Maybe there is some higher math function i am not aware off, but it quite bothers me that he is using a square root symbol as means to write a division symbol.
Joris Janssen Don't know why you ask me. But yes, you need to have the badge in question in order to be eligible to receive free trading cards and stuff, whenever someone else crafts a badge. There is no guarantee you'll get anything.
Joris Janssen Each game with a badge potentially lets you get free cards. Getting badges will also increase your steam level, which means you have a higher chance of getting those free cards. Honestly, its not worth the effort. You won't be getting a lot of free cards, unless you are extremely lucky, and you are probably better off just playing the regular lottery if you hope to make money from this.
It was also explained by Valve that there is a "Bad Luck" filter added into the drop chances (it wasn't said when this was added, however). For example, to qualify for a drop you must log in to Steam at least once per week. Any week in which you do not log in, removes your eligibility from the following week. But say you log in every week (and it's been shown that the more games eligible the better your chances), for each week in which you do not recieve a card drop, your drop rates (for all eligible games) will increase the next consecutive week (by an undisclosed percentage) until you do recieve a drop or fail to log on for one week. This is also the reason many people recieve drops after obtaining levels 10, 20 etc, as the extra 20% is then added to their climbing drop percentage, which after many months can cause a significant jump.
***** that is very annoying. My mate has been on steam one month more than me, same level, but has had 4 booster packs. and he has less games than I do.
The math is wrong. It only looks ok because a relatively high number of eligible players is used. His formula: / (so i switched the 2 values so a divide looks better) Example on his logic: 2 players are eligible => 1 / 2 = 50% chance. So far so good. He is level 102 vs a level 5 => 3 / 2 = 150% chance!?!? The description used to be, you have a base chance of 5 entries. Every 10 steam levels you get 1 extra entry. This means with 2 low level players, you have 5 out of 10 chance to get the booster pack (is 50%). Now, if a player is level 100, you get 10 extra entries (is 15 total) => 15 / 20 = 75% chance (vs low level player). I am not sure IF they still use this method, but whatever they use, the formula shown in this video is incorrect. Though, this still means you have a very low chance of getting a booster pack when alot of people are eligible. High level players mainly get a booster pack on a regular basis because they are eligible for so many games and thus increase their odds (if you have a 1000 eligible games, you got a 1000 times a chance on a booster pack).
thanks for explain that. how do you think steam could improve the system? I think they should have an opt-in for the card system. loads of card and packs are probably wasted on people who don't care about them. hell i had a shit ton of stuff in there and i'm only now researching it.
This is an eye opener at how slim the odds are. Amazing work. I'm level 12 and eligible for a lot of booster packs but I've only gotten two of them since the trading cards where introduced but never realised how slim the odds where, I just thought I was unlucky.
This video is extremely informative. I have a question though. Does the badge crafted effect which booster pack is given? For example, someone crafts a TF2 badge, is a TF2 Booster Pack given out??
Hello, you that if 500 are eligible for a booster pack, then the odds of you getting one (if you're bellow level 10) are 0.2, well I kinda believe this is wrong because, it is almost impossible for each and everyone of those 500 to be below 10.I mean that if 499 people are below 10, then the chance of one of them getting a booster pack is 499 x 0.2 = 99.8% and if the other one is above level 10, then the chance of them getting it would be 0.22 and adding those chances up gives a 100.02%.Which in my opinion would mean that either each person has a certain probability of getting a booster when a badge is crafted, meaning that it is possible for everyone who's eligible for a booster pack to get one(I think it doesn't work that way but had to mention it anyway) or it would mean that the denominator of that fraction shouldn't be "eligible users" but the sum of everyones "level percentage" For example: there are 10 people eligible for a booster pack and they have the following levels: 12,2,3,56,23,85,4,5,12,35 the denominator of the fraction that would give us the chance of a
Damn, i'm pretty much level 19, only 1 level away from level 20. I know it will only marginally increase my chances, but its better than nothing. Been a long time since I got a booster pack.
so would that mean the less people have played a certain game, the bigger the chances of anyone who has played it to get a booster pack when someone crafts a badge for that game?
Hi, I would like to add that you forgot to mention the "bad luck" factor. According to Steam, if a user did not get a booster pack for weeks or even months, his chances of getting them is higher. in the next few days or weeks. Of course the Steam Level also comes to play here. You might want to take that into consideration as well.
so, i just crafted a badge today after watching this vid and i received this coupons.. do you have any idea of how the pricing works if trading with cards? and what does [H],[W] means i kept seeing in discussions. ty
***** i'm not saying it's a bad habit, i honestly like different things and the day i posted the comment was the first day i came across your channel, surprisingly. i can't help but inquire about the unusual things i notice. you shouldn't put it as "bad", just think of it as nonstandardized (i hope that's what you mean with the three-lettered-word anyway x'D). i know i have some odds as well, like not separating words in syllables when the line i write on is at the end (i write them entirely). thank you very much :D
cool explanation - so far I have only gotten 2 booster packs in like a couple of months both for the same game and they were worth just a bit over $2 each Idk how good that is but it was cool.
200/100 is NOT equal to 2+1 wich is equal to 3. What you are saying is that 200/100=3. You have to seperate them, so first: 200/100=2 2+1=3 Not 200/100=2+1=3
Great job man really loved it! Thanks for breaking it down. Btw I have gotten 2 booster packs after I got to lvl 15 but it was really spaced out. Also do u wanna friend me on steam and play sometime?
not if its a really small game that virtually nobody cares about outside of trading cards, if its a larger game like undertale or payday 2 for example, then yes you would be extremely lucky because of how many people play the game.
Maybe there is some higher math function i am not aware off, but it quite bothers me that he is using a square root symbol as means to write a division symbol.
I suppose whatever works for you :) It just kinda goes against my math sensibilities :)
But thank you for the video, nonetheless :)
+Kajan451 So basicly you can only get one at random when you already have one and a person crafts one? please awnser
Joris Janssen Don't know why you ask me. But yes, you need to have the badge in question in order to be eligible to receive free trading cards and stuff, whenever someone else crafts a badge. There is no guarantee you'll get anything.
So you increase the chance everytime you get more badges? (sorry if I don't understand Im not english)

√ is not a division symbol...
once it was

Thanks for the info. Been on steam for 2years and been wondering how I am not getting any booster pack
Otaku Lewis Yea it's kind of depressing when you figure out your chances.
is a really rare thing for me. I got one in 3 years
Buy something like 1-dollar bundles on Fanatical (used to be Bundle Stars) that usually contain 20-30 games.
Remember more games = more packs
I've never had a booster pack. Since May 2012 no sign of any. Been having to buy my cards for higher levels and more chance :(
***** I am a level 11 with 11 games eligible.
***** I'm surprised I haven't. I'm on steam every day and I play games on them all the time. Do i need to be playing the game to earn a pack for it?
***** that is very annoying. My mate has been on steam one month more than me, same level, but has had 4 booster packs. and he has less games than I do.
it's very annoying haha
339 games eligible for booster packs, level 71 i've only recieved 1 booster pack total :ii
Anywhere I can see the percentage of the default boosterpack drop for the specific game?
The math is wrong. It only looks ok because a relatively high number of eligible players is used.
His formula: / (so i switched the 2 values so a divide looks better)

Can we have a list of games with low to free prices that we can get cards?
That just solved alot of problems. but I cant get a booster pack for a game i do not own right?
thanks for explain that. how do you think steam could improve the system? I think they should have an opt-in for the card system. loads of card and packs are probably wasted on people who don't care about them. hell i had a shit ton of stuff in there and i'm only now researching it.

I'm level 40 and have been on steam longer than cards have existed and have only gotten one pack lol
if im not wrong but isnt 500 divided by 1 equal 500
it's 1 divided by 500
So do the odds also go down if the other people are high levels, or can more than 1 person get a booster pack for a badge crafted
This video is extremely informative.
I have a question though. Does the badge crafted effect which booster pack is given? For example, someone crafts a TF2 badge, is a TF2 Booster Pack given out??

there are 10 people eligible for a booster pack and they have the following levels:

the denominator of the fraction that would give us the chance of a
So say I was the only one to buy a game,I got the badge, would I get the drop?
I'm trying to understand what is a booster pack and what is it used for?
He told you in the begining to watch the first part, when he explains the booster packs...
i dont have any booster pack and i wait for so long time to get one and i level 4 pls explain me pls
0:05-0:12
*His hand was so still I thought the video froze but the audio was still going*
Damn, i'm pretty much level 19, only 1 level away from level 20. I know it will only marginally increase my chances, but its better than nothing. Been a long time since I got a booster pack.
wouldnt your odds also decrease when there is more higher level accounts that are eligible
That was actually very helpful. Thanks for the math breakdown. :)
so would that mean the less people have played a certain game, the bigger the chances of anyone who has played it to get a booster pack when someone crafts a badge for that game?
Yes, but it also means far less booster packs are being created, so you would see them just as rarely.
So basicly you can only get one at random when you already have one and a person crafts one? please awnser
You don't need to have a booster pack just all the card drops used per game.
So if you have more trading cards you have more chance to get a boosterpack?
+Joris Janssen No, your chances are only detrmined by your steam level and the fact that you have no more card drops for the game.

***** Oh i see, im new to steam just lvl 6 atm and starting to know much more about how everything works. thx
Thanks for the info, and such an fast reply to my question :D i Hit lvl 20 today, was already waiting for loads of Boosterpacks
***** It wasnt. It was more than obvious and could be easily understood if he knew basic maths.
Wow man, They say you get a 20% boost for every level, they didn't say anything else. how am i able to know all the rest?
FlyingNinjaBoar 20% boost of your chances of getting a pack. Common sense, your chances could be increased by 1000% and still not get any pack.
Steam wasn't really clear about that. There are other with those Questions too
uhhm im always on my steam all drops i did get and im level 5 but you mean login on the site or the program?
... the site or the steam program? that was my question xD
im always on the programm so xd
may i ask where did you learn to use the root symbol in such a way? i mean where as in what field of study? if math, what type of it? thanks :D
Wow, I got a booster pack today and I'm currently only level 5. I can't imagine how low my chances were LOL
Tia Harribel depends on game, if it was like on tf2 then yes like %0.00000000005 lol
Ohh btw., you're writing squared by instead of divided by? ;)
No that's also the division scheme
Dat intro doe... LOL
My Grammarly is yelling at me
cool explanation - so far I have only gotten 2 booster packs in like a couple of months both for the same game and they were worth just a bit over $2 each Idk how good that is but it was cool.
Man that's complex stuff, currently lvl 18, no packs, don't think I'll be seeing any for a while haha!! Thanks for another great explanation though :)
One per week is insanely often. I need to use up all my drops haha
Level 7, been on steam for 5 years, eligible for 5 game booster packs. Never got any. Guess ,,anti-bad luck'' system ain't exactly working.
So I haven't gotten a Booster Pack for 10 years because of this... YAYAYAY! (I have 10 years of service on Steam)
lol i watched your video and got booster pack for cs go .D
and can i get special card from booster pack ?
yes. But your chance are near to 0
+Ermy its 0.00001 lol
200/100 is NOT equal to 2+1 wich is equal to 3. What you are saying is that 200/100=3.
You have to seperate them, so first:
200/100=2

Not 200/100=2+1=3
seriously! u said that?
Are you from Newfoundland?
TO MUCH MATH, MY BRAIN CAN'T HANDEL THIS!
Nice video.
No prob
Okay i tried to understand that thing with the lvl, only thing my brain will save is higher lvl=more chance. Thanks! Greets+Sub from Germany!
Great job man really loved it! Thanks for breaking it down. Btw I have gotten 2 booster packs after I got to lvl 15 but it was really spaced out. Also do u wanna friend me on steam and play sometime?
Last year i was lvl 10 and i got 1 booster pack after 2 month's that i got to lvl 10, And today i am lvl 21, And i got a booster pack after 1 week.
THETYLER113 LY Nice! Hopefully the luck continues.
Love this video thanks for explaining!!
theres no cap?
So... For There To Be A %100 Percent Chance Of All 500 People... That Means That 50,000 Badges Have To Be Made At Once?? **All 500 People Level One**
thanks :)
im lv 20 i think and i didnt get any boosterpacks jet :(
I am level 90 and I got like 74 eligible games and I never received a booster pack xD
got to level 20 in the summer adventure just cause I knew about your video :)
***** You are not the real Pie Trap
so other feel sort of scammed by steam here or is it just me ?
great video now I understand why I never seen anything anymore .
I got a booster pack , and im level 36 i think may have been lucky :)
I'mmmm not so good in maths, but great video, I never had any problems getting booster packs but I'm a really patient guy, level 40 also :D
It is, and maybe the only one I got :D
I got level 10 and 34 minutes later i got a don't starve booster pack
You are real genius and cool youtuber, how dont u have 100k++++++ subs?U just look like the big youtubers but u have low subs :(
My friend got one and he wasn't even lvl 5 xD
Thanks for the info, very appreciated :)
I just got 2 booster packs in my whole life...
I still don't know wtf these are for.
So if i once get an booster pack it means im one of the most lucky persons of the world?
GG Steam, we love and hate you...
not if its a really small game that virtually nobody cares about outside of trading cards, if its a larger game like undertale or payday 2 for example, then yes you would be extremely lucky because of how many people play the game.
Still...the chance still is incredibly low.
Awesome vid as usual
so if 25 000 people its like 0.025 %
if all the people are level 1 yes. If they are level 100 much much less
ok now all make sence
That's too much for my brain
Aww.
I got 2 from the same game.. in 2 weeks, kek.
+AyEsGee level 20 lol
+AyEsGee Makes sense. It was an indie as fuck game
+AyEsGee i get games free codes i sell 3 then get a booster pack an hour later containing a foil then i died on the floor
thats why u should buy shitiest games almost nobody plays, i already got a booster pack and im only lvl 20
insane, im level 100 and i havent got any boosterpacks in 4 years
Rly? im lvl 50 and i have gotten 2 booster packs this week.
even though i've got 195 games and around 100 of them have 500 active players, it's still rare that i have gotten 2 booster packs in a week.
i dont remember what one of them was called because i unpacked it, but the other one is called PlanCon: Space Conflict Booster Pack.
why are you wondering?
terria,. Seriously. Terria. it's pronounced tear-ar-e-uh
niceeeeeeeee
