@@RogerinFinland hi there, as luck would have it just before Easter a camera store in Sweden sold a G9 to me at 40% of the normal price. So is the G9 still worth it in 2022? Oh yes coming from a GX9 and a G80 but different cameras for different uses. Thanks for the video, I have been binge watching various channels with reviews of the G9. Buttons you did not talk about are the lever in the lower front left from I to II and the two fn buttons on the front by the grip. I have yet to program them for use and I find it difficult to use the two front fn buttons maybe my hand is too small. I will be looking at, revisiting, other vids you have about the G9 specifically!
@@joestrahl6980 good deal! The G9 is a very capable and nice camera indeed :)

Great video, keep sharing more of your knowledge with us I really appreaciate it and I def think you deserve much more subs! If I only get the kit lens leica 12-60, which lens would you recommend to compliment it? Based on filmmaking, budget, b rolls, some portraits and probably too much to ask but also some low light, as I heard until now I see options like the 42.5mm and 15mm 1.7, or maybe I can give up on the kit lens and invest in 2 good lens that can do the job that I need? So complicated topic I'm sorry ahah
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it very much, hopefully the subs will eventually come 😊 If you are unsure of what lens to get, start with the 12-60 2.8-4 (which is a great lens!!) and figure out what's your favourite focal length, then go and get a nice prime. There's a ton to choose!! And maybe I should be making some more G9 + lenses videos... 🤔

@@RogerinFinland that's such a great advice thank you! Sure more videos about g9 would be great as it becoming more affordable etc. if I get the g9 + Lumix 25mm f1.7, which other lens would you recommend me to compliment it? Would the 42.5mm would be a good idea? (on a budget lens and also another lens in a mid budget)
One of my favourite lenses for MFT (which I don't have anymore, but want it back) is the Olympus 17.5mm f/1.8, even though the Leica 15mm 1.7 sounds also super interesting. The 42.5mm would be an 85mm (in terms of field of view equivalent), traditional for portraits. Again, to me it's about what focal lengths you want. My favourites are (in full frame terms) 28mm, 45mm and 85mm but that's just a matter of taste.
Good Video! So as the 4K60fps recording is limited to 10 minutes what happens after i reached the 10 minutes? Can i just start another 10 min clip with same settings?
The speed of the card will make a difference for sure. If you need to record at 4k 60p for a long time, then maybe this isn't the best choice, but I can't quite imagine a use case for that. It's an awesome camera, that's for sure but all of them (ALL, the perfect camera doesn't exist) have some features that matter to some and some quirks that will be showstoppers for some others. For instance, the 30mik record limit of many cameras is a big deal for many people, but I never film anything longer than 20min.
@@RogerinFinland Im fine with the limit as far as i can start another one right after if there is a situation i need you know. Im focusing on photography otherwise i probably would go with the GH5.Oh and if i stop recording after 5 min in 4K60fps the limit on the new recording is 10 min again right?
I could do some testing on the topic with different SD cards, but might take a couple of weeks before it's ready. Having a day job and family life and the lot 😅
@@RogerinFinland the G80/85 is the G7 with stabilization. I have two G7s in the house for webcams and the G85 is a webcam/vlog cam. I want the G9 as a small camera to film with and supplement my Nikons.
Fantastic video. I have just got myself a G9 and really like it. This video helped me understand even more about it. To answer your question, a video about the video options would be very valuable. Please do this :) Thank you.
The G9 has everything I need except FF. I'd like to buy it but I'm afraid of noise in high ISO. Do you think lenses with f1.4 or even f1.2 are solving the noise issue?
A 1.4 gives you two more stops than a 2.8 (and 1.2 is about 1/3 of a stop more than a 1.4). That's the difference between iso 1600 and 6400. But still, the IBIS allows for longer shutter so then no need to crank the ISO. I wouldn't say that 1.4 lenses would solve the noise problem, but I also don't think it's a massive problem... One thing I'm almost sure though, if you really want FF you keep on wanting that until you get it 😊
@@RogerinFinland Thanks for your answer. I'm not sure I really want FF. G9 seems to be an excellent camera. I'm only afraid of high iso noise, but maybe you're right - it's not massive problem, and I am unnecessarily afraid. And one more thing: the biggest advantage of M4/3 is that example: camerasize.com/compact/#725.629,716.17,ha,t
@@marekp2845 I think if you're not shooting sports, the G9 would be pretty good. In sports you need super high shutter speed, so ISO goes up to 10,000 or even 12,800 easily on ff, especially indoors. That's 32,000 ISO? on M43. (Not sure how the math works out, but M43 is generally 2 stops weaker in ISO performance)
Given the same aperture, shutter speed and ISO the exposure should be similar regardless of sensor size. What is true is that given the same ISO, a full frame camera will be (almost always) less noisy and perform better. @Professional Potato I have a video dedicated to the G9 ISO capabilities. I hope you check it out!! (Right after I make the like/dislike visible 😅)
I hope I can get a G9 soon. Or I hope Panasonic makes G10 with PDAF. I use Sony at work, amazing autofocus, crazy dynamic range. But... IBIS is poor, and I don't think I'll want to buy full frame for casual use. G9 still can't do video AF as well like you mentioned, but I think for casual vlogging, probably still ok. Oh and just my opinion. Might be a good idea to leave the like/dislike ratio visible. Generally I'm the type of viewer that skips videos if I can't see the ratio. But I'm too in love with the G9. Not sure if there are others like me but it feels like there is a lack of trust. No hate. I'm just saying what I feel, please don't get offended :)
It would be so sweet to get a Panasonic with good AF 😅. The G9 is actually pretty decent compared to some earlier offerings, but I do have an a6400 and that's just another league in AF... And no offense taken on the feedback! It's actually good advice and I wasn't even aware that they weren't visible!! Now you should be able to see them. Looks that I need to check the rest of my videos and enable that 😮
Roger in Finland I would definitely appreciate a breakdown of the video codecs and how they all work, example what works on my iPad, what works on my pc, etc. would be great. There is a bit of a gap in the UA-cam space now that this camera has been upgraded. Is this your personal camera, or just a review unit?
LOL, have you seen the subscribe count? Nobody sends me anything 😅, definitely my own. That's a good idea for a video. I only need to find the time. Tricky with a full time job and family life as higher priority, but I'll try!
Wonderful review! I love learning new things about my brilliant camera!
