    Love the tropical garden passion. I started mine around 1993 but never did much. Bamboos have taken over and been removed, trees got to tall and been cut down. Gunnera got to big and had to go. I'm left now with a couple of towering Trackies and a few Tree ferns. This year going on I want to get it all going again. More as border plants. Looking forward to going through the videos for inspiration.

      Thank you very much and it's great to hear a bit about your story - I'm pleased I try to emphasise how big a lot of these plants get in my vids! If you're going to retain any plants though, some tall Trachys and tree ferns would definitely be my choices too where space and maintenance requirements are limited. I imagine with some choice border plants you can really bring some colour and wow factor to your existing specimens and I hope there's some interesting ideas across my vids and the garden tour videos I filmed last year especially. Thanks for watching and happy to help where I can. All the best with it!

    Love the nasturtium's, they keep the caterpillars and blackfly away from your more expensive plants too.
    I've said it before but Polemonium's have done for me this year what nasturtium's have done for you. Will definitely be mixing mine up with nasturtium's as fillers as well next year. Also mind your own business too 😊

    Great video George, agree about the nasturtiums, they've been a godsend for my beginner tropical garden and love the colours especially empress. However, I must give a shout out to nicotiana- even cheaper than the nasturtiums and I have 5 ft tall plants with at 2ft wide leaves! Thanks again for all the helpful advice, videos and posts. Thanks to you, it's been an incredible year even with the crappy weather 😃

      Thanks you very much and apologies, I've just noticed this comment. Nicotiana are indeed even cheaper - I actually sowed a batch of sylvestris but I think it was a bad batch of seeds (or I did something wrong!). They definitely have huge leaves and you get a lot of plant for your money, thanks for your suggestion! That's all very kind of you to say, thank you very much for watching and leaving a message, it is appreciated!

    Another great video from Georges jungle garden, informative and helpful. Yes absolutely the Japanese banana 🍌 Musa Basjoo, is terrific value and certainly gives that tropical look to your garden...... this year I tried growing some sunflowers, very cheap from seed fast-growing look good in the background, behind the palm trees. 🌴 🌻 🌴 🌻 🌴........Must say, The buzzing insects and singing birds, appear to be, trying to interrupt George’s concentration in this video. 👍.

    Glad you mentioned the nasturtiums. I grew mine from seed this year . I had fantastic results from them and they had a beautiful tropical vibe. I put them in with the cannas and everywhere I had a space for them. I've collected the seed pods for next year so hopefully good results again. Might let them climb up the cordyline trunk even. Cheers 👍

    I'm also a nasturtium fan and will certainly try them next year, but for the past couple of years I used another common staple as part of my tropical style underplanting.... the humble busy lizzie. I find it grows anywhere, even in fairly deep shade and provides a continuous pop pf colour.

    • @GeorgesJungleGarden
      @GeorgesJungleGarden  3 роки тому

      Nice one, that’s another great call too! Petunias are great bedding as well if you go for the bright colours but for me it’s the rambling nature and big leaves of nasturtiums that just give it the edge 😃

    Love the foliage combination of ferns against Nasturtiums.
    Another great temporary tall filler is sweetcorn. Incredibly cheap to buy as plugs as well.
    I'll have to look out for some dark leaved varieties too. Sadly I think Arundo donax would too over powering for my tiny garden.

    • @GeorgesJungleGarden
      @GeorgesJungleGarden  3 роки тому

      It does work well for sure. I’ve got some sweet corn further down the garden but suspect the soil there might be too dry for it unfortunately as it didn’t get very tall this year. That was bought as plugs too. Arundo Donax can get to be a bit of a monster, sweet corn definitely looks neater.

    Your videos are class George. I love the "Ticket to the Show" intro to the segment. This year has been my best 🍌🍌 year by some distance. I've had very little leaf shreddage and they've all grown amazing despite the cooler summer . I've thrown so much more feed this year and water at them that I've ever done before. Its made a massive difference. Keep up the great work George. Might I make one suggestion? I'd love to see a palm special video on those 2 stunning palms you have that I could look at all day, the vulcano and the jubutia. They would be at home at Kew Gardens. Cheers mate

      Thanks as always for your kind words! My bananas haven't done very well this year, I underestimated the shade a lot of them are growing in I think, but yours have done so well! Your garden has completely filled out this year, the feeding and watering has definitely helped. I was hoping to have already done a video on those two palms and planted them in July but being ill definitely put me off moving them around (and I wanted to get the garden half tidy for last month). They're currently sat in their pots but I'll either do a vid if I decide to plant them out in the next month or at some point soon, thanks for the suggestion! Happy gardening!

    Great video as always and great choices. I took your advice in an earlier video to plant nasturtiums and wasn't really sure what to expect having never planted or seen them before (total newbie to gardening this year). I bought 2 mixed packets of seeds from B&Q (other stores available 🤣) and planted the seeds straight in as per instructions. Some were 'tall' some were labelled 'Tom Thumb'' etc. Well, they have gone bananas and look so tropical. The larger ones are unreal how big the leaves are and their continued growth rate, almost too much! Will definitely be planting some again next year.

    JUST BUY BOTH THESE 2 AND PLANT
    It's only a few years since I first was aware of Salvia 'Amistad' I saw it promoted over and again amongst the glossy pages of Sarah Raven's Spring/Summer catalogue.
    It looked to me quite nice but not that special. I didn't buy that first time but I bought one from her next Summer catalogue; and by mid November this amazing purple flowering Salvia still thought it was high summer.
    Flowering still like mad after putting up abundant quantities of large flower spike after large flower spike all summer and all autumn the first year it was planted.
    Tried and tested in her own exposed windy heavy wet soil garden (then expected to last for weeks in water as a cut flower)at Perch Hill East Sussex. All this before considered being placed upon a glossy page or given a mention in a video.
    All the plants I've bought out of her catalogue have been good doers. But nothing prepared me for S. 'Amistad' no wonder she promoted it so much.
    No video nor glossy magazine can do it justice. And such a handsomely beautiful exotic plant it is. A magnet for butterflies and bumbles.
    Now she features alongside a very similar Salvia to S. 'Amistad' it's flowers are blue and black and it's amazingly wonderful and easy just like S. 'Amistad' is. Always in flower really worth £4-95.
    Salvia guarantica 'Black and Blue'

      @GeorgesJungleGarden  3 роки тому

      I completely agree Colin, they're great plants and keep on going for so long. In an area of gardening where so many other plants take a lot more care for a shorter display that definitely makes them special! I might add some more Salvias in next year...

    Great video again .
    After watching your video late January this year which started off my addiction to tropical plants . With your advice .
    I bought from Turn it Tropical.
    Musa & Ensete both from 9cm pots both under a tenner .
    Musa is 5 feet with leafs 2 feet amazing structures .
    I have 3 pups growing from the route ball .
    I bought other musa so have 5 in the garden they all have pups from the ground .
    Advice on over wintering them .
    Will you be doing a video on how you over winter yours ?
    Cheers Wayne 👍

      They could definitely be a close second place - you get loads of plant for the money!
