PS. Living with chronic pain is very tiring. Its like going through life carrying a heavy burden on your back. Pain free people find it hard to understand this. You are coping brilliantly.
Well done Vivi, your positive attitude and determination are an inspiration. So sorry you are still suffering with your knee but my goodness how well you are coping with it. I hope the surgeon can sort it out, meanwhile the swimming will help tremendously. And soon be spring and planting time, can't wait!
I’m watching this in 2021. Swimming in the sea is so invigorating. My family had a caravan and my childhood was spent in Pagham just out side Bognor Regis. My grandad was an amazing sea swimmer and had all us grandchildren in the sea with him. Loved it xx
Awesome. That was a brilliant idea to search where you can reduce. Enjoy your swimming. Great idea for the knees and the reward for the clear mind. Thank you for the lovely positive message.
Everything you said resonated with me. I can apply it to my situation and my recovery. Thanks for the pep talk! Sorry about the state of your knee at this time. With positive attitudes and enthusiasm for the future, together we can all forge ahead and make positive changes and outcomes in all our lives. Crack on!
Very inspiring! The positivity you have is really infectious. I too really must make 2018 the year that I get some big things sorted. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with your health and strength plans :) x
Great!! You have found the secret in feeling better that I have learned. Each of us has to figure out what is best for us at our state in life and Do It. Nobody else is going to accomplish it for us. We have to take responsibility and Do It. For me it was eating healthy and losing weight and a whole new world was opened to me. I am now able to enjoy my passion for gardening and walking 30 minutes everyday. Really enjoy your videos and look forward to the next one. Take care.
This is amazing!! You look all bright and energized, really inspiring to see:). And it's very relatable - I used to love running too, but had to stop at the ripe old age of 18 because of chronic knee injuries (a precursor to my Fibromyalgia, in hindsight). While you were talking I kept thinking 'GO SWIMMING!' and then to hear you say it I was like 'YESSS':). I have a discount pass too and get to swim for practically free. Sadly, swimming to me is so boring that I don't go nearly as much as I should. BUT I bought a racing bike last year and it turns out I get that amazing, meditative freedom feeling from cycling. So bring it on spring - go us!!
Its so lovely to see you excited about something lol. Im so sorry about the issue with your knee. My knee is very painful atm too (i think the weather is contributing) do keep us updated on what they say at your appointment. Im a long way off surgery (i hope) but the time will eventually come for me too so im very interested in your journey with it. Great update vivi :)
Good news about the active card.... Don't forget Vivi, the benefit that you were offered is an ENTITLEMENT... you have contributed and you should have the support now especially when your knees are creaking ... I was exactly the same didn't claim anything until I was really struggling ( 2 failed back surgeries NHS has a lot to answer for! ) ... I don't get a lot , being a home owner we don't , but it helps eek things out until I can get access to the pension I should have got 4 years ago!! ( Don't get me started ! Yes I am a WASPI) ... I too lost my mobility and fitness... you never know the minute.. swimming is brilliant!! Keep moving, keep smiling my friend! It's life Jim but not as we planned it!
Thanks for the pep talk just what I needed .... I spend so much time looking after others in my job and at home I neglect myself and the thinks I want to do ..... I have a day off today and am going to start planning .... a bit of time for me doing nice things, chores and like you I need to work on my fitness ... yesterday I was diagnosed as having osteoarthritis which I was reassured this is better than having rheumatoid arthritis so I continue on my journey of loosing weight with that in my mind. Then there's my mind ... time to give me sometime too 😁 here's to a great 2018 it's looking good so far xx
I understand exactly what you mean about being at peace in the water. I really enjoyed watching your enthusiasm bubble over, so Thank you for sharing the ups and downs of your journey thus far.
You go girl!! ✊️ I saw something last week that said the date was 92nd January!!!! Certainly feels like a long month 😂 Your new focus will see you through to the warmer days on the lotty 😉🌱👍
Empowered Viv, that's the word you wanted. Hope it's catching as I could do with some too. Must be the time of year, as I have been writing long lists of things to get sorted. Glad everything thing is coming together you are such a positive person and an inspiration. Had a nice morning at the allotment sun was shining so now I'm feeling a spring in my step. Just need to keep motivated as I'm easily destracted. Have fun swimming xx
That's exactly the word I was trying to fetch up from the dark recesses of my mind - thank you! So glad you had a morning with a hint of sunshine.......it's amazing how a bit of garden time combined with a glimpse of sun can make one feel so wonderful again! Good on you. :-)
Aww Viv u have made my day :) your positive yeahs make me smile and when ive watched u i feel i can take on the world .well my garden at least lol.So happy for u and good luck with the swimming lessons .Hope u have a brill week ,hugs Deb x
My Mantra 'I can and I WILL' has got me into so much trouble over the years... Go vivi... I remember commenting to you at the beginning... You will manage... and you ARE.... and you WILL.
January IS a great 'taking stock and organizing' month.. I have been doing the same thing. So glad your little Be Fit card is opening doors for you! I joined a health and fitness club and am taking a water exercise class. Great minds think alike ! 😉 Woo Hoo!
Glad to see you are taking care of yourself. I do know how it feels to have been healthy and active and then had to slow down because of health problems. About 3 years ago, I came down with a rare immune disorder that stopped me in my tracks. I lost 40 pounds and was weak as a kitten. It took over a year for my doctors to figure out just what the problem was and the only thing they could offer me were steroids and off-label cancer drugs. I took the steroids because I couldn't function but refused the cancer drugs because of the side effects. I finally got off the prednisone but, by then, my arthritis had gotten so bad that I am only able to walk a few blocks without sever pain. What I chose to do was yoga acupuncture. There is a wonderful video on youtube called "Yoga for Seniors: The Whole Body with Michelle Rubin". It's a whole body workout that doesn't put any strain on your knees or back. It also doesn't assume that you are some feeble old lady, either, just that you have some physical limitations. I could only do half at first, but within a week I was doing a whole hour. It's also really good for keeping your spirits up. So, think about it if it's rainy and cold and you just don't feel like making the trip to the pool.
2-3 weeks pain free after a major knee op seems optimistic to me .. from experience from the rugby club I volunteer for, it takes at least 6-8 weeks for the knee to start to heal, so be patient. I can understand the frustration. I also do not have a wage as I had to stop working 2 years ago due to serious depression. I found my outlet in my garden and I'm lucky I have a partner who earns the money.
YES, Vivi, I am a swimmer, just about to go there. I've been swimming for 12 years now and swim 1 kilometre every 4 days. I started out doing 100 metres, then 500 metres and now the 1 kilometre. I find it very meditative and it is just as important for positive thinking with release of "feel good" chemicals.
I love my home garden & my involvement with my local community garden as a plot holder & board member has made me wonder about balance. Especially when I socialize & realize after that all I had to talk about was, what's growing & what I hope to grow, & what I did with what I grew!!
Sounds like a great plan Vivi! I’m sorry your surgery recovery hasn’t gone as well as you’d hoped. I know from experience that living with chronic pain is very difficult and can be overwhelming at times. I think swimming sounds like a great way to get some exercise. I have always loved to swim and my grandmother was a swim teacher so she taught me and all my cousins when we are very young. I’m also working on getting more fit and loosing some weight. And this weekend my dad is going to help me make my first ever raised bed for my garden. Im so excited because my in ground garden is so small and now I’ll have that plus my raised bed and can grow and lot more.
What Vivi did next Thanks! I think it will be fun. Neither of us have built a garden bed before but I did a lot of research so hopefully we can do it right.
Don't feel badly Vivi - I am the world's biggest procrastinator!!! Then I hate myself later for allowing my procrastination to win over and I haven't gotten things accomplished. It's so wonderful about your news of reduced taxes and use of the public pool - will make your body feel oh so much better, clear the mind to better be able to keep things in perspective. In my area in the States, people can sign up for reduced annual electricity billing when on no or a reduced income - just have to qualify for it(and no not a dog and pony dance!!!). I don't know about the U.K., but will have to say just to keep asking around then you may find other areas of benefits for reductions and discounts that you may not have even thought of. You are certainly entitled. As other commentors have stated, your enthusiasm is infectious and uplifting for others that may be going through much the same. Just know many others watching your channel are rooting for you and supporting you all the way.
Oh Kathy, thank you so much for your lovely, kind words. I am always inspired by folk's generosity in not just watching these videos but in taking the time to comment too. Gold stars to you all. :-)
Procrastinating ...... a 'new' word for me learned :-) You go woman, you can do motivating talks! Inspiring. I have to tackle repairing (partly) a rather long fence tomorrow. Will do, no excuses! Take care with your knees, maybe not asking too much of them? Like Tapies too.
What a fabulous idea! I'm moving house and watching your video I was procrastinating too. I'm surrounded by stuff which needs doing and its easy to feel overwhelmed. Then you just want to curl up in the duvet and sulk! I got so fed up yesterday when a workman we paid £250 to remove our garden waste just disappeared with the money but without the rubbish that I ate a whole tub of ice cream!! What was all that about? My back is now hurting again, another £43 at the osteopath! I wish we lived closer to each other, then we could stick our faces in a tub of ice cream together,(and then go swimming?) Thanks for sharing the tough bits as well as the triumphs. Loads of love.
An ice cream session sounds like a wonderful idea (can't remember the last time I had ice cream!).......plus the swim of course! Hope the house move/sorting/packing goes smoothly...... :-)
That's fab news about your pool discount Vivi. I swim 4-5 times a week and absolutely love it. For the crawl I often use a pull buoy which is one of those shaped floats you hold between the knees - if you're finding the crawl kick sore on your knees then I'd recommend you get one, they're only about a fiver. It's also easier to swim for longer with the pull buoy, as it keeps you flat on the surface of the water with less drag. Good luck with the lessons, you'll be flying up and down in the pool in no time.
Hi Vivi, I was wondering what your Ebay name was but just read it in another comment. Can't wait to see what you make and sell. I have been selling on Ebay for 10 plus years thanks to the encouragement of my son. I love it!! I make little art quilts and get one listed every week. I have sew almost 60 yrs (I'm 69 now). My Ebay name is "quiltsbyjer" I only sell in the US but you might could have a look at them. I wish you luck on your adventure, and so love your videos. Your enthusiasm is so good for all of us. Such a positive attitude, keep it up.
Hi Vivi, regarding water butts we get blue barrels from car wash places (they hold detergent). Then make a hole and buy a water butt tap from the local garden centre. I miss running too. Take care.
V - your excitement is awesome. Healing takes time and anything to do to reduce inflammation will help with some of that pain. 20 minutes ice followed by 20 minutes heat works well.
Yay for swimming! Sounds like a great plan. I love being in the water. Hopefully it will help build the muscles that support your knees and give you some pain relief. I wonder if cycling would be good as well? It's easier on the knees than running, but would give you that feeling of freedom you enjoyed outdoors. (I always hated running, but cycle 80-100 miles a week in the warmer months.)
Hahahaha - after that cycle ride my sister took me on for my 50th birthday (up the hills to the vineyard in Nice)which nearly gave me a cardiac event......hmmmmm......maybe I'll just start with the swimming for now! ;-)
Great news about the swimming. Knee problems here too and I find swimming painful so was recommended to walk in the water instead..it's helped my fitness so very much!! So you don't always need to actually 'swim' :-) .
Your love of life makes my heart soar,it reminds me of myself years ago.I loved loved swimming but alas with the Arthritis the pools are freezing to me,and I cannot dress myself completely now,but the memories of complete freedom of moving through the water is still a joy to think about now.February is going to be frightening and stressful as my big boy is going for major op again.I'm also going to have op for golfers elbow, might put it off until winter,I'm nervous as its at lewisham hospital,my tennis elbow and shoulder release was done at kings, which worked fine.I would love to buy your recipe book if you do one(huge carnivores here with the men)but I would love to try vegetarian meals for me as I'm going off meat more and more ,but I haven't a clue how.
Gosh, that's a big month coming up for you all. I'll be thinking of you and sending positive, healing vibes. I'd offer to take you swimming and help with the dressing....but that might be a bit 'blind leading the blind'...... Take care lovely. Deep breaths for the coming month. X
A lovely natural range of calendula skin products would be nice as a extra income, you already have a large following,I am almost sure that some of us would gladly buy some of that lovingly prepared lotion etc. Sell it online, and ship. :)
You have to forgive me ,but as you speak I get this deluge of ideas, I just had to share with you.I also started my own business after giving up my job some years ago,,best thing I ever did.I feel so privileged living this creative life and all in my own time. Good for you for getting off the rat race, play every day with what ever you choose. Much love from Capetown xx
It really has been liberating in so many different ways.......I'm thoroughly enjoying life and living it true to myself. Good on you too. :-) Hoping you're not too fried down in Capetown. Have a wonderful day. :-)
I am the same way with procrastination. As you said, the stress of not getting things done takes more energy than just doing them! I am down with flu at the moment, but making lists! Lots to do with the flower farm I'm starting this year along with my full-time employment as a commercial landscape designer. Let's do this!
Beginning of the video I smiled - I procrastinate like nobody's business. And I would love to live on the allotment - apart from being away from hubby and the kids anyway :)
So sorry that your knees are healing slow, swimming will get you into shape. It is great for using all your muscles! Try water aerobic classes if you have them, they are a fun addition to laps. Looks like the la Nina is going to hold on and keep the Pacific northwest dark and wet for a while longer😐 I really miss that orb in the sky! Have an awesome evening Vivi!😆
The health and fitness is the key. I had knee problems and joint problems because I was too heavy. I lost 14 kilos by walking and low carb. I can fit my clothes sent a ton tot the charity shop it’s a transformation. Now I look forward to hills and steep steps up to temples. Swimming is a brilliant idea.
I'm so happy for your pool/swimming access! I've been going through a sort of personal hell on earth for a few years now due to many things....mostly, my Dad passing on due to ALS. I feel just as you've described....I've let my fitness, health, and weight go berserk. Honestly, I haven't really "let it" go...I've tried to eat right and keep walking/treading, but it's just "went" anyway. You have inspired me to pull up my big girl panties (knickers? ;) ) and get it together! I'm across the Pond, cheering you on!! Swim Vivi, Swim! (and PS....Years ago my Dad put in a pool at he and my Mom's house. She can't keep it up due to her health, but maybe this summer my family can open it up and I can get back to swimming, too!!!)
Yeah!!!!!!! Do it lovely........that would be a great tribute to your dad......and I'm sure your mum would get a kick out of seeing family splashing in there once more. XXX
You go Vivi, swimming is good for your knees. You can gentle develop muscles and also keep the sinews and stuff loose. And using the money for swimming lessons is a wonderful thing to do in the memory of your gran. *hugs*
Love the idea of getting the least appetizing job done first then the reward of some 'plotting' it works for me ! You probably know this but whilst swimming is excellent do avoid the breaststroke leg movements - not great for the knees :) If the card allows gym access then try the exercise bike , really good for the knee as not weight bearing. I do it as I have had knee Op too (though not as serious as yours ). Glad you are feeling more positive . Good luck for your appointment tomorrow . x
Thank you lovely.......I think I can get access to the gym but I would have to pay (a reduced amount)......I love weight lifting......but I think I might be sad to go to the gym and not be able to run..... I'll see how the swimming goes to start with. I really want to learn a good front crawl (one that will serve me well in the sea too)......hopefully not too much leg action..... Can't wait! :-)
Yeah time does go to quickly these days I know what you mean... And yes last year when I got the allotment I was nearly forgetting to go home and feed the family lol the house needed my attention too
The only way is up eh? Hoping your year gets off to a great start too.......the end of last year was rubbish for you.....thank goodness that's behind you now! :-)
an amazing video. so inspirational. swimming is the best exercise. just wish i could inspire myself to go back to the gym. unfortunately PD takes away your will to do anything but watching your videos has given me hope, than you Vivi xx
Ach, Susan, that's tough. :-( Do you have someone you can go with....a gym buddy?I think sometimes it helps to motivate as you don't want to let the other person down...... I hope you can get back there soon. X
Great update and lesson in planning and getting jobs done... Just tidied the attic here ... Lol good luck with the selling. If you're looking for seed, give me a shout, I've a lot here ...Take care and mind yourself, Hugh
Good for you girl, what a brilliant idea that won't stress or strain your knees, and great cardio workout. I suffered heart failure almost four ago, recovering from that I strained my back lifting, so I know how that effects your fitness long term. This year I'm back to my plot all guns blazing with a pep talk from you lol. Take care and enjoy x
Thank you, and tomorrow could be my last echocardiogram if alls well. My heart is healing itself, unbelievable. No need to reply, take care lovely lady x
Also wanted to add, sometimes knees take time. I blew out both of my knees running and skiing as a teen. Many years later they are fine now. I didn't have surgery - but almost. Water therapy will definitely help! And I feel ya when you say you miss running, I really do too! :-/ Chin up, this too shall pass ;-)
Vivi, you should do a Nike commercial. They coined the phrase back in 1988 "Just do it". It so fits your energy and inspirational attitude. I too have noticed that the garden rest periods are getting longer and longer and the strength level is diminishing. At my age I'm just trying to hang on to what I have as long as I can. I either use it or lose it so they say. I'm in fairly good shape still but it only takes one incident to have a major set back. I'm learning from my cousins and friends that knee replacement is not necessarily the answer. Flexibility it greatly reduced. I'm not going that route. I'm hanging on to my God made knees. I understand that for some like my cousin the pain was intolerable and it had to be done. She is pain free now but her ability to do things has been greatly limited. She struggles with weight as well because of limited exercise. It's a tough decision to make. It all depends on how much pain is involved. Even though I have an extremely bad knee that is bone on bone with a tendon missing, there's amazingly no pain. I'm not sure why but I'm just grateful. I too have a long list of things to get finished. It's hard to get motivated in the dreary Winter months. Have a great day and thanks for always being so inspiring to us all. Nebraska Dave
I don't know if your pool offers water aerobics classes and I know people turn up noses at it, but they are really really great exercise with low to no body impact. So good for people with knee and back issues. Plus they are actually pretty fun.
Just saw this and couldn't resist giving it a watch. I've often referred to myself as the Procrastination Queen. How have things changed since you taped this one? Do you have procrastinating under control pretty much?
Hmmm....let me get back to you tomorrow on that one. Hahaha. I've got much better.....setting clearer goals.....and slightly less goals per day so I don't feel overwhelmed before I even start. I think a lot of procrastination comes about when we feel overwhelmed.... 😊
Hi Vivi ! Go, go, go! :) I think, Ken & Marty Retire is/are right: Take the money that you have a right to get. Why not? You can do all the other things: Selling, sowing, etc., too... You have a great attitude! Maybe it would be even more ensuring, if a second doctor would take a look on your left knee? Best wishes! And tx for your great videos.
I'd rather leave the money in the 'pot' for someone in genuine need. :-) Yes, I'll see what the consultant says tomorrow and maybe have it looked into if no decent answers come..... Thank you. :-)
Hi Vivi...Well I've had my surgery. Allow me to introduce to Ms. 1 out of ten. Somehow, during surgery they managed to fracture my femur. Can you emagine that! Now I'm laid up here in a nursing home for up to six weeks! I sure didn't see this coming. Oh, and they didn't discover my problem for a full week, a full week of terrible pain for me. Nightmare!!! Blessings dear
Oh my goodness....you poor thing. I'm so sorry to hear this........that you were in all that pain breaks my heart for you. I hope, at least, the pain is now under control....... Ugh. I will stop complaining about mine in light of yours. I so hope your healing goes well............big hugs. :-(
Good for you :-) enjoy your swimming lessons. You could make Dog Bed's; there costly in the pet stores. So I go to charity shops pick up old blankets and duvet's disinfect them, and make dog beds :-) just a thought. I make list's all the time and work down them, some I do put off but most of the time I just take a deep breath and plough into it.take care. :-) oxo
Ooooh, dog beds is a fantastic idea!!!! I made Charlotte Brontes bed years back.......and I know tons of dog owners still........fab! Thank you - why didn't I think of this before!!!???? Brilliant. :-)
Hi Vivi, thanks for your videos. I love them very much, as well as your enthousiastic personality. Have you looked into fascia training? The Body Mechanic on facebook explains it really well. I had the same experience with knee trouble not getting better post-op. Exercises like Sarah's did the trick for me. Hope this helped! All the best from Germany
I have tons of herb seeds I'm not likely to use, let me know if you'd be interested in them and I'll dig them out of storage if so :) I know so well the feeling of losing fitness. I really should get back to that myself, it's so important when we have borked bodies to keep the bits working as well as they can. Your local Be Active scheme may also do a similar thing for their gym, if they do then I highly recommend the handcycle for a good cardio workout that doesn't ruin the knees.
That's so very kind of you to offer but I have actually just been given a load by a neighbour.....not sure what's amongst them yet but it looks like more than enough for me to be getting on with.......but thank you for offering. :-)
Well done viv a few things have changed for me as well I'm ill so opened up just a few more possabiltys for me to .glad your feeling better .could you do a video on ebay ? :-).thanks .
I hope your changes are going ok and you're able to cope with them. Hopefully you have some good people around you to support you and give you heaps of love. :-)
are you on a water meter? if so have you applied for your water saving pack from the water company. Also can do things like flushing toilet with water from your bath or washing up.
I don't have a meter......it can't be fitted unfortunately. I already use my bath water to flush the loo/water house plants/clean the floor etc......can't bare waste! ;-)
Och, you’re having a shitty time with your knees Vivi but as always, you turn a negative into a positive. GOOD FOR YOU GIRL! Sending you lots and lots of love. 💋
Swimming will be great for your knees ive just started swimming again as i struggle with my knees and back and it did feel great. As gor procrastination i am terrible for it so i feel your pain i tried some EFT tapping which really helped. Enjoy your swimming 🏊
Go Vivi! Swimming -- brilliant! Looking for additional $ in creative ways -- brilliant. The knees, bummer. If you're already bone-on-bone, it may just be time to replace. My cousin at 50 sought double replacement. She was no longer functioning physically. Dr not want to do so young, and both at same time; but she kept insisting and an excellent surgeon took her on. She did her physio religiously and within a month walking without pain of any sort! You do have to care for the replacements; but she says would do again. I wish you well! Finally, procrastination -- the bane of creative people. So Go Vivi! Work that list . . .
So glad it all turned out well in the end for your Cousin. I think I can manage for quite a bit longer before that stage - fingers crossed. In the meantime there's fun to be had! :-)
Wow Vivi, that's fantastic that you can get a reduction. It would never happen here in PA. The only way to have them reduce anything you pay(owe), you have to be unemployed, and then you don't pay the $52.00 a year, for the right to work tax, and you don't pay the 2% tax, that is for a separate local tax. But as for sewer tax, refuse tax, real estate tax and school tax, you pay until you either don't own property anymore or you are dead! Though, I will say, here in Pennsylvania, veterans do not pay tax on their property. Now for my dad, who lives in NJ and he is a WWII vet, IF NJ offered that, he would save about $6,500.00 a year in real estate (property) tax. Sorry to hear about your knees. Do a little bit, and do it often. :-) Happy Gardening! Catherine
Enjoying my cup of (homemade) elderberry tea with you this morning. If like me you've been working for 30 odd years for the NHS, never claimed a benefit in your life, why wouldn't you claim what you're entitled to now? (Just think of it as a return on the 14% pay cut we've had over the past couple of years!) That money would help pay to go swimming (in the sea) more often, or yoga, or pilates...all those things that will help your fitness and flexibility. And do you have a water meter 😉 that will cut your costs too. So love your enthusiasm 😗 from one procrastinator to another 🙄 M.
Unfortunately I can't have a water meter here (configuration problem apparently - so frustrating!). Mmmmm, elderberry tea....a good way to procrastinate. ;-)
Hi Vivi, have you tried mindfulness exercises?, I've found them really beneficial, especially for controlling my moods before they control me. Excellent for controlling pain as well. There's loads of free stuff on UA-cam. All the best. Stay well. 🌻
I still owe "poll tax" courtesy of Mrs Thatcher. As a holiday/work visa holder, I had to pay something. I rang up the council to found out what to pay. They said they didn't know what I owed and please don't ring again. That was the 90s.
good on ya girl you go for it ;-) Ref your learning a new stroke I would go for breaststroke done properly you will get much more joint movement and you can go as fast or as slow as you like ,Front crawl as we used to call it requires your head in the in the water for more comfort and without goggles you wont see other swimmers ect ect ;-)
I wanted to say something like this to you before but me saying it, came off bitchy and negative (lol). I thought you were talking about gardening way too early, you and the garden should rest in winter, at least a month or 2. Yes seeds must be bought and plans should be made, but being a procrastinator myself, I could see the signs. Making money was way on your back burner. What about all the things you wanted to do during recovery...writing? sewing?, its the perfect time. But what do I know, just because you don't talk about it, I'm sure youre doing other things. So you straightened yourself out and gave us all a great pep talk. I wouldn't let them touch your rt knee until you can do everything with your left , because you'll be on only your left. Swimming is great if you can deal with the chlorine. Enjoy. ps. I was thinking about you and your sewing, should be selling on ESTY.
Hahaha - I've been doing loads of sewing - I've been thoroughly enjoying it and myriad other projects besides... The thing about gardening and doing stuff too early is tricky......I spoke at length with my doctors and physiotherapy team both before and after the surgery about what I should and shouldn't be doing.....and they all wanted me back to normal activity after a couple of weeks......of course, I explained what my 'normal' is (ie; gardening), and they all agreed I should get back to it ASAP. Oh well, just have to wait and see what the docs say tomorrow......
PS. Living with chronic pain is very tiring. Its like going through life carrying a heavy burden on your back. Pain free people find it hard to understand this. You are coping brilliantly.
Thanks Marie. :-)
Your enthusiasm is just infectious, thank you Vivi!
Awww.....cheers Vivki. Have a fabulous day. :-)
Awesome update thank you for sharing have a blessed dayVivi
Thanks Linda. Have a great day. :-)
Hi Vivi, Your one hell of a gutsy lady, GO FOR IT.
Cheers Ronald! :-)
Well done Vivi, your positive attitude and determination are an inspiration. So sorry you are still suffering with your knee but my goodness how well you are coping with it. I hope the surgeon can sort it out, meanwhile the swimming will help tremendously. And soon be spring and planting time, can't wait!
Wooohooooo to spring and warmth and light again! :-)
I’m watching this in 2021. Swimming in the sea is so invigorating. My family had a caravan and my childhood was spent in Pagham just out side Bognor Regis. My grandad was an amazing sea swimmer and had all us grandchildren in the sea with him. Loved it xx
Oh how lovely....what fabulous memories...... 😊
Awesome. That was a brilliant idea to search where you can reduce. Enjoy your swimming. Great idea for the knees and the reward for the clear mind. Thank you for the lovely positive message.
I'm beyond excited to get into that pool......so glad it's worked out this way. :-)
Everything you said resonated with me. I can apply it to my situation and my recovery. Thanks for the pep talk! Sorry about the state of your knee at this time. With positive attitudes and enthusiasm for the future, together we can all forge ahead and make positive changes and outcomes in all our lives. Crack on!
Abso-bloomi'-lutely! Go us! :-)
So proud of you, my across the pond, "sister"! This vid is amazingly beautiful :) I often think our brains rub elbows...lol! Hugs :)
Hahahaha - so that's the bump I felt in my brain.....it was my elbow jutting out and rubbing yours. :-)
Very inspiring! The positivity you have is really infectious. I too really must make 2018 the year that I get some big things sorted. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with your health and strength plans :) x
Woohoo - go us! :-)
Take care.
Thank you Charlotte......and well done on finding what was right for you. Hurrah for our gardens. :-)
It's so great you have found something that not only helps your health but that you really enjoy too! Good on you :-)
Lots of luck Vivi and great for being so proactive. Gilly x
Thanks Gilly. :-)
I'm SO excited for you Vivi! You go girl!! You are very inspirational as well. So glad I found you!
Yay! And I'm glad you found me too. :-)
Cheers Amanda....yes, I think the cold and damp don't help. I'll keep you posted re what my consultant says..... :-)
Hahahahaha - spot on lovely! ;-)
YOU ARE LOOKING GREAT VIVI! SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU GET RID OF ALL THAT STRESS.
Cheers lovely......it's a start anyway! :-)
Ugh to your diagnosis......but, onwards and upwards......have a great 'you' day.....and many more to come I hope. :-)
I understand exactly what you mean about being at peace in the water. I really enjoyed watching your enthusiasm bubble over, so Thank you for sharing the ups and downs of your journey thus far.
Aww...thank you Katherine. :-)
You go girl!! ✊️ I saw something last week that said the date was 92nd January!!!! Certainly feels like a long month 😂 Your new focus will see you through to the warmer days on the lotty 😉🌱👍
Hahahahahaha - wow, I'm certainly glad there aren't 92 days in January!!!!! ;-)
Today you take on the garden......tomorrow the world! Have a blast lovely. :-)
Inspirational ! Nice one Vivi. I'm getting up and going to write my list. Thanks
Woohoo - go for it! :-)
My Mantra 'I can and I WILL' has got me into so much trouble over the years... Go vivi... I remember commenting to you at the beginning... You will manage... and you ARE.... and you WILL.
Wooohoooo! Cheers lovely. That really is the best mantra. :-)
January IS a great 'taking stock and organizing' month.. I have been doing the same thing. So glad your little Be Fit card is opening doors for you! I joined a health and fitness club and am taking a water exercise class. Great minds think alike ! 😉 Woo Hoo!
Yay! Have fun splashing! :-)
Thank you Harriette - I'll have a look into that......I used to practice yoga daily......but somehow slipped out of doing it..... :-)
I'm so glad you have a garden.......it really can be the best help for depression. Take care lovely and enjoy all your special moments out there. :-)
That's fantastic......that's just what I would like to be able to do. Thank you. :-)
Thank you for your advice to get help! I'm going to do that with all the stuff that's hanging over my head! Super helpful video!
Excellent.......hope you can get some things straight soon. :-)
I love my home garden & my involvement with my local community garden as a plot holder & board member has made me wonder about balance. Especially when I socialize & realize after that all I had to talk about was, what's growing & what I hope to grow, & what I did with what I grew!!
Hahahaha - it's a bit of an obsession eh?.......there are worse addictions! ;-)
Oooh, what a great way to spend your weekend......time with papa and a new growing space. Have fun lovely! :-)
Cheers! Have fun on that fence! ;-)
Ah, that's interesting........I'll see how I get on but bare that in mind if my legs struggle. Thank you for the info/advice. :-)
You go girl, keep up the great work your doing. I always wanted to learn how to swim but never got round to it. May be I can work on that this year.
Yay - go for it! :-)
Thanks for the great video, you’ve made me want to get motivated as well.
Debbie x
Yay! Go for it Debbie.....whatever 'it' is. :-)
Yay - good on you! :-)
Hi Vivi, regarding water butts we get blue barrels from car wash places (they hold detergent). Then make a hole and buy a water butt tap from the local garden centre. I miss running too. Take care.
Oooh, that's a good idea.......I'll ask around - thank you! :-)
V - your excitement is awesome. Healing takes time and anything to do to reduce inflammation will help with some of that pain. 20 minutes ice followed by 20 minutes heat works well.
Thank you. :-)
Cheers - that's good to know. Thank you. :-)
Funnily enough......calendula balm is on my list for this week.......I need to make some for a friend. :-)
You should seriously think about writing books. You're a wonderful story-teller and could write about so many different things.
Ach, hope you can shake off that flu soon........happy list making in the meantime. ;-)
Thank you so much. It’s going around my office...several of us are at home in bed, answering emails and phone calls. ❤️
Beginning of the video I smiled - I procrastinate like nobody's business. And I would love to live on the allotment - apart from being away from hubby and the kids anyway :)
Move them into the shed with you! Swiss Family Robinson style. :-)
Ach......I can't believe the weather you all are still getting. I do hope you're finding fun things to do to distract yourself. :-)
Good on you.....sounds like you found just the right balance. :-)
*hugs*
I think she'd approve. ;-)
Love the idea of getting the least appetizing job done first then the reward of some 'plotting' it works for me !
You probably know this but whilst swimming is excellent do avoid the breaststroke leg movements - not great for the knees :)
If the card allows gym access then try the exercise bike , really good for the knee as not weight bearing.
And yes last year when I got the allotment I was nearly forgetting to go home and feed the family lol the house needed my attention too
Hahahaha - what is housework?......it's what you do a few times a year when you're expecting visitors! Naughty, distracting gardens! ;-)
Good to see your so positive about 2018 and that your taking the bull by its horns. Good on ya.
The only way is up eh? Hoping your year gets off to a great start too.......the end of last year was rubbish for you.....thank goodness that's behind you now! :-)
Yes we have both had a rough end to last year. I guess it is what you make it though
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and all that! Have a great year chuck. :-)
You too. :)
I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me ..... Philippians 4:13
Love you vivi ...shalom 🇺🇸
Thank you. :-)
Good directions for almost everyone, irrespective of age, to get their life in order and live it better and fuller. You will do it.
Absolutely. :-)
an amazing video. so inspirational. swimming is the best exercise. just wish i could inspire myself to go back to the gym. unfortunately PD takes away your will to do anything but watching your videos has given me hope, than you Vivi xx
Cheers Hugh......perhaps there's stuff in your attic you can sell? Good job getting up there and getting it sorted. How satisfying. :-)
Well done to you and good luck
Cheers! I'm loving getting stuck in this year. :-)
Wowzers......that must have been a really difficult time. I'm soooooo glad to hear you're ok now and raring to go. Good on ya! :-)
Thank you, and tomorrow could be my last echocardiogram if alls well. My heart is healing itself, unbelievable. No need to reply, take care lovely lady x
Ha ... Nice vid Vivi ... 🙋♀️ let's go for it 🏃♀️
Yeah!!!! :-)
Thank you. :-)
Ouch - I'm bone on bone too, not pleasant. But, hahahaha, you did make me laugh with the Nike reference - thanks for that! ;-)
I don't know if your pool offers water aerobics classes and I know people turn up noses at it, but they are really really great exercise with low to no body impact. So good for people with knee and back issues. Plus they are actually pretty fun.
They do....but I think they cost extra......I'll find out. :-)
@@WhatVivididnext You have a keen sense of humour :). I agree about procrastination/overwhelm.
good day to you Vivi !! i love swimming but not been for years
I can't wait to get started. :-)
that was a great video, thats just how i have been feeling lol. i am going to become self employed as a support worker at then end of feb :)
Big changes coming for you then......deep breath and dive in! Good luck with it all. :-)
I have to, I'm being pushed.... (redundancy, big support company closing as not enough funding!! same old story!)
Ach. God luck lovely. :-)
I m a procrastinator too!! But like you - my mind is so busy - my body can’t keep up!! Lol x
I'm getting much better at not procrastinating this month......but, goodness, it takes so much self-discipline! ;-)
What Vivi did next - my brain always finds me something else to do :D x
Good Morning Vivi 🌺🌼🌸🌺🌼🌸I am so happy to see how💜 positive you 🌺🌼🌸💛🌼💙🌺
🌷🌹🌻God Bless💕🌻🌹🌷
Thank you lovely. Have a marvelous day. :-)
Good thoughts.
Cheers. :-)
Hi Vivi !
I hope that you don't feel that I'm trying to play "one-up-man-ship" with you. I fully understand where you're coming from too. :-)
Not at all. :-) X
Thank you - sounds interesting, I shall have to look into that. :-)
Thank you lovely! If the knees won't work I'll let my arms do the 'talking' (swimming).......can't wait to get splashing. :-)
Swimming will be great for your knees ive just started swimming again as i struggle with my knees and back and it did feel great.
As gor procrastination i am terrible for it so i feel your pain i tried some EFT tapping which really helped.
Enjoy your swimming 🏊
Yay - it's great to hear that the swimming was good for you......I can't wait. :-)
What Vivi did next you just gave to be careful not to overdo it as you wont feel it until later on .
Wow Vivi! Inspiring thoughts....Could you put a link to your ebay shop under your next video please and thank you!
I don't have a 'shop' as such yet......it's on my list of jobs (!!) to look into and sort out. When I do I'll let you all know. :-)
Thanks Vivi!
I know what you mean. I'm a procrastinator also. I make list to make list.
Hahahaha....yes, the list of lists! I hear you. ;-)
I can’t swim,so I used a float in the water a very long time ago
Floating is lovely....I'm a floater too.
You are awesome.
Thank you! ;-)
Catherine
It's pretty similar here......but I'm delighted I could get the card! Swimming pool here I come. :-)
You could possibly also write a recipe book with all those yummy vegetarian soups and stews, something fun and positive.
Yay! :-)
Yes! And illustrated with Vivi’s watercolors. 🍅 I’d buy one for sure!
Mmmmm, elderberry tea....a good way to procrastinate. ;-)
nice thoughts nice video
Cheers chuck. Have a great day. :-)
Hi Vivi, have you tried mindfulness exercises?, I've found them really beneficial, especially for controlling my moods before they control me. Excellent for controlling pain as well. There's loads of free stuff on UA-cam. All the best. Stay well. 🌻
Absolutely! Thanks lovely. :-)
I still owe "poll tax" courtesy of Mrs Thatcher. As a holiday/work visa holder, I had to pay something. I rang up the council to found out what to pay. They said they didn't know what I owed and please don't ring again. That was the 90s.
Ugh! Enough said! ;-)
I'm out in the garden first thing everyday. After morning tea, then I do a household job, then have lunch. Afternoons are more variable.
Sounds like a good schedule. Have fun out there. :-)
Nice listening
Thank you lovely.
I swear we must be related 😜 once again you looked inside my brain!
Hahahahahahaha. :-)
your council tax sounds like our property tax. If you went to dispute your evaluation here & said you were earning less, they'd point to the door...
:-(
good on ya girl you go for it ;-) Ref your learning a new stroke I would go for breaststroke done properly you will get much more joint movement and you can go as fast or as slow as you like ,Front crawl as we used to call it requires your head in the in the water for more comfort and without goggles you wont see other swimmers ect ect ;-)
Cheers.......I'll probably have a go at both and see which is most comfortable to keep up for a while.... :-)
Might find mr right at pool ❤️
LOL!
Try to get it from the time that you stopped working so it will be even more.
Not allowed unfortunately. But, never mind, I'm happy to have it now........just to get the card! :-)
Do the things you can do
Exactly!
Hi Vivi, what is your eBay seller name please.
I don't have an official one yet (it's on the to-do list!).....just doing personal stuff on it at the moment. I will keep you posted though. :-)
Please tell me you are going to get a swimming hat with rubber flowers on.....
I think it's the law no? ;-)
