My First Time Racing The Nurburgring AT NIGHT

- This is the Nurburgring 24 hour Qualifier - easily the biggest race I've ever competed in. My stint would take place as the sun was setting and would therefore be my first chance to race the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife at night!

I'm still not over the fact that this man went from sim racing to driving GT4 in the span of what seems like a few years. Not only that, but he'll be participating in the N24 in a few weeks. I can't wrap my head around it. Been a fan since the og FM7 days and been watching the progress in the cart racing all the way to now. I'm so proud of super GT/Steve and hope he keeps climbing the ladder. Can't wait to see him in GT3 and beyond
And he did not win a single gt7 world tour.
This isn't any sort of knock on any on the guys, but I do feel the need to point out that a huge part of the fascination of N24h and NLS is club and amateur racing. If this sorta vid gets you passionate about it, you absolutely can make it happen for yourself too!
Again, not to take anything away from anyone, but just to explain why NLS and N24h are so fascinating. It's not just professional racing. It's passion projects and car clubs and racing veterans and all sorts of people.
@@_SpamMe Definitely not a knock, but very inspiring to know!
Feels like last year he was still racing on controller...
Honestly looks like he's been doing it all his life - it's that decisiveness and the seemingly complete absence of fear. There are far less talented drivers than Steve or Jimmy in GT3s, just saying...
I’m constantly telling my mate, Steve’s one of the most underrated drivers in existence. The more pressure you put on him the more dangerous (in a good way) he gets 🤷♂️
He definitely steps up when he gets pressured or has some kind of loss against him. Getting screwed by the limiter sparked some of that fire in him
Not to take away anything from Steve, first off. But have you ever heard of Cleetus McFarland? Big UA-camr, and probably the most innately talented wheelman on the planet today. He drag races, he does circle track, he does drifting, he hopped into a trophy truck race and nearly won, on his first time racing those trucks. He's also done well in competitive speedboat races. He flies planes, he flies helicopters.... all at a very high skill level. Basically, if it's got a motor and a driver's seat, Cleetus can hang with the best of them while having decades less experience on the particular vehicle.
@@bbbbbbb51 and it was an incorrect fuel strategy that gave us the Wipperman Move. Steve I'm starting to think the BF boys are winding you up on purpose...
@@theKashConnoisseur I don't think he has the self discipline to race the Green Hell as it's just about having fun for him. He'd get bored out of his skull if he had to do more than half an hour.
@@mikehipperson I dunno, getting your pilots license takes months of dedicated study and hard work. Not to mention he spent a year re-building a race track. And the multiple years it took for him to build his channel to what it is today. It's worth remembering that Cleetus plays a character on camera. It's pretty obvious to me that the actual man behind the character is as hardworking, driven, and dedicated as anyone I've ever seen.
I remember when you drove the McLaren GT4 years ago Steve. In that video you said "Any time you're in a car, it's an audition". Look at where you are now. I will never forget that, and it's something I've remembered and try to apply ever since.
4:45 what an immense moment highlighting the difference in speed between classes.
A hare passing a tortoise then comes by a rocket!
What were the classes?
@@thunderbug8640 what I found online (regarding 2019) in summary was:
- There are 23 classes sub divided into 3 groups: Specials, productions and cup
- Specials are GT3/GT4 including others grouped into engine capacitance and turbo/non-turbo.
- Production cars close to unmodified
- Cup for BMW, Caymens and KTMs.
Going down the straight this could be been the difference of 120, 150 and 180mph + at a guess.
TBH this might not be 100% accurate as I've only been loosely following the event.
@@unsaltedskies Thats a lot of classes, i did wonder with so many cars on the grid. Thanks for the info 🙂.
@thunderbug8640 For that clip it was a M240i (yellow car), SP8T GT4 car (me) and a Porsche Cup 2 car (middle)
As a hint for the sun, put a strip of duct tape across the top of your visor. When you need to block the sun, you tip your head down a bit, job done. Used it in sprint cars for years where you see the setting sun in the corner every 12-15 seconds.
Dude is living my dream
You putting in the hours to make it happen???
@DjukeduEighty8 yeah, building my diy sim rig right now.
@@JosephDAndrea0121 That’s wassup, got content on it?? Would love to show support. Idk why my original comment wont let me edit
@DjukeduEighty8 I will when it's done.
11:05 the upshift as he goes past you ❤ such a nice sounding car

I discovered your channel recently and all I can say is I'm here to stay.. top guy!
Welcome to the fan club!
Welcome to the channel mate!
Welcome to the club!
Controversial opinion here, but I think GT3s, even though they get a lot of coverage, are still underrated.I think most people don't understand how fast these guys go through corners and how close the fighting gets. In Le Mans its supposed to be the slow class, but seeing actual Lambo's, 911s, Ferraris and BMWs fighting it out with massive amounts of traffic is top notch for me. I don't know a racing series more interesting and daring than NLS/N24 at the moment. Apart from rally, but that is different all together.
Ok, old companion here from Manuel Metzger (Yes, he is that "new/profi" guy next to our YT-Favs"). I was racing against Manuel Metzger for almost a decade. This guy was above every expected pace wherever we went to. I believe that the very nerdy, european IndoorKartSector is operating on the highest Racing Level around and he simply owned it! So Steve f.e., don´t even think about being able to beat him at karting :D and now we get to the very important, he was always one of the friendliest and smartest people around! An absolute pitty that I was so young before I really got into touch with him at the tracks. Manu, your success untill now made me already so happy and now I´m just speachless to see you next to my, I really don´t know how to call these guys filling up my 30 minutes before I go to bed "stars" :D:P
btw, you, SuperGT! I did beat you in that one race we had :P Me it was P1, you´ve been the first....:P
This is one of the very best videos you’ve ever released Steve. Totally gripping & absolutely fascinating. You are living all our dreams.
Obviously this is from the eye of not a racing expert but I feel like Steve has the ability to withstand pressure a lot better than 99% of other drivers in the world. It feels like the guy never makes mistakes and even if he does he regroups from it incredibly quickly. Pressure seems to have no effect on this man which is a rare quality.
Good prep for the Buckmore 24hr I heard
The REAL event
8:00 impressive reaction time and execution
Big fan from the USA. Hope all is well and hope for all the success. Look forward to watching you one day reach and then conquer the 24hr at Daytona and Le Mans
Steve's gaming videos make him come off as a seasoned professional, class act, entertainer, and humbled person. I hope he carries that throughout his racing career. He'll gain wide respect and admiration of fans and his competitors.
i love it, the steve brown bilstein m4 vs the Felix von der laden Griesemann Supra in the beginning… i just love it, two of my fav racing youtubers (i am german, watching english and german youtubers) and with that i mean real racing and sim racing
Wait, is Felix driving again?
@@quickgurke i think
@@quickgurke i dont know for sure tho
If I was presented a once in a lifetime chance to go back in time, I would take this video and go back to the those who thought video game/sim racing wont amount to anything and show them this video. great fucking racing.
Well, seeing as the vast majority of sim racers never get these chances, I'd say that those people still have a point, especially if they are parents trying to get their kids to do homework or other important daily responsibilities instead of gaming 10 hrs a day. And the truth is, having a large social media following gets you a lot more opportunities than having no following and being really good at sims. If Jimmy and Steve had no followers/subscribers, they'd both still be driving karts in the UK instead of GT4 machines in Germany.
Driving against the sun on the street is annoying enough but on a track. That sounds scary. Another great video, we’re all proud of you mate
This is such an amazing opportunity!! 👏 😁 🏎
I've wanted to go to Nurburgring since I was 10 back in 2006. Amazing video and here early, too.
First and foremost I love all your content and watch it religiously!!!!
I feel pride having watched a fellow racing game enthusiast making it to irl racing.
I feel like you should do your voice-over commentary for irl racing content as well though, just my personal opinion. It’s too good to leave out.
Much love brother you are doing awesome!!!
yeah i miss the commentary in the irl races
As an F1 fan, Im hardly ever impressed by “Speed”. But the GT4 is actually a serious challenge, the Gt3s are just insanely fast for such a tough narrow track. Hats off to you Steve. I have gained tremendous respect and i will be definitely watching the N24
I’m so happy for you man, you are doing amazing and seem comfortable and sensible in a hectic situasion, a key ingredient to the recepie of winning! Go go go! 🏁
I am living vicariously through your videos. Thanks for bringing us along. Love it!
Great footage man! I appreciate the original sound with the text over, it really shows what's it like in a proper race. It also helps not falling asleep :) Cheers!
Banger content as usual Steve 🙏 keep getting em!!
I love watching these races you’ve been doing lately, I’m so jealous! Fantastic stuff mate, well done
Amazing race Steve, is great too see you driving around this track with so many fast cars.
Love the work, keep it up
Love the content. Brilliant to see the Nurburgring in gritty detail
Love watching you race, been a trackside marshal last year at one of the last NLS races and have been there with the qualifiers. You even included 2 dutch posts at which I was standing on the first dutch flag, with the 24H we also be noticeable with the dutch flag tho. Can't wait how you guys get on with the 24H, have been following your journey a while now and love to see you living the dream!
Impressive, im so happy for your podium, excellent driving!
I would soooooo watch a 24h onboard of this, the car sounds so good.
So glad I found this channel several years ago. What a fantastic journey it is!
Been following Misha since his beginnings with Apex back in late 2015, early 2016. Living rather local I had the chance to encounter you, and now following your channel, too. Thanks for this video, unagitated (?) and solid in race, lap info. Keep up the good work 🏁
Congrats Steve! So much fun getting to watch you live out your dream!
i hope to one day have a slight hint of what this feeling must be like, well done steve and team, im loving this content and super happy for all of you
It's just so cool to see you out doing this Steve.
"I think he's very EXHAUSTed" lol
Love watching this channel. Best of luck
I'm so happy for you and Jimmy! Keep killing it.
4:35 THE MIGHTY DACIA LOGAN IS BACK?!
And it didn't get sent to the shadow realm this time! Maybe in the N24 it's luck will run out?
They almost doubled horsepower compared to last year with a new engine. It's a beast of a car now.
I'm new to the channel and absolutely loving these vids. GGs matey.
I'm loving these endurance racing videos. I get stressed dealing with endurance racing in AMS2 at night. Trying to race your opponent but also let the faster cars by with the blinding lights. I can't imagine what that would be like in real life.
Its always such a delight to watch irl racing from steve. Bravo
So great stuff! I love Jennas face when steve is talking about the exhaust fumes und jimmy is up next in the car! ❤
I am genuinely happy for you, that's like most people's dreams
Speaking as someone who's watched hundreds of hours of onboards at the ring, your onboards are looking really professional. Great work to you and the rest of the team!
Amazing seeing you in the Real World Racing dude! Congratulations on getting the opportunities as of late and keep killin' it! Yous are shashing it
So proud of ypu and Jimmer, don't even know you personally or have ever met you guys but I root for you like you're one of my friends. Can't wait to see you guys in GT3s
so awesome to watch your journey steve!
I have no experience in live racing but I'm inclined to speculate it's both the Gs and some CO in the car that's making everyone woozy. Still, P2 is an amazing result especially with the limiter issue from earlier. I'm proud to be a fan, despite how recently I joined. Safe to say we all got your back, Steve. Damn proud of all that you've built up.
Steve, you were driving the wheels off the car mate. Awesome driving, I'm really happy for you. When you look at where you started and where you are now, what a fantastic journey! Kudos to Sasha and Jimmy also. P2 is a brilliant result.
Super proud of all you guys. Absolute mega
Make this the first comment so it is not “hello Super Gt, viewers here”
Oh SWEET something original
Wouldn't this comment be an oxymoron because now the first comment still contains the statement that you intended to defeat?
You have become the very thing you swore to destroy

Great driving Steve! That AMG going by at 11:00 sounded so monster! I bet you felt that thing thunder by!
Very impressive. Great driving. Cool headed traffic management, despite exhaust fumes. 💪👍
Get in there lewis 👍
Nice seeing you going
Proper racing and advancing
I have been watching this dude since day 1. So cool to see him moving up over the years
this is awesome! im so stoked for you guys
Well done guys...i am enjoying your fabulous journey
Great driving! Love following your journey! Also loved seeing so much of the Hyundai. Guys really putting in work too.
Very very cool!
Btw I really like the text captions rather than a voiceover for all the onboard footage! Really makes it possible for us viewers to take in all the fierce sounds from the car! 😃
Well done to you all,Steve! Now looking forward to the 24!
@SuperGT at minute 13:45 you just let the screen show!!!
What info do you think they're trying to hide with the blurred dash?

Dude this is so cool! Wish you guys all the best! 😘
Steve is a F'n stud. Such a smooth and consistent driver, and a great human. Way to go mate 👍
From gran turismo to real nordschleife racing. Amazing, well done 👏👏👏

I saw part of this live, I was so excited for you guys.
You are killin' it. You guys will do great in the 24.
Great driving Steve!
The NBR24h is thé best race on the calendar. Period. Even the qualifiers are amazing to see! So stoked that the 3 of you lot are making miles and showing results. Keep it up!
Living the dream mate , cheers and good luck
Man the people who do 24h on this r mental, i could never do this course at night and they do it in even faster cars, hell even daytime would be a struggle aha, keep up the amazing driving. Youre doing what we all wished we could as a kid playing gt
It's so cool watching y'all on YT n then seeing y'all somehow end up together in real life, and now here we are in the Beemer.🔥
I'm so proud of you mate. This looks awesome, and this IRL racing stuff will never get old for any of us I'm sure. Cheers, SuperGT. - Viewer
Your the man Steve, love watching your grown in life 👍💯
Amazing driving from you guys! I do wish these racing videos had your commentary like the GT videos.
@6:18 he says the camera doesn’t do the sun justice for how blinding it was then the camera proceeds to get blinded by the sun a second later. It highlights how great of a driver you are!
5:17 those Hyundai TCRs did come a long way
I'm sweating like crazy just watching this.
I know your level of commitment was insane compared to online sim racing. In a real car I'm on it, but in a sim, I'm nearly half @$$ 😂😂😂
Great drive Steve that was a mega stint 👏
Can’t wait for more!
And this is why I wish I made my racing dream more clear and evident so I could've focused on it. To race on the Nurburgring is a dream of mine
just glad no one on the team met barrier. good luck in the next boys!!!
Steve is a hell of a driver👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I'd love to see the unedited on board of your full stint or even the entire race. Just take the whole thing and slap it on youtube for us all to enjoy :D
That BMW looks sick man im so happy for you
damn, you were FAST fast, nice cornering dude, really proud of your accomplishments
Great performance - Congrats! Hard work pays off! I can't wait to see you performing in 5 weeks at the N24 live! Maybe we'll see each other in the paddock ☺️
Great job Steve. I gotta laugh at Jimmy. Crazy shit on BeamNG one day, real night racing at the Ring on another. You guys are legends!
Awesome experience you are having now, remember always to leave space, keep your eyes alert to every race control in every corner, leave some safety space between the cars in fornt of you and be carefull of the close calls, when you see flashing and blue lights coming behind you, place your car aside on the track and after the gt3 cars pass you get back to your racing line, and thats all the ovbius advices i can tell you, but the most important part, enjoy the race
P.D someone tell Polyphony Digital to add those new 911 GT3R to Gran Turismo 7
good race guys!!
Nice race guys!
Amazing driving, keep it up. And honestly, I would not mind your narration over the driving.
Hey Super GT, it would be great if you did a quick run down of the different categories and groups etc. I don't have much knowledge of all the different regs and rules for each group and why they compete on the track together etc, perhaps you could do a breakdown in a future video
