    Hi friends! I hope you enjoy seeing a first in-depth look at the Altenew Stamp Wheel. I think it is an incredibly innovative stamp platform with so many possibilities for amazing stamping techniques. I customized a sticky mat with centering markings to make my Stamp Wheel work best for me, but I am sure accessories like it will be released very soon! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! :)

      Hi Simon! I have been following you since a long time ago. First, It was adorable to see such a young kid into card making and after, as you were growing up, I was impressed about your entrepreneurial drive and all that you have accomplished at such a young age. Well, today I have to tell you that you got me impressed again and definitely you have gained my respect for the gracious way in which you have stated your honest opinion without putting down the brand, explaining what goes into the creation of a tool like this, not only the quality but, the creativity of the maker, just stating that in your specific case, it wouldn't be something you would be using everyday. On top you, you left very clear that you were asking your followers please not to say that it was overpriced because it was not what you said, and it's true, you didn't, you just stated a fact: it's pricey and you understand why and explained it to us. Way to go Simon, keep breaking a leg.

    Thanks to Simon’s demonstration, I clicked on his link and pre-purchased the Stampwheel. It arrived two days ago. It’s no secret to my crafting friends that I am the world’s worst stamper. I get more ink on me than my project. I am so very happy to report that I stamp like a pro with my new, and already much loved, Stampwheel. It is an amazing tool. I’m looking forward to trying my luck at stencils. I give the Stampwheell two ink free thumbs up. On a side note, we are so lucky to have Simon!
    Warm regards to you all, Greg

    Thank you Simon for your review. I have watched several videos but yours is the first that answered my question about how to use cling red rubber stamps with the wheel. I have been thinking long and hard about this tool because I have 3 other stamping devices and gave one I absolutely didn't like away. I especially appreciate the factual approach you took to justify the price point. Yes it is high, but manufacturing new products takes money. I hope that over time, when it isn't so new, Altenew will lower the price to pass savings on to the community. In the mean time I will always be a gadget lover and I think I deserve this addition to my inventory. It will add new techniques to my crafting.
    BTW Simon, I began watching your videos when you were quite new to UA-cam. I have watched you grow up on my big screen. Your skills and delivery have improved 100% and now you have your own product line! Congratulations on your success. Keep up the good work. I am old enough to be your grandma (70 last week) and I couldn't be more impressed if you were my own.

      @simon.hurley  Рік тому +7

      Yes! It’s helpful to be a crafter and also know a lot about behind the scenes manufacturing. It’s super pricey to manufacture something like this for a small company… so the price seems pretty justified. They aren’t trying to rip you off! :)

    I absolutely love what you said at the end. I don’t think I’ll be getting the tool right now, but kudos to Altenew for the work they put into this. I think with a few refinements (your suggestions were excellent) they can do well selling this and at least recoup their investment. And I bet their next tool will be even better. And so on. But we need companies like them to be innovating. You’re right, so thank you for that reminder. 😊

    The Stamperatus by Stampin Up won me over because I could use 2 lids and flip them for layering stamps, etc. This tool is even better and with the photo polymer base for stencils, I think it’s an even better value. Great job Altenew!

      That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking! Having used and liked the Stamparatus very much, the Stamp Wheel improves on some of the limitations I’ve found in the Stamparatus. That said, my go-to tool for regular stamping is the Misti. Not because it’s better, but because I’ve used it so much that I don’t have to think about any steps- it’s fastest for me.

    • @carolmelancon
      @carolmelancon Рік тому +3

      @@cg2264 Very true. I'm fortunate that, over time, I have been able to get all three, and I think they all still have their uses. I love my mini Misti for quickly placing a sentiment or stamping a simple card. I bought extra plates for the Stamparatus so I can keep my two "handmade by" stamps permanently lined up on one plate (one centered for landscape and one for portrait). I also like having the extra plates for mass-producing Christmas cards with many different stamps in the design. I think I will especially like the Stampwheel that arrived a couple of days ago for wreaths and stenciling, though I believe Altenew replied to my query that they will also offer the flip plates separately so one can have extras.

    Simon, Thanks so much for this video! I love my Altenew Stampwheel! I did exactly what you recommended but I used the grid that came attached to the sticky mat, I now have markings showing exactly where my A2 size card goes directly in the center, I'm really happy with that. I did cut out the corners of the Grid so that the mat would still stick to the bottom of the platform and it works great. What a wonderful tool to use especially for stamp layering and wreaths, like you showed us using your Pinstripe & Berries & Branches stamps. Even with the higher price range we all bit the bullet with our Misti and are now happy we did! I believe, with time This tool will be an investment to our craft!

  • @CouzCat
    @CouzCat Рік тому +56

    If you factor in the cost of both the Misti stamp positioner AND the sticky mat, the price difference is not that different $83 vs. 100 for the Stampwheel. The photopolymer mat is a great idea & will be more durable than the sticky mats. The ability to rotate to create wreaths is also a plus. Well balanced review.

    As another alternative to the sticky matt, maybe you could use the grid lines from the original packaging that was on the photopolymer square base to help line up card stock for red rubber stamps. Obviously, it won't be sticky, so using some spray adhesive or stencil glue could possibly work, and then that way, there is less plastic waste? I suppose it depends on how warped it is once it's been taken off the photopolymer square, but I think it would be worth exploring. Any thoughts? :)

    I think this would be a game changer for use with the concord & 9th turnabout stamps. I was not sold until I saw you stencil with it. Now I will be pre-ordering one. Your solution with the sticky mat spot on! I have been cutting and using those for years and find they work just as good as the ones that are on the market today made for that purpose. My hope is that Altenew will make some sort of clear contact plastic adhesive grid for the bottom of the platform. That would solve the grid issue which I think is a necessary option for something like this. In the interim I think a piece of Cricut gridded release paper (the kind you use with Cricut type vinyl)might do the trick and should be fairly easy to stick to the bottom of the platform.
    Like you I don’t think this will replace my Misti for everyday use but it definitely will come in handy for some applications. Thanks Simon for the honest review and all the tips and tricks.

    They could also offer a replacement top for the multi stamping, in case you have more layers, like the we. R precision press. That way you could have two wheels going, to crank out those Christmas cards, without having to peel off the stamps to make room for another layer or sentiment.

    Thank you for the unbiased review and all the different testing. I think this tool will actually give the Misti a run for its money. She can’t sue Altenew because with the rotating lid and photopolymer mat, it is unique to anything else. I personally don’t care if it is magnetized bc the sticky mat would work best for my needs. I will definitely put this positioner in the queue. Maybe with your great recommendations, there will be a version 2 in the future 😂 Thank you Simon!

    Thank you Simon for your candid review on the Stampwheel. I am pretty biased when it comes to Altenew products just as I am with Ranger products because I love them as a consumer. I bought the Stampwheel and adore it for many applications. One thing I wanted to address was the alignment where you put the custom grid in the middle (which was genius) however Altenew has already addressed that issue and is coming out with an alignment tool to use in the Stampwheel on the 11th of April. Thanks again for your candid review and I am a fan of you, your products, and the Altenew Stampwheel!

    In my opinion, you did an excellent job reviewing this product. That wheel looks a little bulky to use on a daily basis but I can see how it would be extremely handy when making multiples of the same card. And it appeared to be a really sweet tool when you made the wreath! The wheel/platform seems to be a combination of Altenew's turn about jig and a stamp platform. I agree, there needs to be something on the bottom with marks, measurements to ensure proper card and/or paper alignment. Because it was so obvious when you removed the photopolymer pad to use your red rubber stamp, I'm am genuinely surprised Altenew didn't notice it right off (no slam against Altenew intended). Your creation to solve that issue was great! Job well done as always Mr Simon!!! TFS

This is an amazing mat. I have cut one for the size of my large Tim Holtz stamping platform and for my Misti stamping platform. It holds both my card stock and stencils in place as well as allowing one to mark on the mat. All without interfering with the Stamp Wheel. Just a suggestion. Thank you.

I was sold when I saw what it could do on the Altenew site, but their demo was far less thorough than yours, and I was further convinced by your demo that I made a wise purchase. You offered several suggestions that were excellent, and I agree that they should offer replacement parts. I hope that they offer additional clear top plates as well, so that you could leave stamps on for creating multiples of the same layered stamps with say the flower on one plate and the leaves on another, without having to remove the flower stamps to do the leaves. I don't have a Misti, but I have a We R Memory Keepers Stamping tool that has that feature and have multiple plates for it, which I really like. This would be a good complement to my Stamparatus. The 7.5" base size is nice as it easily fits the standard rectangle and square card sizes. I agree that a centering grid of some kind is needed, which would be made better with marks for A2, 5x7, and 6x6 paper. I've never been able to line my C&9 turnabout stamps up nicely in my Stamparatus (all user error as I haven't broken down and bought their sticky jig). This would be great for those stamps! The price point seems fair for the product. It overlaps with some other tools on the market, but is distinct enough to consider buying. I like that there are 16 "positions" for rotating a stamp to add more dimension to a wreath. Thank you for the open-minded and comprehensive - yet concise - review, Simon!

    I love this new tool whereas other wreath makers require you to have a square piece of paper you can use a rectangular card front to make a wreath on this tool. That takes an extra step out of making wreaths. Awesome!

    I did purchase this tool. I love how you added your own twist to it as far as adding the xtra piece of grid and markings to the bottom. For card sizes was a great idea . Yes I agree to adding and upgrading magnetic so it doesnt move. Im sure maybe over time they might add those features and possible keep the peice at the 100.00 after adding those features. Then more people will see how much versitil it is and purchase this if another company doesnt do it before them and add even more features to it.
    All that being said. I think it is a great tool.

    Thanks for your honest and in depth review, Simon. I, too, respect Altenew for their innovation, but overall this tool comes up short. Too many work-arounds, too many moving parts, and my arthritic hands would suffer after so many times flipping the stamping wheel back and forth to ink a stamp.

    I really appreciate another unbiased perspective on this product. I have numerous platforms and was not sure, given the price, whether I needed this one. However after watching the Altenew blog hop videos and yours, I am seriously considering. I am glad you showed the red rubber stamps as that was one of my questions but I am thinking the foam mounted red rubber would be too thick to use it. Now I think it is a unique new tool but you did point out some small drawbacks so I might wait for the next generation of the tool as I am betting they will make some of these improvements. Thank you!

    Thanks Simon for the honest review. I think this will help many to decide if this new tool will be beneficial for them. There are so many great benefits of this Stampwheel! I agree with you that there could be markings on the bottom when using rubber stamps. Perhaps there will be with a future iteration. Your solutions, in the meantime, will be easy to make it still useful. --Kristin

    Simon, thanks for this thorough review. One thought I have on it is that it takes up a smaller amount of my workspace when I am creating. And when I am creating, I tend to get very messy and my workspace gets smaller and smaller! Lol so using a misty when you have to flip the lid open, I usually have to clear stuff out of the way in order to have it lie flat and apply the ink. I’m thinking this tool will not have that issue. I’m planning to purchase it and I’m excited to try it out.
    Thanks again for a great review

    a few years back, we used to have a stamping wheel just the same, but without the sticky mat. That is what I am curious about. I wonder and doubt that it will remain sticky long enough without a protection of some sort. Just as everything sticky, it doesn't like air. Without replacing something to protect it, it will dry. I recommend to cover it with a clear window sheet, just as we do with our polymer stamps or with cricut mat, especially if you live in a very dry climate. The cricut mat is indeed a great idea to place underneath with the marking. It doesn't have to be cricut, any cheap mat will do.

    Excellent introductory review of this product. I've looked at the info from Altenew re the Stampwheel and decided to put it on the back burner for now. It's not the price point as much as "how many stamping tools to I need?" I don't have the space on my work surface or my storage areas for this right now, and I can see myself dropping the clear rotating surface creating scratches or breaking it. It's definitely a tool to consider, but ... probably not now.

    It took me a minute to see how you were doing it, but after watching it seems real easy. Love your hints, especially the sticky mat. I’ll have to check and see if it’s a good investment ($$ wise that is). I love my MISTI.. thanks Simon.. Just an added note I did purchase this. I hope you get something from this. Can’t wait to get it and try it out. I do a lot of stenciling and I do a lot of cards of the same ( assembly line). So I’m hoping not having to move the stamps around will be nice. I’m thinking that yes I can layer stamps , but I can also stamp the cardstock with multiple stamps( this is what I’m hoping). Thanks for the video Simon

    Just a suggestion, but rather than moving your cardstock to the different corners for the layering stamps, just rotate the clear wheel for each layer, after you line up and add the stamp layer onto the cardstock and pick it up with the wheel. Then you just have to turn the wheel from 12 to 3 to 6, etc (hope that makes sense. That would save you some effort. I preordered mine a couple of weeks ago, and am looking forward to playing with it. Thanks for your review! (Sorry, I wrote that before I saw the whole review). Hey Simon! I think your idea is brilliant! I will have to do that with my Altenew Stamp Wheel. I just received it the other day and having a ball with it. But, I will definitely get a sticky grid mat to place in the bottom of the stamp wheel. The first thing I noticed when I peeled off the plastic from their sticky mat was that I lost the grid marks. I'm so glad you came up with this great idea to enter it back into this product. Thanks Yay!!!! 💛

    I agree that it is slightly more expensive than some of the other stamping tools. However, for the sheer simplicity of batching cards with layering stamps and making wreaths ect, this tool is gonna be worth every penny. We'll just have wait and see what it retails for in the UK. I may need to invest in one of these.. Thanks for another great video, keep them coming.

    Thanks for this great review, Simon! I must say that the rotation technique in stamping is not a totally unique one, but Altenew’s version of stamping rotation in this tool certainly is and the best is that it gives you the accuracy needed for EXACT REPEAT STAMPING which is what made the Misti such a hit. For some of you viewers who go a ways back, you may recall that InkaDinkaDoo (out of business and no longer available) had a line of stamping tools that were plastic circles (and maybe squares) with notches in the circles where you could adhere clear stamps to a mount and then placing the mounted and inked up stamp in each notch to create a kind of frame. I still have mine but rarely use it. Lindsay, the Frugal Crafter has one too and pulled it out to demonstrate it one time. There are other brands that have created kind of “press down” stamping tools, but not with the accuracy and ability to do exact placement re-stamping as needed along with the great versatility of the StampingWheel. I’ve already pre-ordered mine and can’t wait to use it!

    Excellent review Simon. I saw another review, wasn't impressed, but yours was so comprehensive it has sold me on this being an addition to my Stamparatus. The 2 Stampartus plates reverse so there are 4 surfaces to work with so it's fine for layered stamping. Because of that I doubt I'll make a purchase right now but it will be on my wish list. I will need to do some serious soul searching before I spend that much money for what, for me, would be a stencil and wreath mat. I do appreciate your being so straight forward with the pro's and con's and suggestions for improvement. I hope Altenew watches this video and takes into account the comments from your viewers.
