Surface Distribution of Charge
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 чер 2012
- A tear drop shaped conductor on an insulating stand is charged. Charge is scooped up from various points on the surface of the conductor with a proof plane and transferred to an electroscope. It is demonstrated that the charge density is greater at the areas of greater curvature.

Why is the electric field is greater at the tip rather than at the flater area

😲nice
Why is there more charge located at the tip?

Same question
This is an ancient comment, but here you go in case anyone else asks. So as you may know, like charges will always spread out as far as possible from each other to balance out the repulsive forces between each of them. On a charged flat surface/plate, the forces of repulsion run parallel to the surface of the plate. The charges will distribute uniformly over the outer surface of the plate. However, on an irregularly shaped object like the one in the video, the charges will distribute in a different manner over the non-flat surfaces. At more pointed areas of the surface, the repulsive forces from other charges are at an angle to the surface, so the repulsive forces between the charges are smaller (than on a flat surface), so they can gather closer together. Thus, more charge will accumulate on more pointed parts of a surface.
