  • Full Ride-Through of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve.
Witness the exotic animals of Africa up close as they traverse the savanna as you ride in a rugged open-sided safari vehicle. No two safaris are the same as giraffes, lions, antelope, rhinos, warthogs, zebras and other stunning species roam the land.

This ride is my favorite in Animal Kingdom, and I always admire the drivers/guides. It's hard enough driving a truck like that filled with people without seatbelts, and hard enough driving around in an area where animals worth more money than many people see in a lifetime roam "free" and could be accidentally hit, and hard enough to remember all this information about African animals. But to do all 3 at once? THAT is something to admire and respect!

Lucky you; you got to see an elephant playing in the water. When I went on this, a rhino decided to cross the road and stood in front of us for 10 minutes. It pretty much backed up every Safari ride that day.

    2 fun facts:
    1. The time that the man said the Harare reserve has been around science 1971, well Walt Disney World was opened the same year.
    2. Walt Disney was born the same year the bird (at the beginning) was documented, in 1901.

there are hidden boarders that you as a human might perceive as something else, the lions for example there is a moat around them so they don't eat other animals. but as a human you don't see it because of the vegetation. And so people see the animals they put food behind rocks to keep the animals there, the hippos, have a fence that keeps them from the track. Source: Travel Channel

That guide needed to speak just a little bit slower...it would make him sound smarter and more relaxed on the ride. He definitely knew his stuff, past the scripted material though! This was my favorite 'non-thrill' attraction at the Animal Kingdom.

    Fun Fact:
That black bird, vulture looking thing the woman was talking about was actually a black vulture native to Florida.
Since the tour is in "Africa", they aren't even supposed to be in the ride, so they deny knowing what the animal is.

they were pretty much genious when they built this. they built in in such a way that they didnt have to put walls or gates to keep the animals where they want them. instead they used rocks and trees and water as their barrier. as for the lack of animal attacks, that usually happens when animals are not in their natural habitat. they dont know how to hunt and are attuned to us humans feeding them and taking care of them.

The trick for this ride to see a lot of animals is to go early early in the morning or the last time they do this ride. Otherwise the animals are resting or sleeping far away from you the whole afternoon. Next time you go, and you go to animal kingdom, do this ride first thing when they open. Just a tip lol

Does anyone know why they got rid of the unexpected story aspect of the ride? I went back last month after not visiting Disney since 1999 and was really disappointed to find out it was just a normal safari. It felt like it lost a lot of its Disney magic, it doesn't fit in with the theme of conservation anymore (and doesn't tie in with the pre-show video that plays on the monitors throughout the queue), and it made the shaky bridge feel out of place. The tour guides also seemed to interact with the guests a lot less than they did in the videos from many years ago.

    • @TheLewistownTrainspotter8102

I feel it's more because it kinda lost its charm and people are more invested in seeing the animals.

@BunnyxDGiggles Never underestimate the power of Fast Pass! It's a great time-saver for rides like Splash Mountain, Kali River Rapids, and Mission: SPACE, but there are some rides that you don't need to Fast Pass because the line moves fast enough on its own (like Pirates of the Caribbean, Winnie the Pooh, Finding Nemo, etc). And make sure you stop by the American Adventure in World Showcase, EPCOT. There's a fried dough stand just outside with the BEST fried dough in the world!

I wish there'd been an aardwolf or two on the safari ride, even if they couldn't have been able to spot them... during the daylight hours, that is. yes, aardwolves are nocturnal animals, and they sleep in empty aardvark dens. they look so much like hyenas, and they are a type of hyena but a type of hyena that likes to eat termites more than any other animal in Africa.

Back when animal kingdom opened with this ride, there was a storyline about a group of elephants in the preserve. The initial info dump came in the queue, with Warden Wilson talking about a new mother elephant named Big Red, and her baby Little Red. Through the safari you find a poacher camp with a murdered Big Red, go on a high speed chase of an animatronic jeep (now shut off because it kept being struck by lightning), and rescue Little Red. Big Red was removed, with a story rewrite because parents complained that the story was too dark for their kids.
