The knowledge that you always display about these engines is remarkable. Stiffness, windage, oil control, flatness in this one video. Crazy good. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice video! Learn something from everything you do! The main seal vents were gold. Seal leakage has always been an occasional issue with higher rpm and active driving.
Great information‘s about the case difference’s! Always hard to get sound and solid knowledge regarding typ-4‘s. Thank ya for that nice vid, and best greetings from D 🙋🏻♂️
Great video Jake! Im currently in the process of building up a GC case (the devils case no 6666) to a 2653 with the kit from The TypeIV Store. I knew about the single oil pressure relief on my case but was not aware of the extra beef built into the 1.7 cases. Can’t wait to hear this thing run. Keep the videos coming . I can’t get enough.
Jake, I found a 914 in a field that was left there 28 years ago. I am almost ready for the engine to be freshened up. I would like to use a Turbo charger on it and was wondering what I would need . I will try and get in touch with my small questions..lol
I heard the opposite, but obviously, I stand corrected. I have a 1.8 half way apart and still running the 2.0 in the vw. I wonder can you get slightly less power, say 150-160 from a 2.0L ?? if I don't have to machine the case as much, will it be stronger and last longer...oh the things that will keep me up at 3 AM...

Love watching your videos Jake. Always, highly informative.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Type 4 engines

Thank you Jake - very informative video!
My pleasure!
Love this…thank you
Thank's Jake.
How do you feel about 1.8s? Not sure if that's a VW only fitment or if Porsche used them, too?

CB series is my favorite. My CB 1.7 went to 2.0 and now 2.1 with no align-bore ever needed.
Awesome.. thank you!!👍😎👍
You bet!
Are you gona install steel cylinders to prevent bore scoring?
what is your prep process to clean and coat the cases ? is that a dow magnesium type outer coating? soda blasting etc?
Jake, always a pleasure. How do we identify an early 914/1.7 case? When a motor is out of the car at a junkyard ID’n is sometimes difficult.
Please submit a support ticket to Raby's aircooled technologies. Jake Raby doesn't have time to monitor comments on UA-cam. Thank you!
I always heard the 1.7's were best, now you've explained why. So, what was the weight of the cases?
Thanks for the info.

Are the 1.8 the same as the 1.7?
