Chris [Whitley] was a buddy of mine. I toured with him. We banged on Nationals together. I miss him dearly. So when I see a great talent such as Bonamassa learn on of Chris' songs and perform it in his own interpretation and tribute...I really appreciate that. There will only be one Chris Whitley. And because Joe mentions him, maybe some people will check out Chris' music. It's amazing the fan base he's gotten since he passed away. So, let it build. And hats off to Bonamassa for this.
His Daughter Trixie has a different vibe but has a lot of her dad's mojo . She is magic just like her dad was. If only he had lived to see how great she would become. I wish I could hear them doing a song like Strong Blood together . RIP CHRIS , you are missed.
seen the man 4 times and just gets better every time, true talent.met him at Bristol coulston hall, had time for my boys and my wife who was just out of hospital true gent with time for his fans. gives down to earth a new meaning, thanks Joe and all of your gang.
"Phone Call from Levenworth", "Poison Girl" , and "Kick the Stones" are some of my favorites. Had his album in '91 and still one of my favorites all time.
I love seeing vintage acoustic guitars on GuitarCenterTV. Everyone seems to play Taylors because of their perceived quality. You can tell he knows his guitars, it is one of his many many "children" as he puts it.
Best song ever. Great tribute to Chris Whitley. This version is almost as good as the one on Joe's Live at the Vienna Operahouse cd, if that's even possible!
I love that he makes a shout out to Chris Whitley. I"m loving Chris's daughter, Trixie. Check her out in Black Dub or on her solo EP, Live at Rockwood Music Hall. Great stuff.
Very nice guitar, sounds great. Most people talking about the acoustics here need to realize this guitar will sound better then any brands acoustic model of any degree simply because it has had a chance to age. With acoustic guitars the more the wood drys out the better it ends up sounding. Also everyone forgot to mention Guild, there acoustics are amazing as well.
I asked for a good quality capo at Guitar Center here in South Florida approx. 3 months ago and this is exactly the one the sales guy brought to me. So not sure it is an older model.
bonamassa took the song and killed every inch of soul that was in it...I usually really like Bonamassa and it was a decent effort but Whitley was definitely from another planet
I don't think so. The capo in the video has a wavy texture to it. I've seen a lot of artists use that specific model. I just can't figure out what brand it is. Thanks for your comment anyway!
Gotta love Joe, but there's only one Chris Whitley. This is an excellent rendition though, I need to learn it on the guitar like him because I have no banjo lol :)
I'm with you on the vintage acoustics because nothing will beat a vintage Gibson or Martin, but don't bash Taylors. Taylor makes an incredibly good acoustic guitar compared to some of the garbage that is made today. That said, the sound of his guitar makes me extremely envious
Taylors are quality. Gibsons vary: some are good, some not. You have to pick and choose, whereas Taylor has excellent quality control. For guitars less than a thousand dollars there is no largely no competition to a Taylor. But I can see why some people want to pooh-pooh them, because they are everywhere.
I hate saying something silly, like "Once in a generation..." but really, this kind of talent? Once in maybe two generations. Saw him in Vienna, and there were times when all of the air seemed to go out of the place. I'm young, 25, and, no, I didn't see Clapton & Cream, but I've memorized everything they did -- It seems cluttered and rushed and blurred next to JB.
Cale, Joe keeps pretty true to Chris Whitley's version with this. I've been blessed to see Joe play this live on several occasions and I assure you, it takes your breath away.

I started listening to Chris when 'Living with the Law' came out I never stopped. I was lucky enough to see him 3 times in London. So missed.

One of my favourite songs. Loved Chris' music and love what Joe has done here. CHEERS !!
Honestly dude after seeing joe mentioned him(Chris) I’ve not stopped listening to him what a phenomenal writer, player and singer
seen the man 4 times and just gets better every time, true talent.met him at Bristol coulston hall, had time for my boys and my wife who was just out of hospital true gent with time for his fans. gives down to earth a new meaning, thanks Joe and all of your gang.
Now thats a great sounding acoustic in the hands of a a very talented player. Can't get any better than this.
"Phone Call from Levenworth", "Poison Girl" , and "Kick the Stones" are some of my favorites. Had his album in '91 and still one of my favorites all time.

you're missing the point..........Infatuation with the instrument says nothing about the one that is bringing it to life.....
Why can't people just enjoy the talent..who care who played it first etc. This man is amazing. Leave it at that..sit back and listen and enjoy.
Great job Joe you did this song justice
seen this amazing talent on two occasions and he blows you away everytime!!! cant wait for his next visit to UK
Perfect, just perfect!!! BonaAngel's singin'. Beautiful song!!! LOVE it!!!!!!!
This is good stuff!! My trip through the blues is never ending!!! I like it.
keep saving the blues joe!
Wow🎉
Best song ever. Great tribute to Chris Whitley. This version is almost as good as the one on Joe's Live at the Vienna Operahouse cd, if that's even possible!
Couldn't agree more
LOVE this song and LOVE Joe Bonamassa!!!!
Amazing song
This dude is awesome!
Joe led me to Chris Whitley through his Spotify playlists. Somewhere I read a comment that Dirt Floor is a desert island album. I agree.
Bam! Excellent sir!
Lovely. 😊
Dang, that is a really nice tune!
boo hoo for those that find anything lacking in this JB performance. I CAN stand it, Thanks Joe!
nice ..such pitch and edicate style. perfect
Very nice. Best Bonamassa, give me some more...
Great song.
grande joe...!!!
great tune

I watched JB grow up. No bigger fan than I. Totally agree with you on this. There's no one that can interpret Chris Whitley on a comparable level.
I love my Guild more than words can describe. Most people on this channel use high end Taylor's for acoustic sets.
I love Chris Whitley and this is a damn fine cover!
He put off tons of weights!! Good for you Mr. Bonamassa.
SOLID!
superbe guitariste
he is the man
sweet cover :)
ah Bonamassa´s guitars...
its a kyser. Just an older model one. If you search "kyser capo" on google images they have a couple pictures of them
genius!
Your comment was in the style of Beavis & Butthead. That's why I like it. :-)
Superb bro 😉😆

This sj 200 in joe hands ... god
Can somebody tell me which brand of capo he's using?
I'm with you on the vintage acoustics because nothing will beat a vintage Gibson or Martin, but don't bash Taylors. Taylor makes an incredibly good acoustic guitar compared to some of the garbage that is made today. That said, the sound of his guitar makes me extremely envious
720p....thats where all the magic happens
j200 guitar sweet as fuck! il have to make do with d epiphone ej200 lol.
Amazing player
I wish there was an accurate tab for this song because Trying to work it out is such a drag.
Have you tried slowing the speed down to 50 or even 25% in the settings of the video? I find that really helpful. Good luck & enjoy!
it's cake after 500+ attempts ;-)
nice old Gibson.
I thought this song was written by Ben Carson. Oh well, learn something new every day...
What microfone is he singing to?
I think JB's intent is for people to check out Chris' music. So If you are a JB fan, you should.
Is that in standard tuning?
Bonamassa plays is a better musician than Chuck Norris is =)
chris whitley rip

sounds like badlands...
wanna be most likable: he is the oldGibsonman))
"who you callin' pinhead?"
i just learned to play this! not that hard actualy
you don't say
The secret is the gum in his mouth.
I think he kind of looks like adele
The gum has a pud of weed inside
Ok he needs to try harder jesus. This is the same vocal cadence and notes as "dustbowl" only the chords and lyrics are different
Cale, Joe keeps pretty true to Chris Whitley's version with this. I've been blessed to see Joe play this live on several occasions and I assure you, it takes your breath away.
it's to keep your mouth wet
I don’t care how hard he play but still John Mayer is the best !
He should learn bit of songwriting from John !
Florida a Joke,
Love you Joe, but that gum has got to go. Nobody wants to see it in your mouth. Ew.
!!!
