Alright, hands up. Who else watched this cartoon growing up?
Didn't watch it on tv, but a local video store had a video compiling many episodes. I rented it so many times. :3
I did!
Have had a little too much to drink, and we are just doing though all the old cartoons ... used to love this !!
When i was living in Texas after evacuating a big storm, i used to watch this show all the time on boomerang after school. Despite Dastardly and Muttley being the most popular, the other two were my favorites.
I saw a tv guide recently. Why is Amazing World of Gumball (Good show but too modern) and Teen Titans Go on that channel?? I understand Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo but don't put modern shows on a channel dedicated to the classics.
Who else remembered it as "Catch the pigeon"?
wtf is going on.
definitely catch the pigeon
Mandela Effect! Was always ‘catch’
It was catch the pigeon im absolutely sure👍
Nope. It has always been ‘Stop the pigeon.’
I remember it very vividly ever since I was a kid.
All those years later and I always thought it was catch the pigeon
It might be a country thing
Yeah, I remember Catch the Pigeon too, probably a U.S. Thing
It was Catch the Pigeon in the UK!
Lmao, That is what I just typed in.
Right?!
Fun Fact:
This show was based off of a movie called “Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.”
yeah,great movie!
And wacky races
@@JeremyZyxo761 no
I heard the characters of Dastardly and Muttley were based on Jack Lemmon and Peter Falk in "The Great Race"
The Great Race and Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines both came out in theaters in the same year (1965). At the box office, Those Magnificent men kicked Tony Curtis' butt 🙂
Four years later, a car-race (vs airplane race) sequel to "...Magnificent Men..." was produced by the same team, with some of the same actors and characters, called "Those Daring Young Men in their Jaunty Jalopies"
I was only four years old in '65, but I grew up watching all three of these movies every time they came on TV, and watched Dastardly, Muttley, and Penelope over and over and over ...
Very fond memories ...
You know you’re a henchman who’s done majorly wrong
When your leader roasts you in your own intro song.
Dastardly couldn't catch a cold sadly lol. This show was hilarious as a kid. The chief use to get on the phone and just scream. Muttley is funny in this too, Paul Winchell and Don Messick were legends. They done nearly all the voices in this.
he couldn't catch a break if it were delivered to his doorstep. It didn't matter what show he was in or what equipment/personnel he had at his disposal, he just always took a massive L at the end of every episode!
@@hobomike6935 So true lol
I believe it was the General and not the Chief.

Wake up there Muttley -- you're dreaming again!
You're not Robin Hood, and you're not Gunga Din;
You're not a brave knight or a king that's been crowned,
You're just plain old Muttley -- the snickering hound!
Nice work, cheers😂

Legend says, they're still trying to stop the pigeon.
Why were they trying to stop it?
The late Paul Winchell was the original voice of Dick Dastardly, also on The Wacky Races and Yogi's Treasure Hunt. The voices of Muttley, Klunk, and Zilly were all done by the late Don Messick, who was also the original voice of Scooby-Doo.
Played this for my 4 year old son a few weeks ago and now he always wants to watch Dastardly and Muttley! Loved watching this when I was a kid!
My life was soooo great when this show was still on. I was so happy and full of joy. Ahh
Same bro, laying on the couch watching this on tv while my mom gave me cranberry juice in a sippy cup, I think the cranberry juice tasted better back then too.
Guess it's nostalgia time..life as a kid was great
God this brings back memories, re-runs in the mid to late 2000s on Boomerang. What a time to be alive.
Penolpe Pitstop has also her own show ...
I've been knew that I also watch her show as well along time ago when I was a kid
Drinking game:
Take a shot everytime Dastardly says "Stop the pigeon"
Are you willfully trying to encourage blood alcohol poisoning?
This essentially required me to drink two beers because the whole damn song is the same damn three words.
comment 63: since Dick always says Ziggy English please does this cartoon take place in a timeline where the csa/USA are in ww 1-also does the Vulture Squad ever chase Woodstock?
Chances are you’re gonna be blitzed or dead because if my calculations are correct, you hammered 16 shots.

In subsequent depictions of the character, Dick Dastardly was voiced by Rob Paulsen and by Jim Cummings (the latter of whom was notable for voicing other characters previously voiced by Winchell, including Tigger and Zummi Gummi).
Dastardly's catchphrases in the cartoons were "Muttley, do something!", "Drat, and double drat!"[4] and occasionally "Triple drat!" or "Curses, foiled again!"
Cartoon Network did reruns of many Hanna Barbera cartoons back in the 90's, this being one of them. It's such a classic. My favourite Paul Winchell role.
I first saw this show on a New York to Vegas JetBlue flight in the summer of 2006. The TV service for passengers included Boomerang (Back in the good old days) and by the time the plane landed. I was singing Stop The Pigeon non-stop for the entire four days we were in Vegas. When I got back to New York, I took a bus to a shopping nall in Pelham and bought the entire series DVD. I still own it 17 years later.
I remember watching this and listening to this theme song on cartoon network as a kid in the early of the 2000s I really miss my childhood days memories 💔😥
The show was still really old when I saw it 30 years ago! Least of all when you did 20 years ago on Cartoon Network.
It just shows how much of a hit it really was.

0:35 Dick Dastardly's confused face has made me laugh 😂 and he should have become an internet meme, ye know.
Born in the UK in 1965, I think that the cartoons of Hannah Barbera had more influence on me than anything. In fact, I live my life by the sayings and aphorisms of their characters
I bet it shows.

How I loved this cartoon growing up xxx
I know other people have said this, but I could have sworn it was catch that pigeon!
I know other people have said this...but I could swear there must be something seriously wrong with them. I watched this cartoon perhaps 30 odd years ago as a child on tv and not ONCE did we ever sing anything else than STOP the pigeon whenever talking about the cartoon with other kids at school.
Here's what. A lot of people have bad memories. I know I come across as somebody bragging but I remember people's full names, dates, capitals, events and whatnot. A lot of people ask me *how* I am able to remember that much. Well, I inherited it from my mum who also reads something one time and it sticks for the rest life.
Most people as adults don't actively watch the cartoons they watched as kids so it's not so surprising they remembered wrong. More often than not somebody misquotes something in media and everybody apes it. Hence the misquote becomes the actual quote.
I always recall the them song being *stop* the pigeon. It baffles my mind people believe it was catch pigeon.
Curse you Paul Winchell and Dick Dastardly for making this never leave our heads!
😂😂😂😂
Drats and double drats !!!!!
I remember watching this as a kid and I loved every bit of it, from the wacky races to this. As this was always my favourite and dastardly was always my favourite character/villian. But I still wonder what type of mail the pigoen was carrying, was it important info or just normal mail, I always thought when I was young it was normal mail and they needed to stop him from delivering it
Me too
I think the newer reboot of wacky racers explains some of this :) you see supposedly the dick dastardly in the flying machine is the grandfather of the one in the newer reboot of wacky racers
Supposedly the grandfather is a World war 1 pilot who from what I gathered and this is set in that time
The dick dastardly in wacky racers (original) is then the son of the pilot one and is presumably named "Dock dastardly Jr"
The one on the wacky racers reboot is the one who cleared it all up Timeline wise and is Dick dastardly the third and the grandson in the bloodline
From what i know in the wacky racers reboot the grandfather dick dastardly actually makes an appearance though he is voiced by Tom Kenny as the original voice actor passed long ago :)
Growing up I still had these to watch even though we had VERY HIGH quality cartoons because there’s nothing that can compare to this show

Great childhood stuff here man,,, I guess yesteryear was the best years in a lot of things,,including cartoons.
It wasn't until I was a grown up that I realized Klunk suffered from Tourette's Syndrome and Silly dealt with hyper anxiety disorder.
This song definitely suits Dr. Robotnik/Eggman from "Sonic the Hedgehog." 😆
Just replace "pigeon" with "hedgehog," and the names of the characters.
Muttley just didn't care. Was just a lark. Best laugh ever

It reminds me of Roadrunner - trying to catch a bird with over-the-top contraptions that invariably backfire and the pigeon goes beep-beep (oh, wait).
In the Scoob! movie, it shows he eventually stopped the pigeon.
This song would go through my head for hours as a kid, and always thump its way in when I was trying to concentrate on something.
I Used To Watch This Cartoon Quite Regularly Growing Up In The 1970s!🛩🕊
I loved this show as a kid, but now that i think about it it's message is that hard work doesn't pay off.
Since the guys breaking their assesoff working never managed to capture the pigeon which never put any effort.
rdsasuke1 well I guess you could apply the same principle to Roadrunner & Coyote, Tom & Jerry and Sylvester & Tweety. The villain never prospers - that's the moral of the story
Catch the pigeon!!!! Mandela effect 😵💫
I remember when I used to watch this a long time ago xD I loved it so much
Happy Memories :)
i Always wondered what they would do if they managed to Catch/kill the pigeon?
For all those people who remember it as 'Catch the pigeon' I believe it a case of the Mandela Effect acting on people minds. The theme song was always Stop the Pigeon but because of the mandela effect people seem to remember Catch the pigeon. The most famous example of this is the Bearenstain Bears. Everyone remembers it as Bearenstein.
When I was younger I used to wake up really really early like between 2 or 3 am to watch this because that was the only tome it would be on
Muttley was the star of the show to me!
