hey Randi, very true, well said ❤️
What you cleaned was the grime and algae that make wet stone slippery. Plus the joints now show up the individual stones. My preference would also be to clean it fully, but it's not my house or my patio. If they are happy, then may they enjoy their freshly spruced up area.
Good on you for listening to your customer. Looks good sir.
Hey... as long as you got paid then it's a WIN for you!! Enjoy, have a "cuppa" and move on to the next one :) Wooooot you rocked it!
Very mature outlook - refreshing to hear. Respect to you.
I kinda like it darker. It gives the patio charachter and some depth ibstead of just being all grey. I bet it was hard to not clean it "proper" ! ! 😊
I think I can kind of see where they're coming from? The spot-stained and blackened stones have a kind of moody, Gothic vibe to them, and some people just love that aesthetic. For these folk, I guess the black spot is acting like carpenter's stain soaked into wooden furniture, making it darker and more richly toned. Walnut-colored instead of pale pine or birchwood. The cleaning _does_ brighten up the pointing, and really makes the crazy pattern pop nicely in contrast.
Have you ever seen those wire bristle rotating scrubbers for removing moss? They're like the love-child of a flat surface cleaner and a street-sweeper. I wonder if using one of them to really scrub in the hypo would scour really stubborn black spot out of stonework? 🤔 Just a crazy idea that popped into my head.
In my line of work, I will generally give the customer what they ask for up until the point it compromises 3rd party perspective. In other words, I will happily turn down a job if I feel that the finished standard will lead others to view it as sub standard and I always stick by that because my reputation is only as good as the last job I did. In this case however, it's your judgement and so long as the customer is good enough to emphasise to anyone ask8ng why its still black that it is how they wanted it to look then so be it.
We all know you do a diamond job mate so bravo on your patience and doing what was asked 👍👍
Nice one mate. Thanks for the great comment as always bud 😍
Well Nick, on this one I can see the customer’s point of view. Though I’d prefer blast white, the rustic look of the outcome has its own appeal. Good job as always!
Thanks mate 👍
That's what I call a complete waste of time, removing the top layer of black to expose the black beneath.
I love it. I agree with the customer. I only hate the brick surround. I would relay that with a gray brick.
The patio pattern looks better in dark, so I can understand the customer. They simply want a dark patio and let the blackspot do the work 😂 It just would have been better if the pointing had been more greyish. But the only real problem I have are the colorful edge stones. Currently they look aweful, but even if you had treated only them they wouldn't fit to the black stones. So I hope they will become so caked in black spot so they will appear black as well.
Cheer up, Nick! You definitively did a fine job 😊
I thought that as well. I feel when they layed the brick surround it was to tie the colouring of house to the paving versus contrasting it with a grey brick one.
Thanks Tatjana, love ya ❤️
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning right back at ya ♥️
That old saying “each to their own” ,the owners wishes were attended to. I, like you, prefer the pristine look. Yes the pointing looks good 👌🏼👌🏼Cheers from Oz 🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘👏🏼👏🏼✔️
Hi Howard, thanks for the great comment 👍, all the best 🙂
It don't matter what you want. I have suffered this with many clients in the upholstery world. I'm there to make what they want, not what I want. however, If they want something I can't give them a warranty on. then that's on them. signed off and agreed
I don’t know….I can see how they like the black IF all of it was all black. But with the clean spots I’d want it all clean. Didn’t know they had black limestone…interesting 🧐👏👏❤️
I dunno about this one. It would have looked more natural if they’d had the brickwork around the edge done with hypo but the pavers look splotchy. I wish you could have cleaned it properly too. Trying to make light pavers look dark with black spot just seems odd. You did your best
I must say I love it looking old ah lot more natural ❤❤❤❤
Nick you’re an awesome person, I don’t know if I could have left that patio looking like that, it would have drove me crazy!! If you think of it though they did buy a dark stone and little did they know it was just filthy!!!
Awesome job as always
Cheers mate
I understand the customer. Wanting something clean, doesn't necessarily mean wanting it looking like new. This aged stone look, can be very charming... However, those bright places, kind of ruin the vibe they were going for. It would be better to clean as best as possible, and let the whole thing get evenly aged. But under those circumstances, you did, as always, an amazing job! ☺
Thanks buddy 😍
It's too bad they didn't get black stones in the first place 😊
😁👍
hello, I discovered your videos yesterday and I've already become a fan, it's great to watch... I thought it was risky and I hope you take care of yourself, hugs straight from the city of Santos in Brazil🌻🌻🌻
Hi, welcome on board, thanks for the lovely comment 🥰
“Marginally better” is a euphemism if I ever heard one. I think the only difference I notice is that it may not be slippery for a while.
Another great video Nick really cleaned up well
Cheers bud 👍
Tenner says they want chemical on the next clean 🤣
🤣
I like it, it’s called character.
Yes, definitely to each his own! It must be hard for you to “clean” it like that! How difficult would it be if someone wanted them truly clean say in 4 years or so?
Quite hard, it would need at least at least 5-6 applications of neat 15% hypo, and even then it probably won't all come off. Might even need media blasting to remove it all.
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning wow!
Dalmation patio belting😂😂
🤣👍
"van waffle" 🤣🤣🤣
Not bad actually 😊
Its a shame but what can you do. Easy money 💰
Where did u get ya roof power wash wand and that scaffolding? If u have a link ? Awesome videos
LoL! Interesting dilemma Nick: I can obviously see your point of view, you're sort of thinking that you haven't got the optimal results you could get. However, there is maybe something slightly attractive about the dark paviours (bit black limestone-ish as you say) and, post clean, they even look slightly quartz-like through the camera lens. Guess the key bit is that you've cleaned them and got rid of all the surface grime and algae so they're now less slippery and safer. Personal choice perhaps but, as you said, the customer is always right!! :-) :-)
Cheers mate 👍
As long as it’s not slippery, but not my cup of tea.
Nick the customer is always right until they a wrong mate .😂😂
🤣✊
Nice bit of crazy paving Nick very black in places was that colour of the stone or years of dirt and grime ? bit of hypo would have helped but hey you done your bit great job Nick !😎
Cheers dude 😊
Well you’ve done the best you could with that bloody awful paving. I hope you suggested they have it all pulled up and re-laid.
Don't try to understand some people, just do the work they request, take the money, move on...
I like things clean but not clean, clean if you know what I mean.
Its like all the moss being removed off gareden walls it can look sterile I like lived in, lol.
However it clean and safe for them now and they are over the moon about it as well.
На самом деле я в чем то согласна с клиентом, так как с черным выглядит фактурнее. Но вот акантовку из кирпичей я бы попросила помыть с химией. Было бы ещё ярче. А главное, нет скольжения.
@PrestigeExternalCleaning Hey matey! Bought the XJET nice! In the tub for suction i use surfactant, hypo and some water, is this correct? Or is it just hypo and surfactant?
Today that mix sucked through to quick on a 4:1 nozzle! Maybe drop adding the water eh?
I could hear in your voice how much you wanted to do a ‘proper’ job! But as you say, it’s what the customer wanted…
Thanks Sally 😊
Looks like they wanted it!
If they liked it black and spotted, why even call you back? Very odd.
I think it's to do with it being a bit slimy and slippery when wet 👍
Nick you cannot win every-time but you tried.
Indeed mate 💕, many thanks Andrew 😊
Cleaning begins at 5:45
If we're being super picky about it, it's actually 5:47
waste of time
Mate I prefer it the dark colour as well. Just shows you everyone has their taste. I completely get why they like it that way. Well done in showing it mate as many wouldn’t. As always as ever nick. That’s why your channel is the best pal 🫡👌
Cheers bud, that's really nice of you to say, all the best mate 😍
Where you based

@@PrestigeExternalCleaning bloody hell bit far to come do my garden .
happy customer.ace
I would have had the same problem with „cleaning „ this patio only half…. I would feel like I only did half a job 😑…
But you are right… the customer’s wishes have to be respected 🫶🫶🫶
