  • Making a Highboy with Ball and Claw Feet. This video shows the making of a Highboy or High Chest of Drawers that we recently made for a client. This Highboy is made of solid Walnut, details include a Hand carved Newport shell, cabriole legs ending in ball and claw feet and pad feet, Hand cut dovetailed drawers with Figured Quarter-sawn Walnut Drawer Fronts and a Hand rubbed Orange Shellac and Royal Lac Finish. www.shellacfini... This Highboy is handmade based on a few different antique examples made in Newport Rhode Island by John Townsend and John Goddard.
At Doucette and Wolfe Furniture Makers we make fine custom and reproduction furniture to order combining a meticulous attention to detail and overall quality with the finest hardwoods available today. These combined attributes give our clients furniture that is both beautiful and most importantly functional for daily use. Furniture that will stand the test of time and will be used and enjoyed for generations to come, thus becoming the future family heirloom.

My mind was blown many times over throughout this video. I admire hand carving skills and dream of having abilities like these someday. The part where you hand carved the mouldings at 15 minutes in was especially inspirational. I am new to woodworking and was planning on investing in some hollow and round moulding planes to make trim pieces in my house, but after seeing this maybe I should get some gouges instead! I don't care if it is more difficult to learn. I am inspired to give it a try.

Definitely a better way to do cabriole legs. With the dovetailed case you get so much more stability. Prior to watching this, I was going to do it this way for my next set as opposed to the leg with the post that defines the corner of the case. I wish you guys were still making videos.

That is gorgeous! You are true artists. My mom had a modern reproduction of that very same highboy and I loved it. It stood around six feet tall and my mom was barely five feet tall. She had to use a stool to see in the top drawer. 😁

This video should be watched by all people who order custom furniture. I build custom/ reproduction furniture and customers are always asking why it takes 4-6mos for a bedroom set. This video is sped up. It took this guy several weeks to compleat this piece.

I ran out of descriptions of how I feel watching your build process. I could repeat what others say, but that doesn't do it for me. I'm a premium subscriber for another woodworker. I won't name drop because that would be unfair to both of you. I will say this though, although I'm perfectly happy watching your videos, wishing I could work as confidently and beautifully as you work. But I would be even more thrilled to be able to learn, just a little of how you do what you do. I can only imagine what little free time you have to yourself when you're not working on these fabulous commissions, but I would happily pay for premium content should you ever decide to open up your shop to any online training classes. Until then, i'll just continue to stare blankly at the screen while you work your magic, wishing still that I hadn't waited so late in life to pick up a chisel.

+Silent- Hill dont stare at the screen. cut some wood. ;-) no one gets good at this by taking a class. you get good by trial and error. simple as that.
