Hey guys, I'm aware that the music is a half step flat.
For whatever reason, when we encoded it in the editor, it always comes out a half step flat.
If anyone has an idea how to fix this, I'm all ears.
The notes that I'm calling out during the reaction are the correct ones though.
    Best,
    Matt Ramsey, Voice Teacher

I don't understand why English speakers think the rest of the world is obligated to speak English ... and without an accent ..? Fucked up or what? Are you already completely crazy with your world domination there?
If a foreign singer comes to Russia and sings a song in Russian, then we will not give a damn about the accent ... even the missing letters and words are unimportant ... we will simply be grateful to him for his work, for what he learned, for respect for our language ...
Let it be known to you, young man, until 1991 the USSR included 15 republics (including the homeland of Dimash - Kazakhstan) ... 15 republics, dude !!!! and each republic has its own native language, but all were united by the Russian language ... and in our country it is considered very indecent to point to someone's accent ...
So what right do you English speakers have to demand this? At least this is indecent and politically incorrect !!!!!!!!!
I would like to see how you would sing in Russian, Kazakh, Chinese ... and how you, like a kitten, will be poked in the shit ...
You are in Europe so intensely fighting for the rights of African Americans ... at such a pace, the whole World will soon fight with you for their right to speak English with an accent !!!
I never write angry comments ... but just talking about accents is already infuriating !!!
And, I beg your pardon, if Dimash and I hurt your high feelings !!!
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, slow down, please. My whole intent was only to say that if he wants to appeal to even more international audiences, one-third of whom understand English, then he at least needs to be understandable. Unless captioned, some people didn't understand the beauty of the lyrics. Dimash himself plans to learn better English, it is his own goal too. And he was thrilled to be speaking English in his concert here in New York, and very humble about his hope to learn. No nationalism or world domination here. Think about the possibilities!

Well, my point of view is that Dimash breaks all boundaries. I don't know why we have to classify him a Tenor or a Baritone. Frankly, Dimash's voice is in it's own category. No one has his range... so why should we smash him into a limiting category where he doesn't fit? And I love Dimash's pronunciation. It's charming!

I had to just put this here before you get to the reaction: RGB, as a Dear myself, I have to thank you for being so respectful when voicing your disagreement. Personally, I can't understand why this controversy has been going on for so long. In the grand scheme of things, Dimash's voice is sublime. For me, that's enough. One singer that absolutely WAS a tenor, was Jim Reeves. Wayyyy before your time, Ramsey hahaha. Yeah, Dimash is highly intelligent in the way he chooses to deliver a song. He's the supreme fisherman lol. He reels you in from the beginning and doesn't let go until the end and you're left wondering "Why did it stop???" His absolute breath control when he goes from belting down to a whisper is pure mastery (and long hours of practice, I know). That fade-out is perfection. Thanks, Ramsey. I'm glad Piergiuseppe chose him to do this soundtrack for the movie. You're right. He does have a problem with the 'th' and onset 'h'. It's not all the time, though but he DOES tend to forget sometimes. But we tend to love Dimash's Dinglish, so we don't mind at all. In fact, I love it.

previously, i had been one of dimash's fans that thought you were a little quick to judge/categorize his voice, although i don't believe i was ever vocal about this prior.
i was pleasantly surprised with this video's commentary/critiques, in comparison with other dimash evaluations you've done.
i'd like to thank you for the two min tutorial here; it's not an issue i have being a native english speaker, but i do have close family members whose native tongue isn't english, so i've seen the challenge with certain sounds, & some seem dang near impossible to shake.
yr tutorial was easy to follow, concise, pertained to a legitimate issue many non-native english speakers deal with, & then offered up simple instructions & what seems to be an easy to implement tool to remedy the issue, should one desire.
it's okay to talk about what we like & what we would change about a performance... that's why we're all here! i hope others can admit this much as well.

I subscribed for one reason only. I am Russian, I am also a retired linguistics professor. What amazes me the most is the way Americans, you included, approach the accent in foreigners. This young man sings in 9, some say 12, languages, and not just sings - he understands what he is singing about because of the way his body, arms, head, etc. moves. A few songs he sings in Chinese, which is arguably the most difficumt language on earth, and the Chinese audience adores him even though it's not the best pronunciation. For them, the most important thing is whether he understands the lyrics and connects them properly to the music. They cry when he sings Daybreak and Autumn Strong (you must listen to them with the stories that created these two somgs). Very few foreigners speak without an accent, but almost all of them speak proper English, which I cannot say about Americans. In my experience, the vocabulary of an American is about 2500-4000 words - out of hundreds of thousands in English language. Simply say, most Americans are illiterate. And in the end: every foreigner speaks and writes in 3 or more languages...how many do you speak and write? This shouldn't even be a discussion, not from you in the least. Enjoy your day.

This is just a stunning performance. I love his accent. No problem with me. He is brilliant in everything he does. That th sound is interpreted as 'Dah Dark'. You know, I don't friggin' care. Russian has no equal to THE. That word does not exist. And who cares. "Into dark" no THE. No amount of training can explain to Russian speaker the need for :THE'. I find performers who sing in multiple languages are usually able to apply emotion to overcome glitches in diction. Certainly Dimash is the most amazing of them all.

      @arwengarraway9143 4 роки тому +1

This is what I'm saying. It's hard to learn a sound you don't know. I've heard him pronounce 'the' properly before, but if you are not a native speaker them you most likely don't know if you're doing it right or not. For example, two seemingly identical recordings of Sinful Passion and apparently his Russian pronunciation is different in both. I listened to them numerous times and would swear that they sounded the same. Dimash doesn't get lots of practice with English speakers, his closest resources are his managers and assistants in China. They communicate to each other in English because they don't speak each other's language. Mind you that these people aren't natives ( to the English language) so Dimash is practicing and learning incorrect pronunciation, expressions etc.

Dimash has greatly improved in his English pronunciation and has said that he continues to work on this. There are actually two "th" sounds, one voiced (the) and one not voiced (thumb). I have found that some non-English speakers have more difficulty with the voiced "th" and also tend to extend the tongue past the teeth. As you mentioned, it is a difficult sound to master. I appreciate your reactions to Dimash's performance and hope to hear more from you.

Dimash fans call his English Dinglish. If you consider that three years ago he didn't speak English at all, he has already mastered a lot in this direction. Certainly he will also lack practical training, because he will surely have too few people around him who have English as their mother tongue to talk to him. I think he even wanted to go to school in America, but Corona has now stopped everything.
But when I sometimes notice, especially with reactors, how indistinctly the English speak, people who have it almost certainly as a mother tongue, then I really get along better with Dimash Dinglish. Smile.

In my opinion he is a tenor, counter tenor, soprano and a partially Baritone. His talking voice is more of a baritone than a tenor. It means that he can talk in any octaves as well as singing of course. His Baritone is very beautiful and all the way to the whistle notes. I wish I could hear his Ave Maria before I die.

I personally think Dimash does a great job. Particularly when you think that someone like the Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who's lived in the United States, and has been exposed to the English language for more than 50 years, still has trouble pronouncing his English. He still has a very strong accent. Remember the famous movie line. "Get to da chopper", so with all the other languages Dimash performs, it's highly unlikely he'll be able to sing, or speak in English, like a native. But i certainly wouldn't put it past him in time.

He is both, tenor when he was younger and now, as he gets older and the voice further develops, he is also covering the baritone register. Take 'Ogni Pietra' for example! What is so surprising about that? With other singers maybe, but with Dimash it's almost normal, with all the work and efforts e puts into his singing! It's the same fuss about his D8 (Unforgettable Day) and now people are expecting this in almost every song. Just relax and give yourself in to this wonderful, unique voice, enjoy it without quarreling over tones and registers, gosh! Cheers from Vienna!

There is really no point to be offended and sarcastic! If you are going to sing English please get a tutor to help otherwise what is the point of singing in that language? I am Dimash's fan by all means but I don't understand why after all these years and with the money he makes he has not one teacher to help him sing correctly in English. It's not hard. I think no one dares to point it out. Accent is one thing but wrong diction is bad. It's very weird to listen to an English song without understanding the words at all. You don't care but many do. People should correct him so that he can improve. Obviously nobody dares to tell him because I hear some wrong pronunciations in Your Love that actually change the meaning of the sentence.

Dimash himself is fully aware that he has some accent. And he is trying very hard to reduce it. If you saw his recent English interview, you could tell the improvements he has made. If we look at this as an area of improvement, I feel Dimash himself would be very receptive to it. However, the quality of a performance is mostly determined by tonality, musicality and emotion delivered by the performer. And Dimash did a superb job on those! I would view the tiny accent has no significant impact on that delivery! Non native speakers would naturally have some accents and we just need to have open mind and clear ears to hear them out!

He will always have an accent, English is not his language, but having an accent is not an insult either, when people tell me but you don't have an accent, I always wonder why do they tell me that, are they saying it because they are being nice, do they think I would get offended? or is it true I don't have one, but then do I identify with my people? So having an accent is not bad at all. Having good diction is a must especially while we are singing, people have to understand what we are saying. It comes when you use the language, that is what some people don't get about busy people like Dimash he has to practice the language to learn it, this is not the Matrix one plug to your brain and now you know English, it takes time, as an ESL teacher I can tell you it takes a lot of effort.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: This new song “ACROSS ENDLESS DIMENSIONS” by Dimash from the movie soundtrack of 2019's: "CREATORS: THE PAST” it was composed, conducted and directed by Piergiuseppe Zaia, an Italian Director, Writer, Producer and Composer. The movie was based on the 2012 Mayan Calendar an upcoming Italian fantasy film written by Piergiuseppe Zaia, and Eleonora Fani. The movie is delayed to view in public due to Covid 19, but it is still a good news because just recently this song had gained Dimash for 2.7 MILLION VIEWS - A GIFT TO HIM FROM THE LISTENING PUBLIC.
How Dimash sang this piece of music, his towering highest notes, the power and beauty of his voice are indeed remarkable. His English pronunciation as well, improved a lot. Listening to this music seems it give us a glimpse of getting into, our life inner journey, which points us into a great mystery of our human life existence and being. The music background creates such an ambiance and mysterious inner depth of the soul's journey towards its destination.
And in this music, Dimash was able to enter into that inner depth of himself in order for him to enunciate and utter the real feelings and emotions by heart, so that naturally he can deliver his music beautifully as in, he was there in a real story that happened. Obviously, until this time, his music circulates so fast and connects to millions of people worldwide, even if he sang his music in foreign languages to the listening public. As I observe it, when Dimash sang and performed his song, he doesn't just narrate the story plainly but enters into it, which is very unique of him as an artist.
Music is such a mixed up of many and various competing emotions within us, and when artist and audience are sensitive and attentive to it, we can really feel for real, every beat and the dynamics of the song every time the artists performed, which brought such a great effects on those who listen to it.
This song “ACROSS ENDLESS DIMENSIONS”, is a soul penetrating music which encourages me once again to reflect such a great truth to look into our internal life. Although this song is based on a FANTASY FILM, which means, is only an imagination created in mind by the writer but does not really exists for real. But if you reflect it deeply, it conveys something spiritual and truth in our human life. In fact, on line, some awe inspiring and beautiful comments about this music and the voice of Dimash which says: oh its heavenly, angelic, divine, and majestic etc, all these conveys some spiritual beauty and images that awakens in the hearts of people to those who listens to it.
Even just the Title of this song itself and some few phrases coming from the lyrics, poses a great deal for us to look into, which is very important, most especially the truth of many things particularly in our human existence and being. Here are my comments and personal reflection on this song, to give us an in depth meaning of this piece of music. This is my gift to the listening public, hoping that it might do good and help them in some way. My reflection focuses on:
I.) The Title of the Song: ACROSS ENDLESS DIMENSIONS in truth and in reality this phrase is only applicable to God alone, why… because He alone is endless, and is never easy to come across going to Him casually, much more His dimensions in whatever aspects is cannot be measured. We don't know really how God come into existence and in His being, because nobody is above or greater than Him, much more no one created Him, He come into existence in his own power. We cannot also fully understand or measure the depth, and length and height of who God is… especially His power, love, beauty and wisdom, which I believed He has revealed it clearly in the BEAUTY OF HIS CREATION.
In Gods own design and will, indeed our existence in this world is really a gift and a grace beyond human words, out of God's great love, generosity and goodness lavishly bestowed on us, but sad to say, it is only for a short time , because by nature everything that exists materially here on earth passes away, nothing lasts. But even if this is our human reality, still God is… and is always worthy of all our praise and gratitude.
II.) As the song progresses, we come across this phrase in the lyrics: THE SOURCE OF MY CREATION. Obviously, this is the truth of our human existence and being that it really came from God. Remember that… our parents do not create us, but are only Gods instruments that we can have a physical body. Yes, materials things like: houses, cars etc ..., are human creation, but if God does not give us life and intelligence, still human being cannot do anything. So in the end, we always go back to the source and truth of our existence = TO GOD WHO CREATED US.
III. ) Another phrase in the lyrics: SHOW ME THE WAY TO REACH THE CORE OF MY LIFE it is beyond our human capacity to show the way and to reach the core of our life, no matter how holy the person is. Why ...? Because each person is a mystery, unique and different, nobody can fully understand who really we are, that is our sacred space which only God can penetrate. God alone can lead us the way to reach that core of our life because our existence comes from Him who created us and He alone knows us deeply through and through.
IV.) Finally another phrase in the lyrics is: TAKE ME HOME BACK TO MY SOUL after we come across this life on earth, our soul will go back to His Creator and to its final true home which is in heaven, the fulfillment of everything that we are longing for, and there, we can fully experience true, endless, perfect dimensions of joy and happiness beyond all human telling and expectation, when we will be united with our God more closely.
Why is it necessary and significant for us the realities of this song ..? Because when we knew and accept the true roots and beginnings of our human identity that… all things that exist including our talents, skills and intelligence etc… belongs to God, only then that we can fully live our life in joy and in peace. So, so that in us and in everything, there should not be any boasting, because without God in our life we are nothing and cannot do anything.
In the case of Dimash, his grateful hearts is always thoughtful to God and to people who help him in many ways. In fact and in joy, he really give his best and work very hard for years, in cultivating and developing his many talents and gifts. Through constant practice and perseverance, he was able to reach such an extreme peak and core of his professional field, that at this time many people and even the renown artists worldwide are amazed of it: of its quality, beauty, professionalism and optimum talent development which is beyond our human understanding and expectation.
Many questions are being asked by onlookers ... How Dimash do that ...? And what is his secret ...? Of course he did all the professional things and dedicates himself wholeheartedly to practice and participate in various singing contest which polishes very well his singing career into such a remarkable beauty, power and strength. I do believe that his success is no tricks and magic at all, but rather, it is the fruits of many years of hard work and dedication. More than that, beyond Dimash human capacity, I believed too that he is really gifted by God with grace for music, and in that, we are all amazed on how God's power works and reveal his wisdom, beauty and goodness thru the works of an artist.
God’s grace and Dimash perseverance and cooperation with it, he was able to face every difficulties and challenges that comes his way, to realize his long time childhood dream to be an artist. Very well … he was able to make it with flying colors, and so my warmest congratulations to him, to his family and to his teachers, who contributed a lot that his dream will become a reality.

Heya, Matt. Thanks for your enjoyable and educational reactions to Dimash's incredible work. As a linguist -- that is, as one who studies human language scientifically -- I find you vocalists' approach to language (from the whole other end of the spectrum) to be quite fascinating. I recall my initial shock the first time I heard a trained singer -- someone I knew to be a non-linguist -- talking about the human language faculty using terms I'd never before heard outside of a linguistics classroom! It was a very pleasant surprise, and I find listening to you vocal coaches and opera singers and such on these Dimash reactions is very much more of the same.
That said, I'd like to comment on your brief tutorial on pronouncing the English -th sounds : -th as in 'think' & -th as in 'father' (IPA sounds θ and ð respectively, aka theta & eth). You see, I think you missed the boat entirely on how these sounds are made. They are both denoted as interdental fricatives, with the emphasis here being placed on 'interdental' -- that is, made by placing the tongue between the teeth. There is no relationship between these sounds and 'laying the tongue flat', although I can see why your professional focus on tonality might mislead you to think otherwise. To make these sounds, just position your mouth to make a -t or -d, push your tongue tip slightly through your front teeth, and then make the sound that *would've* been -t or -d if you hadn't moved your tongue. It'll be a theta or eth every time.
As for people busting on you for commenting on diction at all, well, you can expect some of that. Language is very personal but is very rarely well understood, and there *is* a lot of pointless snobbery built into many discussions about it. I didn't detect any of that in your commentary, though. All I heard was a helpful voice putting out what Dimash and probably every other serious vocalist would regard as very helpful information -- despite the fact that I think it was off-target :) -- simply because anyone singing in a different language wants to sing it well enough to be understood. For those who still want to bust on you anyway, well, don't pay them too much mind. There is a place for their criticism of language bigotry, but I don't believe that place is on you, so don't let their not understanding that ruin your day.
Thanks again for your great reactions here. I look forward to the next.

Sorry for the long apparent strikeout, as none of that should be stricken out. I think the initial hyphen on the first "th" did something I didn't mean it to. All those words do belong in my comment! Sorry about that.

Dimash current vocal range is 7 octaves and one semi tone (C#1 - D8). This is what Dimash shows to us. Probably much wider in reality.

I think he can go higher personally, but usually growl notes do not count as part of your range, so the C# is debatable

What if Dimash is the first unique voice that you can't put into a range of tenor v baritone. What if he transcends these definitions. Maybe it's time to start a new classification. Dimash is the forerunner of a new range.
