      I can't say how many times in my life I felt the exact words Mirabel said, "I will never be good enough for you." I've told that to my mom too, but I've given up talking now. In real life, Abuela Alma would continue doing what she's used to already. Eventually, self acceptance becomes more important than family acceptance

    I'm from Colombia and I cried since the first minute when I saw all the details about my country. Everything was so accurate: the clothes, the food, the music, the animals, the plants... I loved it! They even included a fact of Colombia's history: forced migration. Abuela's story is the story of thousands of colombians, who had to leave their villages because of violence. Disney made an excellent work representing Colombia in this film! 🇨🇴

    Mirabel and Antonio have one of the sweetest and healthiest relationships in all of Disney canon. I love the two interacting.
    And anyone who does not at least tear up near the end, when Pedro sacrifices himself, and we see that absolute and utter grief on Abuela Alma's face, does not have a soul.

    Mirabel didn't receive a gift because she is the gift. The door disappeared because the house is her "room," hence the doorknob at the end with the M on it (it could have stood for Madrigal though), and i believe she's different from her family because she's next in line as the next Matriarch of the family after her grandmother who also doesnt have a special gift but both share a bond with the house, This is just my thoughts on it though

    One thing I noticed that when Mirabel went to get her gift, the candle lit up when she touched it, but Abuela's disappointment and shock made it flicker, because it didn't flicker right away. Just the tiny details like that make it amazing. And of course she blames Mirabel for it.

      @andresmurcia950 2 роки тому +5

      I don’t think that them call the house, casita, means that the house is female. The reason for this is that casita comes from the word casa which does not have a male form. There are just some words that don’t have another gender related spelling to it.

    The -ito (masculine) -ita (feminine) suffixes in Spanish means something or someone is small or familiar or adored. When grandma called Bruno Brunito, the -ito suffix immediately let you know she still loves him.
    This movie is about intergenerational trauma. Grandma was traumatized by losing her home and husband shortly after her children were born, and this caused her to place too much pressure on her children and grandchildren. Worse, she started to value the powers more than the people.
    Mirabelle had to be the one to fix things. Because she didn't have a power of her own, she valued the people more than what they could do with their powers.
    And that's the central message of the story. You heal intergenerational trauma by valuing people more than what they can do. Mirabelle doesn't have a gift and still has value. That is central to the story, and it's why she doesn't have a "secret power" or a metaphorical power. Either of those things undermines the message of the story.

    So lovely to see your reaction! There are lots of Spanish words mixed in with the English. Abuela (grandmother), Abuelo (grandfather), tío and tía (uncle and aunt). Casita means “little house”, which is an affectionate term. You also get to see South American animals like tapirs and capybaras ♥️

  • @Xackadee
    @Xackadee 2 роки тому +36

    Spot on moment early on there. It's such a great defining moment for Mirabel that even though she's going through a lot of emotions on Antonio's night, even though the last gift ceremony was her own traumatic one, even though she's constantly feeling a pressure to stay out of the limelight by her family and even though all of this makes her hesitant to step up, she puts all of that aside after Antonio says "I need you". That right there is someone who *loves* her family.

    My understanding with Isabella is that she can and always could’ve produced all plants, not just flowers. She probably produced several plants when she was very little when her gift was realized, but Abuela forced her to focus on making only “prettier” plants. So she focus only on making flowers for the community and she just forgot about making other plants.

  • @CrazeeAdam
    @CrazeeAdam 2 роки тому +73

    Yeah in the end...it was all the fighting that was tearing the house apart. Not Maribel herself. Mainly Abuela herself. She has her reasons, like preserving Pedro's memory in the form of the candle. But in doing so she made her family not genuine and unhappy. :(
    Something interesting is Isabella and Mariano both look like young Abuela and Pedro. Maybe Abuela wanted their marriage more than either of them >.>

    • @generalx13
      @generalx13 2 роки тому +12

      Absolutely agree that Isabella and Mariano were supposed to be the stand in for Abuella and Abuello. I feel like it was slightly implied that Abuella assumed Isabella might end up taking over as matriarch at some point since it would be uncouth to choose between the triplets and Isabella being the oldest grandchild, spitting image of her grandmother, and likely first to get married and have children. Her whole life was about setting up the dominoes for a life that was already planned out for her.

    • @cupguin
      @cupguin 2 роки тому +4

      I had a slightly different take. When Mirabel makes up with her sister the candle grows brighter and the cracks start to fix but it's when she blames her Abuela for everything that's when everything falls apart.
      It's more complicated and she's trying her best but in the end she tears the house apart. It's just that's the same for both Alma and Mirabel.
      And I would argue it's not just the memory of Pedro. Trauma is complicated and can overlap. In Alma's mind the first thing that happens was she lost her home and had to leave, which gets tied into watching the love of her life murdered. It's not rational but people who have experienced trauma can end up trapped trying to prevent one bad thing happening again by focusing on something else. She doesn't want her children to experience the pain she went through so she has to keep the house intact. And just like how Mirabel trying to save the miracle destroys it, Alma trying to keep her family from going through her pain causes pain.
      She's definitely hurt her family but Mirabel has hurt her family as well. The important thing is that they all love each other and are going to work on not just rebuilding their home but improving their relationships with each other.

    1. The colorful river that they show us in the movie is a real river, is called Caño Cristales. It is known as the most beautiful river in the world.
    2. In Luisa's song, when the second verse begins, Luisa and Mirabel fall into a coffee grinder
    3. The plates where Bruno's visions are seen, are emerald. Colombia is the largest exporter of emerald in the world.
    4. All the gifts of the family represent something Colombian. Pepa represents the country's varied and rare climate. Camilo the variety of races and ethnic groups of the country. Dolores gossip. Antonio biodiversity. Isabela the flora. Juliet the gastronomy. Luisa the work of the Colombian, could we say (?
    5. All the clothes you see in the movie, including hats, are cultural from all over the country. That is why it is disrespectful to us that Disney sells it.
    6. Candles represent a lot in our culture, in fact we have a day dedicated to lighting candles. Hence why the candles in the movie.
    7.The palma de Cera that is mentioned in Isabela's song, and seen throughout the town, is the national tree of Colombia, and is the largest type of palm in the world.
    8. The yellow butterflies represent one of the novels by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a Colombian literature Nobel Prize winner.
    9. Violence in Colombia is a very big issue, which continues to be experienced to this day. In the grandmother's past we can see Forced Displacement. Colombia is the country with the most internally displaced people in the world.

      Yes! She got it! I feel like other reviewers don’t actually feel the emotions of the characters until the end with Abuela Alma. I cried so many times in the movie. Oddly, I’m one of the only ones I’ve seen, heard of, or know about who almost cried at We Don’t Talk About Bruno, though because I’m pretty much the odd one in my family and as soon as Pepa sang “Bruno walks in with a mischievous grin,” I knew he wasn’t bad because I was treated pretty much the same way, except that I was talked about, but mostly to my face or just mean conversations in front of me. I kept almost crying and just remembering my pain, being like, “Why does everyone hate Bruno so much?” because that’s how I felt. Honestly, though, I cried all the times Dasha cried. I’m not Colombian, but I’m Salvadoran, raised in the US, but brought up with both cultures, and from experience, this movie is so relatable on so many levels.

    Love your reaction! That's exactly what I expect someone watching Encanto should react. Disney make a wonderful movie, and you did a wonderful and sincere reaction. Congratz from Brazil.

    Hey, to the reactor of this video. Just want to say I love your reaction and you made me think about something when you said that the characters gifts reflects their personality. Maybe the reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she has such an amazing and divided personality that casita could not find a power that reflects her personality because it is just to amazing.

    I just realized in my third rewatch of the movie that abuela ditches the widow shawl after hugging Mirabel. It took that for me to understand the meaning behind the caterpillar/buterfly.

    7:35 Close, quiero means "I want," so "Te quiero" is technically, "I want you." Though going by the context of the song, it's probably more accurate to translate it to something like "I long for you," since it doesn't sound like the song is a declaration of intent to conquer. "I love you" would be "Te amo," though there may be other ways that are less passionate to say it? I'm not sure. I'm not sure if "Amor" is purely romantic love, or if it covers the many other spectrums of love, too. After all, I'm not a fluent or native Spanish speaker. This is just what I remember from Spanish classes in high school 15 years ago.

      I’ve always understood it as “I love you,” depending on the context of the situation. This is coming from a Puerto Rican.

    Mirabel is the candle. It was the candle that brought magic and miracle to the house the first time with Abuela .. And in absence of the candle, Mirabel, the human candle fixes it.The whole house is her room. And The reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she is the gift.

    "You marry someone for love, not for family". Even though that's not an early concept (it's been proposed since the Chivalry times), it wasn't really put into practice and disseminated as common sense until the late 20th century, at least in Colombia. My grandparents married not for love, but because it was their moral obligation to maintain the bloodline and protect the patrimony; and that's how it worked in their generation and before them. And I guess that's one of the reasons why marriages are lasting so little... cause love, at least the one you feel for your object of desire, is fleeting.

    That thing in her hair- it does look a bit like a butterfly; but in English we cal that a bow (like bow and arrow, rhymes with throw and snow, not bow to the audience, like in plow or cow).

    This movie reminded me of an episode of the TV show 'The Librarians'. For those who don't know there were a couple movies and a TV show based on them that lasted a few seasons. The show is about a team that deals with supernatural threats to the world in modern times. Basically they were dealing with what they _thought_ was an evil magical house. They come to find out that the house was actually a victim in the whole mess. The house was sort of a wish granting entity bound by certain rules that it could not break. A psychopath had gotten control of the house and was using it for her nefarious purposes. Obviously they managed to save the house by figuring out how to 'evict' Mrs crazy pants.

    Oh, I am very surprised and glad that I absolutely accidentally started watching a video of someone from Russia! I almost never see or watch content created by people from my country, at least because of my preference in viewing content in English/Spanish.
    And considering the recent events in the world… Oh, it's really nice to see such a pleasant and charming Russian, since the country's reputation is getting even worse, especially lately... not that it's unreasonable, but unpleasant for me personally…
    Okay, never mind, thank you for your reaction, I really love it

You are very welcome to Colombia to see the wonderful landscapes, culture and people who live here. I assure you that they are 100 times more beautiful than in the movie. The only risk of coming to Colombia is that you want to stay. Hug😊👋
