It is a violation of legal ethics for a lawyer to handle a case with which they are connected without following certain procedures. The lawyer must disclose the potential conflict with the client and they must sign a waver that indicates they both understand the conflict and agree to move forward. I believe it also has to be presented to the other side's lawyer(s) and the court.
This was an amazing story. Kathrine had a dream and spent her whole life following in Dad's footsteps. His bias against women's abilities blinded him. She was devastated but kept on track. As far as recusing herself, I'm sure her family knew of her progress but it did not seem a problem. The truth was proven and the firm was diminished. Dad could handle the hard cases. Brother, the easier specialty ones. When Dad gets ready to retire, offer the firm to Katherine.
I am not a lawyer however I would advise u to go to your father's firm he. more than earn your respect he apologised and proved he is a real man. Some people are just set in their ways and no matter what they will not bend. This story is very real these things happen in all countries we have toook past customs it is not begotry it ia just plane and simple custom is hard to break he reached out Catherine should join that law firm and claims her legacy who knows perhaps her brother did not even want to become a lawyer. Thanks writer/writers for this unfinished work hope to listen to the end in a part2. Kudos to the Narrator she is reads so proper I have to smile for the most part.
Stay where you are. Going back means you’ll still be criticized and judged for every move you make. Here, you’re valued, moving up on your own merit. Not being judged for being your father’s daughter. Your brother would still be there making snide comments. Here, you can spread your wings with the firm behind you, supporting you every case you take on. Offering you bigger and better chances of growing. Not because of your father, but who you have become! Stay!
You've established yourself at a firm that took a chance on you. Your talent and bravery and determination are all yours. Move forward, not backward. Build your OWN empire and still be a Mercer. Bravo young lady, Bravo!🎉😊
Most people will tell you not to go back, as lawyer I would advise first talk to Robert to get his input (and show respect and appreciation), then I would find out what are the terms your father will give you ON paper, only then will I really think about it
Why go back to a firm that disregarded you because your a woman and your brother would give you terrible grief out of spite at his humiliating demotion stay put where your happy and build your free life
Stay where you are, unless something happens to your father and he bequeaths you the firm as you are showing how strong and resourceful you are. The second point is your brother, either through incompetence or jealousy, could sabotage your efforts. Genuinely, you are being pushed and supported currently so stick with it.
Stay. She has nowhere to go but up. Reasons to not go: Her dad would probably revert to his old ways for any conflict between them. 2. Grant! The other commenter is right about conflict of interest. Her mentor and she would have known that. Very good story and unique! Thank you!
Do NOT leave where you are ‼️ Stay where you Are Respected for who & what you are ‼️‼️‼️ You are YOU & a Great You ‼️ And, you definitely showed your father how inept your sorry brother Is ‼️ Come “Back” ????? You Never Were There 😡‼️
Working with her “ incompetent & arrogant “ brother can cause lot of frictions !!! Stay where you are / might be sad but being your own self being INDEPENDENT !!!
I think OP’s father wants her to a part of the family firm. He would not want to meet her again in court, most certainly leading to the family firm’s defeat.
He all but tossed her out, and now that she kicked his azz.. he's sorry? THIS firm gave her her shot, and allowed her to become a star. Why leave? she has everything she needs, right there. a Legacy? Over rated.
Stay where you were accepted for your talent and have proven yourself and lived up to your values. Your brother would always be trying to undermine your leadership and skills..not worth the hassle.
Tough decision to make , but a family legacy is important , and should be given priority ! May be you should give it some time , though ! to wait for the right moment to take the big step ?
Dad...NO. You will try to make me in YOUR own image and into the legacy that YOU envisioned. I will NOT be your lapdog. Make Grant run the obstacle course YOU design for YOUR firm. It's not MINE and your offer is NOT for ME, it's for YOU and your own selfish desire to carry on YOUR dreams. GOODBYE. THANK YOU for the enlightening story! I enjoyed it!
Stay where they gave you a chance to prove yourself. You will always have your entitled brother envying you if you go back. Hope for a possible merger in the future.
Don't go back!! They will just use you to the point that you will regret ever going back!!. Just stay where you are, then maybe you could go out on your own. You will be your own boss. I do hope you think good and hard on your next move. The the ball is in your court now, study the in and out before hitting it over the net. Hitting the ball over the net will define you forever. Good luck and I wish you well. From Oklahoma.
Stay where you are now. The firm has trusted you regardless of who you are or of your family background. Your current employer had honed and molded you to be a better person into what you are now. They have put their trust and faith in you, I understand the family legacy issue, but it never was your in the beginning. They chose someone else lesser. Would you like to be a second fiddle? Your family is taking you back as they had no choice but to save their asses from that no good brother of yours. Move forward and Kudos to you. No fear, face what the future may bring your way. Once again, STAY!
Better the devil you know and you should stay where you are and probably become a partner for your betterment. Going back is a no brainer and you will constantly have to deal with Grant who will always be a loser no matter what. All he will manage to do is complicate your life going forward.
Stay where you are. Someday you will be a partner in that firm. Going back to your father, sounds like a betrayal. And you will always be the third wheel.
Katherine should establish HER OWN firm. Not play on someone else's team. Not slide into the family business where everything is familiar. If you really want to make your mark, do it on your own. Katherine Mercer and Associates.
I'd say start a firm of your own where you are, but affiliated to Mercer associates. That way you'll keep and further the legacy but also work in your own space, where you've independently established your professional credentials. Win win all round!
Stay with the people that have had your back. A boss, as you said, that took you under his wing. Perhaps in the future, you can start your own firm with the name “Mercer” in the name of your firm. It could still be a “Mercer” legacy to pass on to your own children someday. It is truly a shame though, that your father didn’t give you the chance to show him what you already knew. Also, your mother must be glowing with pride. Good luck for your future. Also, God bless and wishing that you and your family have a warm holiday season. Together. 🙏🏻🎄
Have a talk with the management at your current firm. Just maybe they have noticed your work and are willing to move you up the ladder to a leadership position in that firm. You might be able to have your dream position without having to crawl back to daddy's firm and hold your brother's hand to get it. Then maybe, you can use your knowledge and experience gained at your current firm and start your own Katherine Mercer and Associates someday and start your own legacy.
Stick to your guns on your own terms and don’t look back You fought hard to get to where you are, you’re your own person and a strong one go forward and don’t look back period! I would love to know what you decided ! however you do you young lady, good luck! 😢
This would happen in my family if father was a lawyer with firm and I had a brother. My life was seen as worthless, that being a schoolteacher and wife was my father’s view of what was my due lot. My intelligence had been ridiculed as a child, I understood what Einstein could not work out even the afternoon of his death and that he was wrong. This is a disgusting and realistic. Favouring the male, or the Golden less intelligent Child sister in my case. Being more intelligent meant I was rejected, like she was until her father realised his business needed her.
Stay wherever you are. You are to work and excel until you become the co-owner. It is then you merge with your father's firm to become the biggest shareholder Good luck..
I would give the father a time to join his firm, the year before his retirement. Work properly for her present firm, not leave them in the lurch, at same time not tell them she will leave in some future time.😢 her father has acted for his own benefit again, not for hers. She needs to return experienced and ready to take over running the firm.
Stay where you are. You earned it. Besides, who do you think would be assigned to mentor your brother? And as your brother becomes more proficient under your mentorship, who do you think your dad will name as his successor?
Stay in the place that has given you growth, going back where you’ve been disrespected is not growth or productive for you. Keep out of toxic workplaces
Stay where you are, however don’t take up cases conflicting with Mercener Associates . 😊 Once you’ve reached the top, branch out start a firm of your own and enhance your own identity.
I ay stay where you are at you are on your way up in that firm and you will not have to work with people at you dads firm that though you was not worth of taking over the firm. (JMO). (Mississippi Gulf Coast, USA).
What a father, he has a wonderful daughter that worked hard to get her law degree. Saying that she should become a good wife. This is a foolish man that will regret his mistakes after. This firm you are at is not your legacy but you can make it yours as well. Give your dad a new goal to work to for Mercer.
I loved how this ended. It was brilliant to leave it up to the listener to decide. After all, none of us are the main character and what we would decide would be based on our own past and guesses at what the future would bring.
Were you offered a partnership? Not just working with a jealous brother who would be wishing you The best and undermining you. Stay were you are appreciated. Also your dad will leave the business to his Son and not you.
HELL !! HELL !! NO. !! START YOUR. “”””. OWN “”””. FIRM ! HONESTLY ? DO YOU REALLY ?? THINK 💭. YOUR. FATHER ? SUDDENLY STARTED TO. LOVE 💕 YOU !! OFFER. IS ONLY 4. GRANT AND. FATHER 2. USE HER , ALSO. FATHER AND BROTHER. WILL. “”””. ALWAYS “””. LOOK 👀. DOWN ON WOMEN ! ALWAYS. WILL FEEL WOMEN ARE. NOTHING BUT. “”””. BED WARMERS “”””. COOKS &. HOUSEKEEPERS
I agree. I thought she could return to take over just before he resigned. You are absolutely right. Good reason for him to be envious and jealous of her intelligence, high schooling results and clearly would be better than both the father and son. I suffered that as did my child, rejected because of extreme intelligence high ethics and kindness, while the obese, cheating, stupid grandchild was given everything.
You showed your father your true self in the courtroom. You proved him and Grant wrong. Your skills as a lawyer dominated the case and was well rewarded in the end. Going back to your family's law firm would be a grave mistake now. Stay where you are for now, but I suggest you return to your family's firm in like 10 to 15 years if you decide to. It's your life so live it the best way possible.
If you return the very next case that doesn't go your way ( and you won't win them all ) will see both your brother & father turn on you as a 'one hit wonder'.
If I were you,I’d stay where you’re valued, respected and trusted, you’ve earned your success on your own without your family name with your own merit and determination and to prove yourself capable in everything you set your mind to do, look back only to remind The lessons you’ve learned and keep moving forward to be a better you, this is your life, your happiness, be The best you can be
I wouldn't leave!!! Someone gave you a chance to prove yourself!!!!! Your name could be up as partner at your new firm. Remember, you were passed over from your own family??!!!
Please please do an update to this video, it's awesome. I'd love to see her take her own path, leave her family and that lawfirm behind like they did to her. Why go back to a place where she was undervalued, unappreciated, underestimated, and all because she is a woman? He's only coming to you to take over because she sued him and won, not because in any way he genuinely saw her potential. Stay where you are Katheryn, become a partner at this firm, or start your own later on. Develop and hone your craft, make new contacts of your own, develop your own book of business, and make this happen for you. Don't go back to your dad's sexist firm where you will continue to be undervalued just for being a woman and where your brother can just create any conflicts he wants to and your dad will side with him. Again, please do an update to this video, let it be where she comes out on top.
Yes take your time. With your brother’s attitude There may be big problems. Stay where you are at . They have treated you well and gain some more experience. Maybe try to work on your relationship with your family ( brother especially) and see if it improves. If it doesn’t you may have regrets by accepting to soon. He could cause a lot of problems for you after all he was the chosen one.
Sounds like your father is trying. Take the chance. Do it not for him, but for yourself. You are strong and more than capable, no matter what the odds.
Best to stay where you are appreciated. You've been building up your career with the help of Richard, who trusted you with very important cases. If you went back you would always be fighting to be your own self, not your father's daughter. Also having to regain the creditable to the firm after they lost a substantial one against that firm, them. Nice to finally have acknowledgement from your father but it's a bit late.
Stay where you are for now, but tell father that when he steps back and retires you will step into his shoes. Also warn him you will be a new broom who will immediately sweep out the trash, so you have a clear shot at making the " family firm" truely fit for the modern world and its challenges!

You've established yourself at a firm that took a chance on you. Your talent and bravery and determination are all yours. Move forward, not backward. Build your OWN empire and still be a Mercer. Bravo young lady, Bravo!🎉😊
Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Only go back to take over the company if your father agrees to retire, and dismisses your brother for incompetence.
Good point. Thanks for watching!
Stay where you are! When the time comes, start your own firm!
Never never return to give them the power to hurt you agin…be grateful to rising to where you are valued by a good employer.
Thanks for watching!

Very thoughtful. Thanks for watching!
Also, go and meet the family as part of the decision if there is any doubt . Could you live with your mother and brother ?
as a lawyer? 😂😂😂
Stay with the firm your at. Your father made his choice old fashioned as they were. You can always go on your own later on. 😊

The other commenter is right about conflict of interest. Her mentor and she would have known that. Very good story and unique! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Stay where you are. You’ll have Grant behind you all the time if you go back. Eventually you’ll be able to open your own law firm!
That's a very good point. Thanks for your comment!
If you go back, do it only on the condition that your brother is totally removed from the firm.
Never let anyone disrespect you
Thanks for watching!
Do NOT leave where you are ‼️ Stay where you Are Respected for who & what you are ‼️‼️‼️ You are YOU & a Great You ‼️
And, you definitely showed your father how inept your sorry brother Is ‼️
Come “Back” ????? You Never Were There 😡‼️

Her father kicked her out he has no right to expect her to go back now. I wouldn't go back.
But her childhood dream was to be part of his firm. Tough choice!
Working with her “ incompetent & arrogant “ brother can cause lot of frictions !!!
Stay where you are / might be sad but being your own self being INDEPENDENT !!!
That's a good way of thinking. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for your comment!
Stay where you were appreciated in the beginning!!
Thanks for watching!
If I was in ur shoes I would stay where they treated u respect wanted u there and respect it opinion
She seems torn because she values her family legacy. Thanks for watching!
She should stay at her current job.
Thanks for watching!
Stay where you are…they gave you a chance and you thrived, not only that but your boss had the utmost confidence in your abilities.
Thanks for your comment!
Disrespect will never change. Tell him to park the offer in an unsunlit area
Good point! Thanks for watching!
experience is a great teacher, I learned well
Stay where you are...they saw your worth at the beginning and gave you a chance to succeed ..nice story
Thank you for your comment!

Stay were you are you don't owe the family nothing
Thanks for your comment and for watching!
I would thank my dad, but would stay with the firm that trusts me and shows me loyalty.
That's thoughtful. Thank you for your comment!
Take your time before you answer make sure that’s what you really want! Great story thank you superb!!!!
Thanks for your comment!
Stay where they gave you a chance to prove yourself. You will always have your entitled brother envying you if you go back. Hope for a possible merger in the future.
Thanks for your comment and for watching!

She had achieved personal excellence in her work. No need for anything from the father.
Thank you for your comment!
Stay where you are now. The firm has trusted you regardless of who you are or of your family background. Your current employer had honed and molded you to be a better person into what you are now. Stay where you're valued!
Thanks for watching!
Well done! A great story and no significant flaws. It's so rare, it seems, for quality stories on these channels. The end is a bit wierd.
Thank you so much!
Stay I was in your position once . Build your own legacy.
You asked, so here it is. Stay where you are respected. As you do well, secretly support your Father if he needs it. I am sure that he does. :)
I was thinking along those lines - you beat me to it! 😊
Thank you for your comment!
Best solution is to push her boss to amalgamate Mercer into their present firm. Boss is the head, her father is retired off and Grant eased out.
REALLY! A snide response would have been.. if you send Grant, to work at Burger King.. I'll "think" about it! LOL!!!
Better the devil you know and you should stay where you are and probably become a partner for your betterment. Going back is a no brainer and you will constantly have to deal with Grant who will always be a loser no matter what. All he will manage to do is complicate your life going forward.
Thanks for your comment!
If you go back, Grant's goal in life will ALWAYS be to ruin you. Don't be stupid!
You have grown enough to handle anything and negotiate your own terms
Thanks for your comment and for watching!

Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment!
Stay where you are after a couple of years and more high profile cases start your own firm.
Good strategy. Thank you for your comment!
Good strategy! Thanks for watching.
Prove your greatness to them
Stick to your guns on your own terms and don’t look back
You fought hard to get to where you are, you’re your own person and a strong one go forward and don’t look back period! I would love to know what you decided ! however you do you young lady, good luck!

Wow,a,very good narration, congrats. Intense plot.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nepotism often results in failure or problems, best not working with or for family.
Stay with the company that gave you a chance to thrive. Your brother need help!

Going back to your family's law firm would be a grave mistake now. Stay where you are for now, but I suggest you return to your family's firm in like 10 to 15 years if you decide to. It's your life so live it the best way possible.
Thanks for your input!
Good job she won - would never prove she hadn't deliberately thrown it otherwise
Thanks for watching!
Tell your dad to retire. FIRE GRANT!!! Then run the firm as though it is your very own, because it would be.
Excellect
Thank you!
If you return the very next case that doesn't go your way ( and you won't win them all ) will see both your brother & father turn on you as a 'one hit wonder'.
Thanks for watching!
Very good 😊
Thanks! 😊
If I were you,I’d stay where you’re valued, respected and trusted, you’ve earned your success on your own without your family name with your own merit and determination and to prove yourself capable in everything you set your mind to do, look back only to remind The lessons you’ve learned and keep moving forward to be a better you, this is your life, your happiness, be The best you can be
Thank you!
The father is a true creep. Truly horrible. I wanted to be an architect, change the housing problems in Australia.
Thank you for your comment!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment and Merry Christmas!
Go protect your heritage and legacy
Get rid of the brother!
Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Nope. Stay, Lady.
Thank you for watching!
If i were going to continue to be myself I'd stay where i am. You could end up running the firm you are with
Thank you for your comment!
Good point. Thanks for your comment!
Sounds like your father is trying. Take the chance. Do it not for him, but for yourself. You are strong and more than capable, no matter what the odds.
I think you're the first person in the comments defending this view. Interesting! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
I would stay with the firm that recognized by ability and believed in me.
Sounds fair. Thank you for watching!
Stay where you are for now, but tell father that when he steps back and retires you will step into his shoes. Also warn him you will be a new broom who will immediately sweep out the trash, so you have a clear shot at making the " family firm" truely fit for the modern world and its challenges!
Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Go back & join your father's law firm & you will be happy to help your dad he is very proud of you
Thanks for your comment!
She had to learn, not expect recognition as they do not change, will not accept her.
Thank you for your comment!
Stay where u are and start your own law firm
