Everyone has on and off nights. However, I find that phone recordings often make it sound worse than it does in person. This one sounds off more than normal though. Maybe he’s under the weather a bit.
My ex fiancee is a professional opera singer, Soprano. She once told me that out of all instruments that humanity has come up with, singing is the most fragile and "limited" one. Aging, habits, constant touring, stress, anything can alter the way you perform overtime and she was right. Look up Bon Jovi live 2024 or Geddy Lee before Neil passed away.
Journey legacy songs are "Vocal cord" killer and you have to have a "Tenor" voice in order to sing those legacy songs and Arnel seems to struggle hitting those high notes. I know it's easy for us to "critique" Arnel for wearing Steve Perry's colossal shoes but would you rather have the band die or have a good vocal that could give their songs justice. It's been over a decade since Arnel joined Journey as front man, surprisingly, he can still sustain those vocal cords as he suffers from asthma. Let's just enjoy their music while it last and hopefully Arnel doesn't lose his singing voice as he already hit 50+.
