- In the championship match of the 2006 Dydo Japan Cup, Walter Ray Williams Jr. defeated Pete Weber with a 289 game, breaking the all-time PBA Tour titles record. The win was Williams' 42nd title, breaking a tie with Earl Anthony.
Williams has since won five more times on the PBA Tour for a record 47 titles.

If Belmonte had to bowl on the short oil Walter Ray started out on, he'd not even be able to keep the ball on the lanes. The game has gotten easier because high scores are more important than anything else. The game is one hell of a lot easier than it was when Don Carter and Dick Weber were bowling on wooden lanes with shellac or lacquer finishes. If Earl Anthony had the benefit of the lane surfaces and equipment used today, he'd have had 200 titles. I'm a nobody and my average went up around ten pins every time they changed lane surfaces, ball materials, and and conditioner patterns to make scoring easier. Rubber. Felt Wick Lane Conditioning Machines. Polyester. Urethane. Droplet Head Lane Conditioning Machines. Reactive Resin. Proactive Resin. Phenolic Pin Decks. Synthetic Lane Heads. Full Synthetic Lanes. 25, 50, 100, and 250+ Lane Conditioners. Add it all up and comparing bowlers across eras is just plain silly. All one need do is look at the Plastic Ball PBA Tournaments to know modern bowlers, especially two-handers, are good in this era on this condition, and are terrible on the conditions Walter Ray started on.

It had to be so tough mentally against Walter Ray. You knew going in that he simply wasn't going to throw a 'bad' shot. It was more about whether you could out carry him. Because mistakes just weren't likely to come.
