"The Golf of EVs" || New Kia EV3 review || The best new electric family car?

- This is the new Kia EV3, an electric crossover that's Volkswagen Golf-sized in its footprint, but also, costing from £32,995, Golf-priced. If it's good enough, it could just be the kind of car that buyers default to.
A base EV3 comes with a 58kWh battery with 267 miles of range. An extra £3000 gets you an 81kWh battery with 372 miles of range. That's the model tested here by our Editor, Mark Tisshaw.
Its single motor makes 201bhp and 209lb ft, good enough for 0-62mph in 7.7sec and a top speed of 105mph. It should return 4.2 miles per kWh of energy efficiency. It can charge at up to 128kW.

Top class review that covers the main points under 5 minutes.
Well done.
Great work by KIA and the whole Hyundai group 😊😊
Are u 4 real..😂
They're knocking it out of the park at the moment.
I think your review sums it up best of all reviews on EV3 in the initial days.
Super excited about this. Shame about the relatively slow charging speeds, although I suppose something has to give to have this level of kit at an ICE price. At least from reading other reviews the winter range shouldn't be as affected as the EV3 has a "heat pump and resistive Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heating system".
We conduct road tests on many EV3's, and they are an experience all in their own, they feel smooth, solid and very controlled even with all the regen features enabled. Loaded with features and useful tech.
The model you should compare it to really is the Golf EHybrid and that starts at £37k, so already considerably cheaper. If you go up the range, the more powerful and longer range EV3 is still cheaper than the Golf EHybrid GT. The fact that it’s virtually the same price as petrol/diesel shows how the days of ICE cars are numbered.
That's the smartest smaller EV choice.
I enjoyed watching the video
Why do they feel the need to give UK car's stiffer spring's most owners of this type of car would prefer a smoother ride
I had the same question. Have they driven on UK roads or is just some silly marketing belief that every European driver wants a sPoRts car?
With the state of our roads, genuinely think that soft springs would bounce you around way too much. Like being on a pogo stick. Hard compromise really; I'd love a softer setup
Soft suspension is fine for motorway driving, however for those that live in the country it is horrible on winding narrow roads. My second car is an Octavia and it's great on the motorway but heading across rural Scotland and I soon wish I was in the Ibiza or still had my MX5.
EV of the Year 2024
Good job KIA
A competitor to Skoda Elroq?🤔
Is the launch taking place
In 🇰🇵?? Where is all the traffic and prople ;)
It's a district called Songdo, a district that is about 30 miles from Seoul. It's a newly-developed business district that is not that densely populated as of now.
Nice ev
I like Kia but Hyundai seems to take a little extra time to bake in the oven to deliver an ultimate better product. Makes me excited for the Ioniq 3!
267 miles? Elon Musk Tesla miles? If that's the case you can knock off 50 me off of that and you will get 220 MI.
I hope they come out with real world miles.
Please. Great review, except that no review is complete without seeing you sit in the back seat with the front set to your spec and telling us your height! No other way to understand the back seat packaging.
My only real moan is the porky 1850 width due to being on the Ev6 platform, which is a bit wide for UK roads, parking spaces etc. This is not really an SUV rather an estate car sitting on a huge battery pack which is the only way with current battery tech they can build EVs.
Everybody mentions the QR code. Kia must have spent s lot of time on that at the journalists briefing. As well as the laptop workspace. Although the EV3 seems appealing to me, those features aren't the reason.
I'd give up 5 miles of range in exchange for normal door handles. Otherwise this finally seems to be a true Soul EV, without being burdened by the need for an ICE variant.
If they’re the same as the Ioniq 5 handles then I wouldn’t be worried. Its proximity sensor is very accurate and there’s a backup button you can press to lock/unlock
Seems much more expensive with pcp than many others?
I'm thinking the upcoming Skoda Elroq will be a strong ... perhaps stronger contender to the EV3.
It's not exactly the same category of car, the Škoda will be ~20cm longer, but the price should be in a similar range, maybe even a bit lower for the basic trim.
Shame that it looks like a Crossover/ small SUV. Why cant they just do a Hatchback???
Are you OK?? Hatch will be an ev1 and ev2.
EV6?
No catch on the base EV3 vs the similarly priced Golf TDi?
How about EV3 (theoretical) range 265 miles vs Golf over 600 miles, or EV3 charging to 100% taking 40 minutes or more vs Golf taking 4 minutes to fill up, or EV3 range dropping significantly in cold weather vs Golf no cold weather impact on range?
Of course there are positives for the EV over the ice Golf too. I'm not going to list them in the same anal way you did for the Golf because quite frankly I'm bored with people like you. If you want an ice car go buy one. I'll continue with EVs thank you.
@@lynnjones5904 Ah, bless you! So you are bored, reading comments like mine, are you? Did anyone force you to read them? And thank you for giving me permission to buy the car of my choice. Real nice of you!
Regardless, I think you missed the point of my comment. My point isn't that only ICE cars have advantages over EVs. Of course EVs have their advantages too. But this reviewer, more than once, made the point that there is no catch for opting for the EV3 over a Golf diesel. In other words he is saying that everthing the Golf diesel can do, the EV3 can do just as well.
I merely pointed out a few areas where this is not the case, which clearly upset you! I readily accept that in some areas the EV3 is preferable, like no pollution at the tailpipe, quiter running etc. Hopefully you get the point now!
@@Kelveron Boring.
...or the Golf TDi not having the ability to fill itself up while parked on your driveway and needing you to drive to a petrol station just to start a journey with sufficient fuel...
Shame the version I would want goes to just over £40k (hence "luxury tax") if you choose anything but the standard orange paint. So that is a no then.
If you get the car registered on or before March 31st 2025, no £40k luxury tax applied.
Comparing this with a golf ?😂 dude come on...
You don't think Golfs are good do you? It's a myth.
The Bentley Continental GT v Aston Martin DB12 v Maserati GranTurismo can be...
Back seat space, boot space???. Pointless review.
At least the audio is good for a change
sufficient
If its a practical car show it’s practical features- reviews spend to much time on tech and handling, important for some models but don’t forget to highlight its mission qualities
400l, the Space is enough
"Eee-Vee-Free"
Van Gateway
You can get a Golf Match 1.5 eTSi auto for 2k less than base spec Kia EV3 Air.
And you can spec the extras you want on the Golf. Its over 40K to get a well specced EV3
May BE to get the same specs than ev3
@@contra_plano the base spec EV3 for 32K does not have much equipment.
But why would you stay with old technology such as ICE garbage.
Downsides, Weight, Range and Tech
Go on then... I'll 'bite'...
"Weight, range and tech" compared to what exactly...?
@@jonathantaylor1998 Something that isn't an SUV/Crossover.
@@angela1984a oh, don't get me wrong, I'm ALL for buyers not choosing an SUV when a regular hatch / estate has been perfectly suited for family life over generations...!
I read somewhere that, if tailpipe emissions from all the SUVs in the world were recorded as they are for a country, they'd be the 6th largest polluter 😠
@@jonathantaylor1998 Its the disadvantage of electric cars. I'm not against EV's I've had two myself, my wife's also has a Taycan. I hated my Kia EV6 as the tech was distracting and intrusive, it was to heavy, and the range was restrictive, low roll resistance tyres are hairy on occasions. I think the Dacia Spring is more on the right road, it just needs a break through in battery technology to give it the range it deserves.
So compared to what? What we have been driving for years. I'm now driving a 10year old Yeti.
5) Horrible depreciation compared to an ICE car.
That's not "The Golf of EVs". That's a SUV/Crossover.
The VW ID.3 or the Opel Astra Electric is the Golf of EVs.
We were crying out for more affordable EVs and now Kia have released an EV that's free apparently.
If a presenter can not say Three instead of Free they should not be allowed to review a car that has Free, sorry, I mean Three in its name
If only anything about it was free
Next up Jonathan Ross reviews the Wange Woveh
That was a cheap shot.
For every like I'll do 1 sqaut! Subscribe for proof 😅
Looks like a breeze block on wheels
That exterior design will get old very quickly.
Sharp design never gets old. Cure your jealousy.
Unlike some other cars, this has a bit of presence
Bottom spec Kia against mid/high spec Golf is not a fair comparison.
Yes, Not fair for the Kia - It's more powerful, quicker to 60mph and has a higher standard spec !
Auto car does appear to have a bias towards Kia et al
Bottom spec EV3 has more spec than high spec golf 🙄
Another german garbage. Kia is higher spec than bmw in ev.
Only small downside to this EV3. No rear wiper for a rear window! That'll mean a lot of time will be spent cleaning it instead of just flicking the wiper stalk to clear it.

It’s under the spoiler 😃
Box on wheels, plain and boring

S h 1 t box 😂
You know nothing about cars kid.
That's 💩 looking, and I bet the eco credentials doesn't include the environmental damage in the manufacture of the batteries
no thanks
Zero interest in EV reviews 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Arrrrhhh not quite true, i think you just came out off the closet, why else would you spend your time here 😂❤
The EV AGENDA CONTINUES TO BE RAMPED DOWN OUR THROATS😴😴😴 This channel is becoming a chore to watch.
