The 000-42 was introduced in 1938, but only 112 of the guitars were reportedly made before World War II forced the model to be discontinued in 1943. And that was that.
Well, until Eric Clapton used a 1939 000-42 to record his MTV Unplugged concert in 1992. The resulting album was a bona fide juggernaut that arguably kicked off the incredibly popular acoustic mania of the ’90s. The Martin 000-42 didn’t fare too badly, either, as it became highly prized-especially vintage ones, such as this 1939 model purchased from Guitar Center by none other than Grammy-nominated bluesman and guitar collector Joe Bonamassa.
“This 1939 000-42 is special, because they didn’t make a lot of them,” says Bonamassa. “It’s one of my favorite Guitar Center Vintage finds. Look at this custom-made ‘strap lock.’ Somebody obviously went into a hardware store in the 1940s, and just screwed this bolt into the neck. I wouldn’t suggest doing that, but I think it’s one of the coolest parts of this 000-42, because this little screw-eye bolt is about as old as the guitar itself.”

I’m thinking that collectors that are not celebrities never get a chance at these gems. Joe just happened to get this 39 000-42 and his 41 000-45 from two different Guitar Centers. He must always be at the right place at the right time. Would be nice to leave some of these rare instruments for normal non- celebrities who can never buy these from these musicians because money is not a motivating factor and have no way of contacting them to even ask. I saw the “coming soon” on this guitar in IG. Problem is, it never came. I would have purchased this.

I’ve had Martin Dreadnoughts for over 45 years. I got my first 000 Martin 3 years ago and I am amazed at how much fun they are and how the slightly smaller size makes it easier and more comfortable to play

One hundred years from now a hell of a lot of so-called modern acoustic guitars will have aged and the wood mellowed to the point where they have increased in value dramatically compared to their original list price.

It's not a bad way to introduce Martin 000 guitars to the public.
There's some history here, and a good professional demonstration involved when you do it this way.
