Awsome drone footage and music score perfectly captures the mood. Unfortunately, for many residents it is life altering devastation that they are now dealing with. Captiva will never return to what it was in our lifetime.
Sadly, Captiva never incorporated, as did Sanibel in 1974, when it became a city & greatly increased their own rights to determine building. codes, regulations, height & setback, & other density issues - alll of which help determine the character & the future of a community. Captiva still remains largely under county rule - not much protection.
I'm just heartbroken!! We've been vacationing on Captiva Island & North Captiva for about 15 years! It was so beautiful, a real jungle paradise! So sad!!
Please don't break scenes. Your previous drone videos were a continuous shoot. That gave those of us unfamiliar with the locations better prospective of what we are viewing.
Need more mangroves… less condos that are lived in a few months out of the year… def don’t need a golf course…. What has happened is awful but what do you expect. Treat Mother Nature one way it’s going to treat you back
looks like after an nuclear impact fallout. reminds me of the fact that this island's beauty has been carryied solely by its vegetation. It's really ugly now, and it will take 40-50 years to regrow all the plants, enough time for another 20 superhurricans destroying the rest of it. Look, even the sand beach has changed its colour completely, the entire eco-system on and around this island has been extinguised, from birds to water bacteria. As sad as it sounds, but rebuilding the island makes absolutely no sense. Just like the music title chosen for this video.
maybe not 40-50, but certainly 10-15. Last time I visited the island was 2011 (8 years after Charley) and the vegetation had vastly improved from 2006, but still had a ways to go. With the increasing frequency and severity of hurricanes, it will likely happen again, this time sooner than 20 years after this.
@@veloboy91 20 or 40 years, tourists won't come back so quickly. the island lost its virginity and charme completely. it also seems that the eco-system has turned down (all the cycles of nature from fauna to flora that keep the beauty running). the water has become yellow, and the beaches have tightened. whatever will be rebuilt, it will not have the wooden and colored style of the old times. sanibel was in my heart for decades, ever since i discovered it back in 1990, it feels like something essential of my life has been taken away. like a witch strike of my mad ex girl friend with whom i last spent time on the island. the last 2 years i was actually looking to buy a house for my retrirement. Imagine i purchased just before the hurricane. one lucky side, one sad side. Interestingly some realtors still try to sell homes, hard to believe there is still a market for this.

Because everything was beautifully hidden by all the gorgeous trees- I had no idea how overdeveloped Captiva has become.

So let's start by you and yours stop coming to south west Florida... that would be a start!
Seriously. That's wrong.

This beautiful island is way to over developed.
