Geoff Grammond was a gift from the gods. Even back when computers barely had enough memory to store an icon, we had Revs and Stunt Car Racer, and even to this day the F1 games are still fun and a damn sight more approachable than what Codemasters think they're doing. But yeah, we used to watch the F1 on TV then play the race at 100% with 6 or 7 pals... such a great way to waste an afternoon! - if it wasn't for games like that, I think the 16-bits would have died a lot sooner, they had to go to war against consoles and needed ammunition like Stunt Car Racer and F1.
What's incredible is there was just 11 years between the first and last of these games, and they look light years apart, but there's been 20 years since GP4 came out...and, let's be honest, are they THAT much better than GP4, even visually? not really. And certainly in terms of the gameplay and technical authenticity, arguably GP4 is still the best in the business.
I still have all of them GP1 to GP4 on cd rom still in original boxes. I loved them. Can it still work on a modern Window 7 machine ? How would you install or run them without dos ?
@@lucarnetrange : I never played it. Somehow I was oblivious of it’s existens. I was in a phase of playing consoles right around then , maybe that’s why.
For me the first one is the most revolutionary ( for its time ) but overlooked due graphics. GP2, GP3 and GP4 are based on same basic principals with upgrades , graphics and introduction of weather with GP3. The mentality and vision was already there in GP1. What GP1 brought: 1- Functional mirrors 2- Realistic seating position 3- Instrument in the car on the cluster and not around in the screen. ( this is very important to me and can only be with a realistic driving position) 4-The necessity to stick to a strict racing line to produce any decent performance. 5- Car setup that really made difference the way the car went down and handled. 6- Realistic reproduction of a whole GP weekend. 7- Possibility of real distance ( 100% ) races. 8- Random car failure and ( relatively of course ) realistic car damage. 9- Unless games before it, it would take laps and laps to recover from a mistake or you may only partially recover 10- And the list goes on..... and on.......
Anche la prima edizione era bellissima al tempo poi ovviamente si evoluta doveva continuare microprose ora sono giochi di guida arcade poco reali questo gioca ti trasmetteva senzazioni uniche poi il 2 il3 il4 e poi il buio
Spent most of my early Uni years playing F1GP on the Amiga. Full 100% GPs. Spent most of my graduation year playing GP2, in between riding my girlfriend. Didn't spend too much time with GP3, but spent a lot of time after work with GP4 and Grand Prix Legends.
Can you imagine if Geoff Crammond keeps upgrading this series? The games had always been ahead of their time.
You can play gp4 today with mods for widescreen and high resolution. Still beat the Codemasters games on a few aspects like damage and malfunctions.
@@loopkin multiplayer online ?
@@leodiablo I only played MP back in the day on LAN
Except for the ridiculous fixed framerate engine.
I just can imagine it with a lot of DLCs...
Geoff Crammond, The Legend of PC Racing Games!
the creator
not just PC! He was the legend of 8 bit micro racing games too (see REVS)

A pity there were no more games afterwards
Almost cry with my memories.
GP4 still looks ok today. Which says a lot. The man made things ahead of their time, and they were damn fun to play.
I had all four, absolutely amazing games
Processor Ocupancy 207%
You missed Grand Prix 3 2000 Season. It's a official released addon for GP3

Gp3 was the best of the bunch, gp4 was prettier but the modding at the time was very slim
Hot to mention it's still unstable as fuck.
my great show ever with the shield
they are all beautiful such an amazing series
Muy bueno. Gran trabajo de Geoff Crammond en el diseño y desarrollo de estos juegos.
The first one was the best

you could try dosbox (google it)
Saudades desses gp1 , gp2, gp3, gp4, hoje rfactor2
GR3 the best! Forever! 🤣😍💯👍
Fico imaginando se essa série estivesse continuado até os dias de hoje. Seria mais real que o real.
I loved these games but gp4 burnt out 3 motherboards on the pc... the direct x just made it run so so hot ....definitely a head of it’s time
Robert Davies for life!
The best
Jogo o GP4 até hoje, e não pretendo largar.
we could organize a championship with users who enjoyed play this gameee!!!
For some reason , I completely missed GP3.
Does it mean that you never played GP3, or that you wish you could play it again ?

I just noticed, the first in the series had functional mirrors...
Gta v still doesn't have functional mirrors

I saw a video the other day of the relstivley basic accolade grand prix, 1988, so I looked up when GP1 was released, 4 years later...
Who else came here to listen to those glorious v10 engines
Öh, where is the Amiga version?
Ĉu ĝi ekzistas?
loved the first release even though i sucked at it
Cool down lap with a lap to go?

Per me miglior simulatore
GP2 is lagging badly....
Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix is way too overrated. Cars feel way too slow and too heavy.
