Had a brand new 86 4 Runner (Blue) 4x4 - senior year of high school !!! this brings back so many memories of taking that top off - cruising on those beautiful warm days and nights! Turning the radio up - awesome 80s tunes - packed with good friends - little did I know then - how great life was! Would love to go back for a few days. Thanks for posting!
What year is your Runner? I have an 85, and my doors do not have those clevis pins! I take my doors off, but I have to unbolt the hinge from the body. I'm wondering if I can alter the hinge or find old ones with the clevis pin. hmmm.
I hadn't watched the rest of your video yet. You show how to do it a bit later. Thanks. You should re-title the video or make it a new one that focuses on just altering the door hinge. Great little trick.
Today was my first time take out the hard top and when I put back the top my rear window not working and before that was working what u think is the problem
it was just a standard gutter mount rack system off amazon. the product doesnt exist anymore on amazon as i bought it 5 years ago but any "gutter mount" system will be the same concept.
I used a double pin double throw switch that i got off amazon. I wired it directly to the window regulator and bypassed all the factory relays and switches. Window regulators just use reversed polarity to make the window go up or down. I just tapped into an existing 12 volt source under the dash for the power.
We should rally up bro. We got sick forbys Edit ** Nephew passed his Ls on Friday, and rolled my baby yesterday. 2 weeks after my initial comment. Damn jinxed it.
I did this with power windows, I bought some two wire connectors from Lowe’s and just spliced them in. The only thing I had to do was cut the OEM door pins and punch them out. Since these pins are pressed in
like take this out but not really . Like I made those . Not really Like take these bolts out and undo these . But I don't have mine that way like for some reason . lmao just giving you a hard time. Thanks for the info.
@@blainevantine1634 i was really only ever able to get above 75 mph on a downhill stretch. The 22re isnt really a high HP motor. You could maybe add a turbo. They did come stock with a turbo in a couple years.
@@blainevantine1634 where are you located? when i was at sea level (CA) it wasnt that bad. once i moved to 5700ft (CO) i couldt do it anymore. some people swap a 3.4 out of a later model 4runner to give much more modern power.

Thanks for the video!! I have an 86 4runner. Been wanting to do the same. I know how to do it but wanted to see how someone else did it. Thanks!! 😝🤘
Cool idea...
Rolling those bolts out works pretty good too
Thanks for sharing this, may I ask what wheels are on your 4runner, please?
They are 16in American racing wheels with 32x11.5 tires

Mine is an 87. Hopefully the video helped u make urs easier to remove!
I have an 86 turbo sr5 with power door locks and power windows. I'm going to try this.

There is a safety switch look at your bolts one should be longer not sure where it goes towards the back i think
tnx for the video!
I have 1986 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What kind of rack system do you have?

@@myles2go. is it bolted down?
@@kainoamahoe253 it is not bolted through. these gutter style racks bolt around a rain gutter on the sides of your roof.
@@myles2go. do you still have that truck?
@@kainoamahoe253 no, i actually sold it maybe a year ago now.
make the video of the window switch please!!!
I actually did make a switch for it. But it bypasses a lot of the factory stuff. Let me know if you still want to see that
@@myles2go. did you run your own wire to the original switch on the console?

What about the seal can I re use it?
I had that roof on and off 10-15 times and never replaced the seal. It never leaked.

Way easier to just remove the 4 bolts on the doors
Just remove your hinges bottom to top. Same with home doors.
My aunt used to have own a Toyota four runner just like this one

Does anyone know how to go above 75 in these things?
what do you mean by this? are you wanting to lift the entire truck (front and rear) above 75 inches?
Did you mean 75 mph perhaps?

I guess you could call that quick release although it wasnt quick
The door has a pin and you’re using a hammer and punch to get it loose. How is that easier than a Jeep?
the first statement was sarcastic the second time (after my modifications) i meant it. now all you have to do is pull two pins out. no tools required
Nothing is easier or faster then removing the doors on a Jeep CJ, period..
Cut the pins?! Not easier than jeep
I plan on getting one and I thought I was going to have to cut the top off
oh no, its way easier! haha
Not stock dork!
No s*** sherlock.... lol
That’s not easier than my Jeep lol
What gages are those
they are cheap electronic water temp gauges from o rileys. I do not remember the brand and i dont have the 4runner anymore.
