Living in the Wild, Wild West, USA, we have a Mexican food Feast on Christmas Eve with all our extended family. We each cook something to share. Each year I write a quirky, silly treasure hunt and the children and grandchildren follow the clues. The treasure at the end is new PJ’s for each person to wear that night. I also make Mama Cindy’s Salsa, and home made fudge. Yum! Our neighbor is a professional Santa. He stops by each year. So fun. We are a musical family so we get out our ukuleles, guitars, etc and sing Christmas songs. We end with reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, The Grinch and lastly, the we read the scriptures of the birth of the baby Jesus.

Here are a couple of Christmas traditions from when our kids were little and teenagers. When they were little my husband built a manger/feed box. We placed it under/near the tree. We had a bag of hay in the closet. If they did something kind for someone else without telling anyone they could put a handful of hay in the manger. The idea being the manger had to be full of hay in order for baby Jesus to come. We used this to help decommercialize Christmas as well as encourage kindness as a way of life. Once they were older we switched gears to acts of service. We picked a Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas and opened our home for babysitting for friends with small children. We provided lunch, naps if needed and play and crafts for the day. When parents came to pick up their kids they could have a bowl of soup and homemade bread. Merry Christmas.

Hi Brady and Heather, am new to your channel but what an awesome find! Love the simplicity and wholesomeness of your family. To build a life afresh in a foreign country, let alone reconstructing a barn house into a family house is indeed a monumental task. You have done well. The alphine view of the Italian alp is breathtaking and that is the reward for all the hard work you have put into the barn house.
Stella behavior is abit erratic and concerning. You must think of safety first and seek advise from experts as to how to deal with the situation. I wish you and your family well. May your stay in Italy brings you many fond memories and a more fulfiling life you both seek. God Bless.

Further. Husband and I created multiple homes in Michigan, following our idea to renovate or better a property in some fashion. Husbands building skills were legion, and we spent our weekends and evenings at the latest building project! We even had dinner parties in a partly renovated place! Our friends thought it was great fun! One house construction, we invited all to help raise a couple of 40 ft walls. THAT was quite a feat! Then, we took all out for a burger in thanks! I must say, working in lumber was SO MUCH EASIER than your project!
Enjoy following your dreams! Make it happen! Special times, for sure!

The goat visitors were kind of funny! They move at their own pace and go when they want to go I guess! They have bells and belong to someone there, you may want to have a talk with them! What a sweet Christmas in the main room of your new house! The Christmas Markets all over Europe are so magical and beautiful to see🌟 I know you have family there, but during the many years I lived in Europe, mainly in Koln, Germany, I didn’t miss being in the US. at all. I prefer Europe, which is where all my relatives live. My family in the US are first generation there so it had always been just my Mom & Dad and me and 3 siblings, and we grew up not having any other relatives around, My parents grew up there during Ww2 so they never went back to Germany.

One of the Christmas traditions in our house, was that my mother would buy an ornament with the date on it. By the time my sister and I moved out of the house, we had a beautiful collection of sweet memories to take with us. I strongly suggest that if you choose to do this tradition with your family, is do a wide variety of ornaments. Most of mine when I left home were for little girls! Lol! I still love them.

    • @intherockies

I did this same thing for my kids who are now grown. I tried to make the ornament something they were interested in that year or a movie they had seen.

    Merry Christmas!!! 🎄👼❤️
One of our family traditions before Christmas day is to gather round near the tree and my husband reads the Christmas story out of the Bible. Afterwards the kids take turns drawing one of the nativity figurines without seeing which one and then they place it in the stable. The kids always hope to get baby Jesus. It’s very special! My husband and I hope to carry the tradition on with our grandkids someday as well.

You four are the perfect example of a healthy, happy family. Wonderful Mom and Dad that are laughing with the girls and are not preoccupied with cell phones all day. Families in the U.S.A should take a few lessons from the way you two interact with your lovely girls.. Carry a stick with you pointing down and if the Donkey runs at you, raise the stick and say no. That should work without you ever having to hit her. I have had Horses for 52 years, I have not had one of mine charge me but all Equine I have seen will back away from a 4 or 5 ft. stick and a firm voice.

A happy Christmas and all the best next year to you all…..🎉
I live in Greece and although I’m British I incorporate both traditions….. The Greeks love the Christmas crackers which are placed on the dining table on Christmas Day plus the usual turkey roast potatoes pigs in blankets( little sausages wrapped In bacon) and sage and onion stuffing…. Cranberry sauce….Then plum pudding and brandy in the custard! The children sing a traditional carol on Christmas Eve and another one on New Year’s Eve….I also make the traditional cake for New Year….(a wrapped coin is placed in the cake and the lucky person wins the coin and has good luck throughout the year)
By the way the cake is pre- cut according to the members of the family plus one for the house and one for Christ….
I have to say the the English way of opening the presents on Christmas morning +the lunch above has always been a highlight with the Greek side of my family…

A bit late (or early?), but I liked your question about Christmas traditions. ☺ I'm from Sweden in Scandinavia so our traditions is probably quite different, so maybe they'd interest you! It gets very dark in the winter half of the year here - around Christmas the sun goes down around three in the afternoon and the days get very short, so something we tend to do is have string lights - just plain white LEDs like on your tree - in the garden around the hedges and fencing. Sometimes people put out a tree with just lights in it in the garden as well. For my family, we have a very low key, cosy Christmas that is nearly all about food and making the house as cosy as possible with little lights everywhere instead of using the ceiling lamps much. We drink mulled wine, have rice porridge for breakfast and then we have something called 'julbord' (lit. Christmas table) which is a feast with a lot of small dishes, most of them cold like cured salmon and smoked sausages, with a few traditional hot dishes like Swedish meatballs with Christmas spices and a special potato gratin. And of course there are massive amounts of gingerbread cookes - thin ones with lots of spice with a nice snap to them when you crack them. And I think most families make a gingerbread house, too, with a roof covered in colourful chocolate buttons with lots of icing. 😁

I really enjoy the peace of Christ that you are enjoying this Christmas 🎄 time. Your girls are so sweet and generous. My favorite Christmas tradition growing up was the avant wreath. Lightly up the 4 candles 🕯️ that lead up to Christmas Eve always brought so much joy. And of course reading 📖 the account of Christ coming and the true meaning behind Christmas. May you have a very blessed year. Best wishes with your up coming adventures. 🙏🎄✝️💝🙏

First of all may I wish you, and you little family in Italy a prosperous, happy, healthy, blessed New Year 2023. My Christmases used to be very stressful sometimes I would have a total of 14 people in our house over Christmas and I would be the one doing all the work and every one else enjoying themselves and now we do it with just our family of 5. Also what this had taught me is to bake my Christmas cake a months time in advance and my Christmas plum pudding in a week or two in advance and put it in the freezer to keep. Then the week running up to Christmas I bake my Christmas mince pies a week in advance. As for the dinner like this year, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in the mornings I baked my mince pies. On Thursday I took my Christmas cake and put the marzipan on it then on Friday I iced it. On Friday I roasted my roast beef, which was stuffed with garlic and bacon and rosemary and made my gravy which I stored all in the fridge when cooled till Sunday. On Saturday I roasted my Chicken which was stuffed with bread, onion and herbed stuffing. On Saturday I peeled and cut my carrots ready for Sunday to cook and made Brandy butter for the Christmas pudding. All I had left to do on Sunday was put the rice on, roast the potatoes and cook the carrots and brussel sprouts, I put the plum pudding on to steam (I took it out the night before to defrost) carve how much beef and chicken I needed put them on separate trays lined with tin foil and covered them with foil and heated them slowly in the oven till heated through. Then all I had to do was plate up and serve. By doing a little bit each day and having planned it, I was so relaxed and not hot and bothered by roasting and cooking all on one day. Our tradition is going to midnight mass, then coming home and having some mince pies dusted with icing sugar (they are not meat pies, they are made from raisins etc etc) an English tradition. I am glad you had such a lovely time with your family. Till the next video.

Merry Christmas! I really enjoy Christmas too! When my boys were younger we did 12 days of Christmas, where we did little and big things for 12 days (included were Christmas Eve and Day). That way Christmas was not over too quickly. Love watching your vlogs! You are doing a fabulous job with your girls!
