I totally agree with you regarding the UV filter. once I had scratched the front element on my Zeiss Distagon. Zeiss wanted 1k to fix it. Nowadays i prefer to protect my assets, especially with SL lenses.
I used to use protective filters on all of my lenses. I am totally convinced that my shots are better without the filters. If I have a good lens hood I will forego the filter and just be careful. If the lens hood is a pain to use I will often use a filter if I am banging the kit around. It just seems weird to spend 5,000 plus dollars on a lens to only top it off with a 100 dollar piece of glass.
The out of focus problem is the photographers error Around 11:00 You should have focused on the eyes with the Summilux, that way the fall of would start on her cheek which is nice. Don't you use foucs peeking
Yes and actualy you can compare the depht of field as you subject is closer to you .. so of course the depth will be more evident , you should do test on tripod and not moving obejct with same light .. but dont get me wrong ... love you review thanks you so much for sharing your experience
Hi Victor. Really enjoyed your video, and this was exactly what I was looking for - very informative. Maybe you can also do the SL summiux 50mm f1.4 comparison. I also had a question about your photo software that showed different lenses showing different background colors. You've probably set it this way, and what's the program? I actually like this, too. Thank you.
Hi and thank you for your comment. In this video I was using lightroom for my post editing, but I have now switched to Capture One, which in my opinion is a superior software. I would like to compare that 50 summilux, so hopefully Ill be able to produce that video soon.
Yes, I know that's a popular topic. Will add it to the que! I will say that ill be using off brand flashes though. I would HIGHLY suggest NOT investing in Leica flashes. IMO.
Leica SL colors are so much better than SL 2 colors,as I can see from your images.I really don’t understand why someone prefer more megapixels, which at 99% of the cases are useless instead of much better colors ,better low light performance and overall better image quality.
Hi Nick, thank you for your comment. You are actually not the first person to bring up the color difference in the SL 601 and the SL2. I have been meaning to test them simultaneously and compare the results. Because honestly it has been a while since I have worked with an SL 601 file, so will need to test it again to compare. But to that point the reason I made the switch to the SL2 was more so for the video capabilities rather than the mega pixels. To be honest, I actually shoot in Aps-C mode a lot since most of my work ends up on social media and I really do not need the extra megapixels.
The Summilux M seems much more pleasing for portraits with this swirly out of focus background and the kind of softness gives a less digital / clinical look in my eyes. Also i guess the girls like to have a smooth face and not see all the pores in the face^^ For product or landscape photography i guess the SL Summicron Lens is better.
The price for sure, and also the size and weight. I would say both lenses perform amazing, but I rarely find myself shooting at f/1.2, so for me it wouldn't make sense.
Hey Phillip, thanks for your comment! Yes I was, and I agree with you that I definitely missed focus on a few shots. But I was between spot, and face tracking. So could have been a mix of the two.
Hello Victor: First of all, congratulations on your videos. What is your impression of the Nocti 0.95 with the SL2? Another question... Isn't the SL2 more comfortable with its hand grip? Thanks a lot. Greetings from Alicante, (Spain)
Hola Pedro, I really enjoy using the Nocti on the SL/SL2 because of how big and bright the EVF is. It really helps when trying to focus the lens. As for your second question, yes the SL2 I would say is more comfortable because of the extra groove design they implemented in it. I think it was a game changer.
Curious about this too, and how about manual focus assist where it zooms up while focusing, does that work with M lenses on the SL? I have a Panasonic S5, would love to get a 50mm M Summilux on it.
Maybe you ned to learn how to properly focus with a M lens before doing this kind of comparison videos. This is not serious, my friend! Remember this is not doing any good to your credibility.
@@yakattac78 I guess it depends on your style of shooting, I would prefer the 90 for portraits. Just because I really like the compression of the background when using that lens. But again, its a personal style choice.

Ya for the price of a filter, its a no brainer in my opinion. Have to protect that leica glass!

You make a good point, and I do use the focus peaking but only sometimes. It can be a little distracting for me at times.
@@Marcollin Yes, a better test would have been on a tripod with a fixed object, but more of a challenge with a moving one ;)
Excited to try out the sigma 35 f2 and 65 f2
Same, but I keep hearing people complaining that the battery is majorly drained when using sigma lenses. Have you heard of this issue?
@@vqview no battery issues but my 35mm made the camera shoot really slow, like shutter lag, ordered the 28-70 sigma instead.

I'm super curious how the Panasonic 85mm compares to the Leica 90mm and even the Sigma 85mm.

That’s a big a$$ 50mm for not even being 1.4 or 1.2
It sure is expensive...but hard to beat the quality of those Leica lenses 😍
Maybe you should learn to focus manually, and try again...
Hi is the NOCTILUX-M 50 F/1.2 ASPH is better than the SUMMILUX-M 50MM F/1.4 ASPH ? Any advantages of the Summilux ?
