I used your system and sprinkled some red amaranth seeds. Put the container on a heat mat set at 80 F. They germinated in 3 days. Thanks for showing this simple method.
Very happy customer here, I ordered some aji chaparrita seeds and got more then I could’ve asked for! Thank you so much, very excited to start growing!
Just got my Aji dulce seeds from you!! Don’t have a heat mat or fine vermiculite, so my 1st packet of seeds will be an experiment. I live in AZ and we are getting rain tonight and tomorrow!! Dsnt happen very often so I planted my first pack on top of seed starter pods and layered 1/4” with sand and perlite. It might be totally wrong but it’s what I have today & I really wanted to take advantage of the rain. Tomorrow, I will go to Lowe’s to get the mat & vermiculite for the 2nd round of the pepper experiment. Really appreciate all the extra work u put in for us trying to grow peppers successfully for the first time. I make something called “sofrito” and have yet to see aji dulce peppers in ANY Asian or Latin market anywhere in the US( except Miami), so I’m super excited for these little guys to grow and give me lots of peppers. Thanks again!!
@@RefiningFireChiles Thank u!just got my yellow aji dulce seeds from you. No sprouts yet from my first experiment so I’m all in to do your way with these yellow seeds. Hoping I’m not starting too late for the AZ growing season!
@@RefiningFireChiles THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 💯 germination on EVERY single aji dulce seed- both yellows and red seeds. Also, used my crazy seed pod experiment as well as ur vermiculite method. Every seed germinated!!! Can’t tell u thank u enough! Keeping fingers crossed that they will grow well in the upcoming AZ summer temps. Will never order chili seeds from anyone else!! Thank you!!
Thank you for the tips! I normally plant modest quantities of many kinds of pepper plants, but much of what you are doing would work well for my grow pattern too, I'd just separate varieties into small 6-cell trays with little tags to identify each cell. I think the vermiculite would work well for me too, and I also like to have 1/4" above the seeds to reduce the occurrence of helmet head. Right now I start 50 seeds of 12-18 varieties per batch.
I've even grown inside in a little styro cup with part Vermiculite, peat, perlite and fed floragrow and from there I transplanted to soil and put outside.
Wow this video is packed with great info. My coworker gave me seeds that are super hot chilies . I was just going to throw them In a damp napkin in a bag on a heating pad and hope for the best. I’m going to purchase some vermiculite just like yours . Thank you so much . New sub
Hadn't seen you post in so long! Good to see you back at it, nice tip for bulk germination, had not heard of chamomile tea for that before, thanks man.
Thanks Jim. I got a lot of seeds from you this year. I'm going to start next week getting them germinating. Hopefully I'll have some good plants this year and won't have to buy the FRSB. :)
If you're trying to germinate super-hots and they're taking a quite a while (over ten days), should you continue to keep them at the second stage, where you have gently lifted up the corner over the container to let some air in, until they have started to sprout? Can you keep them at that stage for a couple weeks? Thanks!
@tomneal72 tea soak only a suggestion. One cup full strength to two or three cups water. Best pre soak for seeds is using Gibberelic acid. Found on Amazon.
Super hots like he is growing is harder to germ in soil. Believe me, i have lost at least a hundred expensive seeds. Going to try this method on a small scale to see if my seeds will germinate. Mine aren’t even coming up in soil while on a heat mat.
Sand works and is far cheaper. Those containers without drainage holes is likely to be too damp. Requires very manual watering and draining. Double cup method works far better for optimum watering and drainage.
@eastcoast4233 if you were aware then why mention draining holes? Why mention double cup method? This was a video to help people sprout seeds not develop seedings into larger plants with root systems. So sorry your offended but your comment did not apply to my video.
I use diluted fish emulsion and kelp. Also Bat Guano tea. And if you want to keep it simple 50% diluted Miracle Grow. Feed every two weeks at most. Seedlings dont need a lot of food.
I think in bullets * Cover tight * After 5 days open for air, tighten again or loose? * or loose only when sprouts begin to pop? * because after 4 days I have mounds rising but no pops * ???
I am looking everywhere for the magic tea mixture that you speak of. I don't have chamomile, just black. What is the recipe? Online I can only find it for chamomile. Thanks!
Rule n.1: Never do germination in covered containers/bags whatever with no airflow. Seeds are fully soaked in water in the medium. They aren't growing so... the air humidity ABOVE is absolutely irrelevant. Actually it is relevant... if you want to grow mold...

You can have corner up after first few days regardless cause you need to get some air in.
Thanks Jim! Very cool way to start seeds. 😎
After 4-5 days, when you open the corner and let some air in, do you leave a little air hole or shut it back tight again until they sprout?
I open a crack in beginning then a little more once they sprout.
going to try this. Thanks. When do you remove the container from the heat mat?
Lower temps first then remove. Gradually change the environment.
You're the man Jim!
What temp is your heat mat on ? Great video, thank you!😊
Thermostat controlled 82-85 f

Hi the 1 cup camomile tea to how many ml water ?

Couldn't these peppers grow naturally in potting soil? Are they so delicate? Anyway, I will order your suggestions, thank you

Can you sprout 🍅 this way?!
Yes
At what point do i stop watering them with the Tea-mix? After i put in soil?
You can water with tea first week or so after occasionally to prevent fungal issues.
Thank you
Will this work for watermelon seeds?? 🍉
Yes any seeds
I just tried this and my Baha Goats sprouted in 8 days.
Hi jim,is it alright to give fish fertilizer to seedlings at that stage? Thanks
Wait a week

Pay attention this is just to sprout not to grow. Once sprouted transplant to soil pots.

when will you learn to spell chilies ?
It's spelled Chiles and they all originated in Latin America. Not the restaurant or Europe.
