- In 1985, the Cleveland Browns cut long-time veteran wide receiver Ricky Feacher in training camp. What Feacher did next caught everyone, including Browns front office members, by surprise, because not only was Feacher incredibly gracious in accepting this decision, but he did something else that was quite remarkable and unexpected that has to be seen to be believed. Can't imagine a classier and well-handled cut from a team than this one. Wow--This was really impressive. Coaching up and motivating the young receivers who beat him out after being cut is the model of being appreciative of the time he had with the Browns. That's the way to end a career
Why can’t we have more people like him? The dude seems like an extremely nice guy.
Mad respect to Feacher. The dude can literally make word peace if he wanted to. He takes the good with the bad in one of the best ways possible, even if his NFL career ends. We need more people like this guy.
Rickey Feacher was one of my favorite players while I was in High School . He always worked hard, had great hands, and was all about the team. He was the epitome of a class act.
Hate to spoil the mood, but today Ricky is not doing well. He was arrested in 2013 for drug possession and resisting with violence, and got rearrested again in 2020 for drug possession (specifically cocaine iirc) in his hometown of Crystal River. He’s 68 so I hope there’s time for him to turn things around and get some help so he can recover.
Wasnt his second arrest when he was at a facility or incarcerated himself?
@@mikeandreach3777 I know what you’re talking about and no, that wasn’t what the initial arrest was for. What happened was he got arrested and while he was in the intake room, an officer found him with a bag of cocaine. The initial arrest was a separate thing.
That is reality sad to hear. Well, sad to hear about anyone, but in context, especially so here

You can’t argue that was best game in Brown’s playoff history by a WR. Gary Collins caught 3 TD’s in the 1964 NFL Championship Game and lead the Browns to a 27-0 win over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts

2. How in 1990 Browns Interim Coach Jim Shofner took himself out of the running for the permanent job, leading the Browns to hire some guy named Belichick.

It would be nice if JG9 would do a video on "The Classiest Penalty in Washington [Commanders] History." After star safety Sean Taylor was murdered, both the team and fans were devastated. The team decided to do something special to honor him during their first game without him. On their first defensive snap of the ball, the team deliberately lined up with only ten men leaving Taylor's position vacant. It was a touching tribute that was unfortunately lost on the national TV commentators who had no idea what Washington was doing, and only mentioned a few plays later the significance of that penalty. Last year, Taylor's number was officially retired by the team.
I was surprised that he only played three games with New England. I remember him well from that short span.

... But 1st I need to tell you some back story
Seeing this video and discovering that he's from the Tampa Bay TV market just like me gives me a sense of pride. There are so many players that wouldn't have done what Feacher did. I gained a ton of respect for him for how he handled things after Marty Schottenheimer cut him from the roster in '85.
Money can buy a lot of things but class is priceless that's something you can't buy.
What I imagined was the exact opposite. Feacher defines professionalism.

In that '85 draft those WR picks the Browns spent were in the 7th, 8th and 12th rounds. Shane Swanson was the 12th round pick so him never playing in the NFL isn't surprising.

In case this has not been mentioned, there was one other WR for the Browns who had 124+ yards and a TD in a playoff game.
That was Gary Collins, who caught five passes for 130 yards and all three CLE TDs in the Browns 27-0 upset of the Colts in the 1964 NFL championship game. An upset nearly as large as Super Bowl III was at the time. Granted, Collins average was 26 yards per catch, not 30, but his performance was the best in Browns playoff history, pretty much hands down.
Ironically, the losing coach in that game and Super Bowl III was Don Shula. Who would lose SB VI, before finally win back to back Super Bowls in '72-'73.
Can't think of a name of another receiver from MVSU, but I feel so close to guessing, it's like white on Rice...🤔

I'm reminded that the Browns changed their uniforms for the 1984 season and only the 1984 season. They were strange looking. Glad they changed back in 1985.
Yeah, hated the '84 unis. But I'm really old school. I want the current ones to wear white pants most of the time with occasionally going orange for the Sipe era look. But get rid of those brown pants.

Shown at 9:40, that was the logo, which, in 1983, commemorated the Lions' 50th season in Detroit. (The franchise began as the Portsmouth (Ohio) Spartans in 1930, and moved to the Motor City in 1934.)

Funny enough, if Brady does stay retired you could argue he beat it. Left the game on his own terms while still playing at the highest level of the position after over 20 years of success. About as good as you can ask for.

Marty shottenhiemer was one of the dumbest and most overrated coaches ever I bet Ricky Feacher probably had 3 good years left in him maybe he should have signed with Oakland and gotten himself a ring as a reserve.
He was a good guy. I remember going to a few white woman breeding parties with him.

today at the age of 68 he is currently awaiting trial on his 2nd drug possession charge, as while already in custody for another offense he had cocaine on him while in lock-up(not a great job of searching him on the street)....his first arrest was in 2013 for drug possession and resisting arrest....hate to throw shade and i hope he gets his life turned around

Nixon was a graceful loser to JFK in 1960 when he could have contested the Illinois vote that carried JFK over the top despite rumors Chicago Mayor Daley got the votes to defeat Nixon from the cemetery. Nixon for the best of the Country did not contest the Illinois vote and on the day as President of the Senate he had to announce the electoral vote Nixon gave a gracious speech congratulating JFK.
