Here, Venkateshwara or Venkatesha essentially means that Vem - sins Kata - destroying Eshwara - Lord. Essentially, the hill is called Venkata (called vikate girim in rigveda) or the hill where all sins are destroyed. So, Venkateshwara essentially means that the Lord of Venkata hills or Lord who destroys the sins of all those coming and seeing him there. Kulasekhara Azhwar explains this as சேடியாய வல்வினைகள் தீர்க்கும் திருமாலே நெடியானே வேங்கடவா. Balaji was given out of the sheer love of Hathiram Babaji with whom Srinivasa played as a child. Srinivasa was also called as a child by Annamayya and other great composers who viewed him as little Krishna just like how Nammazhwar calls திருவேங்கடத்தாயன் or the cowherd (Govinda) who is present in Thiruvenkatam (Tirumala).
