I remember going to the Times Theatre when I was little. I know it's an eye sore to look at, but I believe both Times and Midway can be restore to either a loft or apartments for the modern Rockford Downtown Area in my opinion.
The Midway, yes, it was an actual theater and also had apartments and retail spaces like the Coronado. The Times is more just one big room. I don't think they even had a mezzanine or balcony level, but I may be misremembering that ... I haven't been in the Times or Midway buildings since the '70s!
That microwave relay tower at the AT&T building in downtown Rockford was taken down last summer and I used it as a landmark when I walked on the bike trail when I know I was getting close to the downtown area with the white strobe on it during the day and at night the flashing red light. =^.^=
Wow, yea that's Rockford, sad to see it run down but their trin to bring it back. I saw the condo building on the corner. Well that's all nice and redone. Very interesting. And yea no jay walking!!!!
I am so happy you liked this video. I put a lot into it. I was so happy to get a hold of the first movies featured at Times Theatre. I had a lot of fun putting this video together! Thank you Kristy Voltner! Yeah, that jay walking sequence was just supposed to be for a laugh. I want to be serious but I also want to be light hearted. Have a nice weekend!
Going to a movie at the Times or the Auburn wasn't quite the same experience as seeing one at the Coronado, was it? Still, they were nice little art deco experiences. I wouldn't have guessed the Times sat 999! It didn't feel that large. There must've been an extra tax that kicked in if they sat 1,000! Coronado seats about 2,500 for comparison.
@@killroyjohnson1256 yes, they had both stage shows and movies. The Coronado has everything needed for large scale stage productions (backstage areas, fly system, dressing rooms, loading docks, orchestra pit, etc.). They also have an organ! which was the accompaniment for silent movies. The Times (like all movie theaters that were built just to show movies) was just a flat wall with no stage or backstage at all. In addition to showing first run movies, the Coronado had movies for children during the weekend matinees (Disney, adventure, etc.) It was the place to go when I was a kid ('60s) and I'm sure long before that. Regarding stage shows, they were on one of the main circuits for music and drama that traces back to vaudeville days and brought in top stars. That all changed in the 1970s when the Kerasotes family bought the theater, showed only movies and let the building disintegrate. Fortunately it was wrested from their control and was restored to its former glory by the community. I haven't lived in Rockford for nearly 50 years, but it is still the most beautiful theater I have ever seen!
@@Marcel_Audubon wow, I appreciate you taking the time to explain all that. I've always wondered things like that, and now I know! 👍😃👍. Do you ever return to Rockford? I moved to Rockton and took a job in Rockford after getting out of the Army in 2000, but im ready to go back home to Florida. I liked it here in the beginning, but I've had my fill and it keeps getting worse. Time to go.
Love the music you used!
Hey Rockford, keep our history alive!

Hey thanks for watching Marcel. Have yourself a very nice day.
Did they show actual movies at Coronado? I'm not from here, so I don't know much about.
