When people asked me to Build a GAMING PC (?) for $20 I took it upon myself to start opening my eyes up to any PC that was out there, then I found a HP AIO PC laying around in the junk section for $5 I then knew what was to ensue would be an epic journey to make a something that could play League of Legends - The most popular multiplayer PC game atm, for less than what you would normally spend on lunch - I was shocked when it could play the game pretty well, though CS:GO and Dota 2 took a serious dive with low frame rates.... however once we added in an Nvidia GT430 - things become SERIOUS, we were now gaming in 1080p 60fps heaven!

Prebuild laptops have drivers made by their manufacturers to especially save battery life but decrease power, there are tutorials online on how to get the original drivers.

It will not be a huge boost in performance, but it will be noticeable, so don`t expect anything huge, also it may output more heat, so consider getting a cooling pad if that happens

I am a bit interested in a slightly pimped version: replace the CPU with a Core 2 Quad or quad-core Xeon, max out the RAM, throw in a half-height GTX 750 Ti, add a second-hand LSI 9240-8i (those can be found at about $10, but it is a full speed SAS/SATA 6Gb/s RAID controller) and put a pair of SSDs in RAID 0.

Guys should i keep my pc and upgrade it, or build an entirely new system. I plan on mainly playing cs go with dome AAA titles. it looks similar to this. (Also a hp compaq) It has an i5-2400, 4 gb ddr3 660 Mhz, and an nvidia quadro nvs 285 (this is utter shit, i know, 14 fps on cs go lowest settings) i fear the slow ram speed will be a major bottlenecker and thanks for any help

+Strider Wolf Yes I guess given the fact that in Japan, people have to pay a fee to have their unwanted electronics taken away, most people give it away if it's wanted or sell them for very cheap. Hence one can find some great steals in junk stores. It makes sense that Japan has a lot of junk/used stores there, even big chain stores have sections for them. That's like the only thing that comes cheap there, electronics and gaming stuff. I don't know about the rest of the U.S. but it sucks that we can't just throw out TVs and other electronics on the curb anymore here in NYC. Must take it to a recycling center which isn't close by.

I'm truly amazed you got the 430 to work, as there is so little power supply headroom to deal with. I'm in the middle of doing a video right now where I take that computer's bigger brother (the HP 6000 pro SFF) and turn it into a gaming machine. The 6000 pro still uses the LGA 775 socket, and mine came with an E7400 core 2 duo, but supports up to 16 gigs of DDR3. I don't think you ever mentioned what exact model you have in your video, but it looks like it uses the same 240 watt power supply that is in the 6000 pro.
You might want to consider going the same upgrade route that I did with mine.
I replaced the E7400 with a Q9550 for $30, then I scrounged up 8 gigs of DDR3 for $40. I was really skeptical of how much power supply headroom I had left so I opted for a 1 Gb HD 6450 that I got for $5, but if you can run the 430 without stressing the PSU then it should have enough juice to power a 750 Ti or even 1050 Ti... If it can support those I know that MSI makes a super tiny model that *should* fit just fine. I had a 256 gig SSD laying around so I threw that in, and oh boy that was a huge improvement over the 1 Tb hard drive I had in it before. I know that the case has two 3.5 inch bays, so perhaps the best setup is a SSD for boot and a 1-2 TB hard disk for storage?
Let me know what you think, and I'd love to see you test out what the power limit is. The 6450 should be coming in tomorrow so I can finish my video then... any tips on the best ways to benchmark the system once it is complete? Also would love to know a good lineup of games to test, my current go-to test games are GTA V, all three dark souls games, Rainbow 6 Siege, and L4D2, starting with the oldest game and working my way to the newest.

I think that videos like this are great. It can help repurpose older machines that may be just sitting in the garage. Most people dont realise that to play most of these games(MOBA's/CS/etc.) that you dont need the newest hardware available; these games will run on almost anything. So basically $25(because they make a bracket to adapt tall cards to half height cases, so you dont have to bend the case like he did) and you can join your friends in games you may have been stressed out about because you cant afford a more expensive PC.

if your laptop only costs $400, it's likely that it doesn't have a graphics card, and instead uses the cpu's integrated graphics. and again, if it only costs $400, then the cpu is pretty trash too.

I have had a similar computer by the same manufacturer (HP) since 2014 and for LOL or any other mid-end games it is quite good. I like it very much for being able to bring me some joys and becauce it is an equipment designed for working hours.
Cons: power supply is propprietary, very few options for video card expansion
On the good side: $ = less than 100 bucks in 2014 (including monitor, keyboard and mouse) and I still use it for occasional gaming.
Looking forward, though, to get me a better gaming pc in the range of 400-500 bucks...

plug in the charger, go to search and type power plan, find one that says high performance...good luck but be aware that it might overheat
