Twickenham's volume always kicked up a notch when he got the ball. The South Africa 36-0 hiding was a great game where he kept fighting and punching until his hamstring gave up. Really had an all court game by that point - kicking, defence, catching alongside his unbelievable step and acceleration.
The Barbarians game, his final Twickenham one, felt like a fantasy with the world cup winning Springboks against a team with Giteau, Nonu, Conrad Smith, and Jason Robinson. I still can't believe I got to see Nonu, Smith, and Robinson combine and he really showed how much of a legend he was with those 2
Very fast yes, but what really gets me is the acceleration - he's 0-60 faster than just about any player I've ever seen
then you havent seen alot of players\
I think Cheslin Kolbe is probably the most comparable winger we've seen
@@kuikyrojeShane Williams..
Never get tired of that run against Wales in the QF. Turned the game around.
I was at that game and we bloody needed it !!!!
He was a remarkable athlete and by the time of 2003 he'd developed a real instinct for union too. He'd still be an incredible winger now as his 100m was still better than Jonny May's or Christian Wade's 100m times.
And that's ignoring that his real talent was the step and acceleration over the first 20m.
This man had real gas to score many run away tries jason robinson does deserve his fkowers for being the fastest english winger in the 00's
He changed team's tactics, because they knew that any kick his way could get returned 30 metres or more. Lewsey added to that with his pace and willingness to run and it really helped England in the territorial game in that golden era.
The best back three player England ever had, every single time he had the ball in hand the volume went up, he could run faster sideways than most people could in a straight line. I was six when he scored the try against Australia, but I'll never forget my uncle leaping out of his chair and nearly putting his head through the ceiling and watching him scream come on into the Camera
Jason Robinson, Ben Cohen, Josh Lewsey, Mark Cueto, James Simpson-Daniel, Ian Balshaw.
No wonder we were so good from 2001 to 2007.
We were awful 04-07 and for the years after bar 2011 six nations, plucky 2nd placers between 2012-2015, then a decent side 2016-19.
Jason Robinson was one of the finest to play but England were mainly dominant 01-03
@jonnybaynham1689 2007 we reached the world cup final.
He was fastest man during this time ⚡️⚡️⚡️
And this is just his union highlights.
In league, with the extra space, he often looked like the tiny winger (Mather?) from Jonah Lomu Rugby.
The greatest off the mark, show of hand, acceleration and courage there's ever been in a winger/fullback. Still feel he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Walks into any greatest world XV easily.
Pocket rocket and a gentleman to boot.
He never swore.
The crazy thing is by time he got to Union he had lost some of his speed and agility compared to when he was playing League at Wigan in the late 90's. The guy was a phenomenon.
That opening clip took me rght back to Rugby 08! Thank you
Only three people I’ve seen with a similar step - Cheslin, Shane Williams, and David Duckham who regularly dummied the cameraman- which happens here at around 3:42
Honourable mentions to Phil Bennett, Danie Gerber, Blanco, Serevi, Carlos S, and Jonah who in fairness was altogether a total one-off in other ways as well.
Absolute legend
The mention of Simpson-Daniel and how often did Robinson play alongside him because they were both massively talented.
Would dominate in all eras
Never clicked so fast upon seeing a video title
It feel like I'm seeing the credits of Rugby08
Its a shame theres not many clips of him playing for Sale online
@@AdTurnerr yeah real shame I couldn’t find much - pre 2009 there’s a real lack of footage it’s very frustrating
Fuck me, he was absolutely rapid in his prime!
He's acceleration is crazy
Best 15/14 i've ver seen
He’s rapid and goes from 0 to 100
Do prime Simpson Daniel please
They dont make them like him anymore 😄😄
Faster than kolbe
Probably my favourite player
Poor mans Eli Walker
Yet he won a rugby world cup, what has Eli Walker achieved now again?🤔
