- A bunch of your top-voted questions at pollgab.com/room/brento didn't need long answers, so I zipped 'em out in a speed round:
00:00 Start
00:21 MyTeaGotCold: Why do you consider the Task Scheduler easier to failover/restore than Agent Jobs? I've found it much easier to just restore MSDB than jump through the nightmare of importing XML tasks back in to the Scheduler.
00:33 DBA JR: hi If I have many indexes with fragmentation between 80 and 90 percent, but the page count of indexes is under 1000 should I rebuild indexes?Fragmentation occurs very quickly, but when I set the fill factor to 95,the problem was resolved. Do you think this is the correct approach?
00:48 DemandingBrentsAttention: If a DB with too many VLFs is backed up/restored to a new server, does the restored DB still have too many VLFs? Or, does SQL reallocate them (more) properly when writing out the physical log file?
01:05 Shao Kahn: Hi Brent, my friend was reading through the source code of sp_BlitzCache and encountered a variable named @NoobSaibot. My friend would like to know if there is a story behind this?
01:27 Ignacio: End users complain about system performance while we run our nightly maintenance jobs for diff backups and stats updates. using onprem boxed SQL. DB is multi terabyte. Any tips?
01:55 DB-Ay?: Time to ditch native backups? We backup via VSS app aware software every hour, however, native backups which run on a secondary take 1.5 DAYS. Is it time to stop native backups and simply change the VSS backup interval to every 15 mins to keep in line with RPO? Thanks!
02:15 Snuffleupagus: In trying to query a log shipped secondary DB, we frequently get kicked out during the restores. How do folks work around this limitation of log shipping?
03:03 CB from NJ: If a table has SSN number , what is the best method to mask the PII information from all users including SYSadmins? but we may need to have a small group of business users that might need to be able to see unmasked PII data? thanks
03:29 MakeMineADouble: Hi Mr O.In my new job they have 3x2017 stacked instances with AOAGs on 3 nodes (1 PRM & 1 random SEC / node),no thought went into what goes where. Stacking (bad, I know) with AOAGs I've not seen before. How can I make the best of this til I upgrade & migrate to non stacked AOAGs? - Наука та технологія
Unfortunately the Shao Kahn / NoobSaibot joke went unnoticed. Guess Brent isn't a Mortal Kombat fan. 😀
Definitely not.
Tobías Boon would be proud. My favorite is @BringThePain
It's a particularly sore subject given the ex employees that Brent used to employ.
@@matthewr3986 uh oh - what does that mean?
@@BrentOzarUnlimitedBrent I like you and your work a lot. We've met in person a few times though I doubt you'd remember me given how many people you meet. I'll just stop while I'm behind. 😊
Speed Round of issue we don't have since moving to letting Microsoft manage our databases. Pro's and Con's of course, but damn, I don't miss having to worry about this stuff.
my ears...
BEEP BEEP
That buzzer is way louder than your vocal audio and I never want to hear it again.
