In case you've been living under a rock, Wizards of the Coast, owners of Dungeons & Dragons, will apparently no longer authorize the OGL 1.0a license, which for decades has allowed third party publishers to publish D&D content in an open and fair way.
This decision, obviously, has ruffled a few feathers in the TTRPG community.

Wizards forgot the rules that every RPG player knows: Don't split the party.
That's cause they don't actually give a shit about the game. The community remembered though and that means more than anything.
Gotta say that I play chaotically with my present character and always split from the party😅 Luckily, I have an amazing DM who works with such shenanigans and doesn't punish them😅 That said, I am still with you, lol.
Technically, as this shows, we came together from BEING split!

The party didn't split. They just went in the direction the DM didn't want, and he's being too petty to adjust.
This edit gave me *even more* hype than the original scene. As terrible as the situation is, it's been incredible to see every corner of the ttrpg fanbase rise to do what we can against it!

Honestly Paizo being that big is very fitting. They said "No U, we're making our own ORC and rallying everyone willing behind us".
Indestructoboy took a lot of heat when all this first started and no one would believe him. I'm glad to see he's getting some well earned recognition (and hopefully some apologies too). Its well deserved.

You could always reference the old idea everyone had of how antman would beat thanos, though I do agree slightly missed opportunity I also loved seeing critcrab there, but that’s just fanboy me
I did like CritCrab being Iron Man though since he was I think the first video to report on it, reflected by Iron Man already being at the fight where Paizo had a delayed but very dramatic entrance, much like Antman, and who we were worried about not being okay, much like Antman before he showed back up.

Dungeon Dudes is a glaring omission.
I've never seen Avengers movies, so this made the whole thing so much more emotional for me. Paizo coming out like "let's fuckin go" gets me right in the feels. Oh man. I love this. Thanks for making this.

Critical Role would have to actually say something first. Even if it's "we aren't at liberty to say". As it stands, it makes them look like they cut a deal early on....which would make them members of The Black Order, not Avengers.

This all comes down to Hasbro NOT UNDERSTANDING that we the players argue RAW VS RAI ALL DAY EVERYDAY FOR THE PAST 50 YEARS. We are Rules lawyers and we can read contracts. SO yeah.. We know what you were trying to do.
Took a while but they reversed the plans regarding de-authorizing the OGL. They also licensed the 5.1 SRD under Creative Commons today. Also, recognize that real-life people put their careers at risk to share the initial leak, which is an act of courage and moral integrity.

The only thing missing the The Dungeon Dudes; they changed their into to drop D&D and their wall of books now has non-D&D RPGs facing covers out.
Also, this made me smile more than the original did when I saw it in the theater. 22 years in the making, unlike the MCU which only took 11 years to get there.
And when we tought it was all, Critical Role comes doubling down using the same "we're in the side of the comunity" language WotC used to subtly show their support for the cause.
They could easily be Miss Marvel comming out of nowhere, while the Dungeon Dudes could be Gamora or other of the chatacters that only enter the battlefield afterwards.
I very much regret not including them!

I've seen this video ten times and I can't stop watching It. I'm not a D&D player (I play lot of other TTRPGS but not D&D) but this was against all of us.
This brings a tear to my eye each time I watch it. Wonderful to see everyone standing up to this nonsense.

Hasbro for got that when your in a dragons lair gathering up a ton of treasure, don't get too greedy. If you stay too long and screw around too much trying to get every last gold piece, eventually that dragon's gonna wake up, notice what your doing, get pissed ,and breathe fire all over your greedy butt.

What good does CR commenting do now? Wotc has undone some of ogl 1.1 and made a statement about 2.0. As far as I'm concerned, who cares what CR thinks. If they wanted to make a stand it should of been done before WOTC has declared everyone a winner.

More likely that they couldn't outwardly speak against WotC due to the sponsorship from DDB. Usually contracts will have a statement that neither party will bring bad publicity to the other with a back door to exit the contract if the other side does cause bad publicity. I would be surprised if their sponsorship didn't have such wordage considering the size of both entities.
Even if CR had a clause that would let them out of the contract due to negative publicity they catch from not commenting on the proposed OGL changes, it probably wouldn't benefit them to enact that clause until specifics regarding the end state of the OGL were solidified. Without concrete information, what they might think is digging themselves out might just lead to digging their position deeper.
My gut tells me that CR and Hasbro already had a backroom agreement before any of this came out.

Loved this video. I know ideas are cheap, but I got an idea for another, if you’re interested.
Little context. I’ve been running a planescape campaign for the last few years that’s been really meaningful to me. I ran it for 5 regular players, but I also ran it for my father - just the two of us - as he began to die from ALS. We played it right up until the day he passed.
Nobody knows about planescape these days. To me it’s the best and most underappreciated of D&D’s settings, all about philosophy and belief and the afterlife. I spent years introducing my players to it, and the better parts of this game’s older lore from the 90’s, before it was discontinued. We still play it today, but this OGL fiasco has definitely knocked the wind out of my inspiration.
Before it hit the fan, I was really looking forward to the modern re-release of the planescspe setting… even had a website of planescape-themed hero forge and talespire art I was hoping to unveil, complete with lore, to inform and promote with work that kept my diabetic fat ass sane over 3 years of pandemic. But now… well, I don’t want to support such an evil company.
Not to be too melodramatic (there are much nobler causes than this stupid hobby), but this old episode of justice league kind of conveys my own feelings about D&D right now. Time to rip the arm off.
