  • In this video, I take a close look at a solution for the Sony RX100 VI's missing built-in ND filter. The 52mm MagFilter Adapter Ring from CarrySpeed.com offers a seemless option for using any filters including a polarizer/cpl filter with Sony's new premium compact camera the RX100 M6 along with other point and shoot cameras. This is definitely a must have accessory if you're shooting video or looking to take long exposure photography with you're Sony Cyber-shot DSC RX100 VI and the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC RX100 VII.
    As always, thanks for checking out the video!

    Thanks mate, Nice content, only thing i find out is with my previous compac canon the closing thin plastic part on top of the lens after 5-6 months of putting it in the jeans pocket gets not opening or closing correctly. I guess that wing a non removable uv lens will help to reduce my problem, and living that part exposed because of the very thin mag part in my case i don't know if it will be effective, but I definitely love the ease of use of the MAG filters, Max

  • @ChristopheLanglois
    @ChristopheLanglois 5 років тому +1

    Thanks for the video! Some people complained about vignetting wide open at 24mm... is it something you experienced? Even LensMate designed an upgraded version of their own solution for the mark vi last year...

    • @ChristopheLanglois
      @ChristopheLanglois 5 років тому +1

      My bad, you mentioned vignetting in photo mode... could you please confirm there is none for video even at 24mm? Thanks in advance. :)

    • @KeepingThisTech
      @KeepingThisTech  5 років тому +3

      Thank you for checking out the video! Such a timely question! I can confirm that I had not experienced any vignetting in video until recently. I noticed the vignetting while using/testing the new Crane M2 from Zhiyun. The vignetting appeared in 1080P video not in 4K and only at the 24mm and disappears at 28mm. That was a real head scratcher because it had never happened before and I was using that same mag filter system featured in the video. And then.. I realized the active steady shot feature was disabled. I had temporarily disabled it to use The RX100 VI on the Crane M2. I wanted to test the stabilization of the Crane M2 without any help from the camera. There’s a slight crop that has been masking the vignetting in 1080p. I never realized it till a few days ago because I’ve had the active steady shot feature on since I’ve set up my camera out of the box. So to sum it up, I’ll have to now say there is & isn’t vignetting in Video based on you’re settings and use case for RX100 VI (and presumably the VII).. If you’re filming in 4K it won’t be a problem.. active steady shot or not. I hope that helps and answers you’re question.

    Can I use it on RX100 V??

  • @umadkuzubad
    @umadkuzubad 5 років тому +1

    Hey! Me again.
    I purchased the filter (using your link of course) however I have some questions.
    When I'm zoomed all the way out, I see a little "Cross" when I'm trying to use the ND filter.
    When I zoom in (to around 50mm) the filter seemed to work fine.
    Is this usual behavior? Can I not shoot at 24mm using this lens?
    Thanks again!

    • @KeepingThisTech
      @KeepingThisTech  5 років тому

      Hey thanks for reaching out... I’ll get the cross pattern too if I’m at the max option for the variable ND filter... that’s an indicator for me to dial it back some and or adjust the camera‘s shooting settings. Regarding your other focal range questions.. are you shootings stills or video?? What are the camera’s settings when these issues occur??

    Nice video - it will increase my learning-curve 👍 Does the display dim when shooting 4k ? My Sony A6500 does this, so that I can‘t see anything at the display in bright daylight!

    • @KeepingThisTech
      @KeepingThisTech  5 років тому

      Yes and no... the display is viewable until the overheating warning pops up... then it’s not.. there is also a sunny day mode on the M6’s display that helps with bright conditions just like on the new A6400. I hope that helps. Thanks for checking out the video!

    • @edelweiss130464
      @edelweiss130464 5 років тому

      Ok - is this „sunny weather“ setting also working when 4K recording? At my A6500 these setting is ignored in 4K Video Modus :(

    • @KeepingThisTech
      @KeepingThisTech  5 років тому

      I just double checked to see if sunny mode works in 4K.. and that feature is in fact disabled while shooting in 4K.. however it does work for all other shooting modes.

    Many thanks for the excellent advice ! I would like to purchase both the ND and Polarizer filter but I definetly want to avoid (!) vignetting using the 24 mm on the Sony RX100 VI; Would I solve the problem using the 42mm CPL Magfillter ? Same question for the 42mm ND Magfillter (but I don't know if they make one ) . Many thanks, Giorgio

    If Sony manufactured that, it would retail for $300. Would go good with their $1200 camera and $100 gimbal. Heck, why not throw in an external Mic accessory for $600 on top of that. Sony’s pricing is the best!

      Hey thanks for reaching out.. Are you in picture mode or video mode? Also are you zoomed all the way out at 24mm? In the video, I mentioned there is some vignetting (which are the black areas that I think you're referring to) in the stills mode (picture mode) but for me only zoomed out at 24mm. As soon as I move up-to 28mm they go away again in stills mode. I've not experienced any vignetting in video mode.

    • @KeepingThisTech
      @KeepingThisTech  5 років тому +1

      Moataz Gameel thanks for checking out the video! I think you could start a UA-cam channel with the RX100 M6 and for that matter any modern smartphone... a little more than half of this video was filmed on the iPhone 8 Plus.. My last two videos were filmed using the M6... the Apple Watch video & the A6400. There are some considerations if you want to really go in on UA-cam with the M6 namely the over heating.. it can really slow down the process. The other one is it’s low light capabilities..you’ll want to gets some lights assuming you be filming indoors.. I would say RX100 M6 isn’t the best option BUT if it’s your only camera, it can be done with a lot of patience.

      There’s other options out there for cameras, better cameras! The price for the Sony is way too high for what you get. Portability should be the only reason for getting the little camera. He’s right. An iPhone with some nice attachments and Filmic Pro is a great option. There was a movie shot in New Zealand using just an iPhone. I use an iPhone with tripods, mic, and lights. Good Luck!
